There's always room for improvement, especially when it comes to football boots. If a new model gets released, we expect it to be better than it was before. In this particular instance, Adidas gave us exactly that, but somehow lots of people are really upset! Why?
In today's video we take a closer look at the new Adidas Predator Freak+, the flagship laceless version of the Pred which undeniably looks very similar to the Predator 20+ it replaces, but also makes some really nice improvements. I discuss what's new, what's the same, and whether or not there's good reason to be unhappy with the latest offering from Adidas. What do you think of the Predator Freak?

i just got a pair of the new freak+ TF and the ball grip is insane, better than anything ive had.. the laceless thing at some point let my feet a little bit loose inside when doing sharp direction changes.. shooting or passing with this one is next level
When the Adidas Predator 18+ and 19+ came out, I was so stoked and right away I fell in love with them. The material was soft and it felt great when I wore them. I also liked the height of the ankle primeknit on those models compared to the Mutator and Freak. However, I did gave the Mutator a chance but it just didn’t cut it for me. I wasn’t very impressed with the material and around the midfoot area it was very uncomfortable for me.

Just got the 19+ second hand on eBay, near mint condition. They lock my foot in incredibly and are the most comfortable boots I’ve worn to date fitting my wide foot very well. I decided on the older model because I just don’t like how the edge, mutator or freaks looked as well as them sounding uncomfortable as hell.
The amount of ankle support is unreal, i think that not even a bullet could penetrate that collar!
Don’t be surprised when the military starts to give every soldier bulletproof Predator freak’s to wear

I agree on the improvement. I find when a boot silo experiences complete revamp and makeovers from model to model a representation of "lack of direction" from the brand. But the Predator Freak+ update from the Predator 20+ sticks to what was working. So to completely redo the Freak+ would be counter productive.
The weak points of the 20+ included, for me, lock down around the ankle, ease of getting the boot on, grip being on a larger surface area of the boot... These have all been addressed. All the while adding some cool aesthetic touches (stripes on the medial side, PREDATOR brand on the tongue). I enjoy the lockdown and fit wayyy more in the Freak than the 20. Much more snug around the top of the ankle region. This alone has taken the Predator from being a kick around boot, to a near gameday boot for me. The lockdown was improved that much for me. The grip being dispersed to a larger area is also an improvement I didn't know was needed. But it is a welcomed change.
Now I'm just waiting for the traditional Black/Red/White colorway 👀

I will say however that getting these boots on is a bit difficult with my Pure Grip socks though ;)
but that is to be expected of any grip socks.

With a takedown model review a quick review of the turf ones would be awesome
For me adidas and all manufacturers could have just kept the old designs for longer as I don’t buy new boots because they released a new design I by them because my old boots are worn out and I really would simply like a new pair of the same design. The 1990s predators made with leather with the predator elements sown in were durable effective and a great boot. ( if they were good enough for Becks and Zizou they are good enough to keep making forever) so the fact that they didn’t change the design much after only one year is no problem to me if the design is good don’t change it. BUT..... the truth is these are NOT durable infact none of the mesh textile uppers have been read the reviews from actual customers on adidas’s web site these thing fall apart way faster then the old K-leather upper boots and the older boots in general. And they cost a paycheck for most young buyers who don’t have high paying jobs yet. (And the knock down models are even less durable)

It is no surprise they don't bring new changes often, just like the Copa series in 18, 19, 20 arguably.

Hai josh... i'm wearing copa 17.1 with size 7uk.. if i'm about to buy freak+, do i need to up size 0.5 which mean 7.5uk?
Surely it is a matter of time until Adidas release a TRUE Predator, with a leather upper. At this point I'll settle for a leather forefoot with rubber striking elements, but I don't understand why they wouldn't just release two models - a leather variant to go with the synthetic/knit or whatever you want to call it.
I'd be amazed if they didn't sell well.

I think another reason a lot of people might not like this version is that the “demon spikes” have quite serious durability issues (especially for single pair owners) not just single spikes falling off, but sometimes even peeling back entirely, damaging the upper and busting an entire hole through them🤦🏻♂️ so to see something so similar makes one wonder if the same issues will be present or if they’ve done anything to improve it’s durability 🤷🏻♂️
Does anyone know if the number of predator freak is the same with the old one?
The narrowest midfoot boot I've ever put on, it's not consistent with the rest of the boot at all and just makes it horribly uncomfortable. Subjectively of course.
the only thing i dislike is the colorway... they should bring these out in colorways with a lot of white or silver with little black and red . i mean imagine beckham's precisions colorway on this boot.

I think some of the consumers should know that adidas are more or less going with their own two year product lifecycle and where changes won’t be drastic looks wise or upper but with subtle changes. Won’t be until 2022 where I Do think there will be a drastic change for example look the x18 X19 which the X19 was more of the same boot with slight changes to the upper

I don't think that it's so much a matter of better or worse, they're just two very different football boots. Which one would be better for you would all depend on your preferences when it comes to fit and feel.

How long do the spikes last? When using them prolly like 1-2 times a week? I’m just curious so that I know if their high price is worth the risk
I have the 20.1. got them around March or so of last year. I think I have lost a couple of spikes. That being said, I believe the 20+ and Freaks have softer spikes, so they could break down quicker
My son has had them for several weeks, practicing with his team 3 days a week, and hasn’t even had one chip yet. Games start soon, so that could change, but so far so good.

I wear the 20s on a ag pitch and even though some of the spikes have fallen off, most of them are still perfect. And I’ve been using them for half a year already
