If I'm not mistaken, the T-Rex has much less latency than the Ratel 2... It's something like 6ms to 25ms... But I can be wrong! So... Maybe it explains it?
I wasn't that impressed with the Ratel until I got OLED goggles. You do have to play around with the settings but I can't get an eagle, phoenix, racer, falkor or predator anywhere near the quality of image from the V2. Given its low price it's a winner for any of us dinosaurs still flying analog.
Doe the ratel 2 crop the image for 16:9 or 4:3? Meaning what is it's native, 4:3 or 16:9. It's the same board as the ratel 1 which crops the 4:3 to get 16:9 so I assume its the same for the v2. I wish there were more native 16:9's that were good. The t rex is native 16:9.
There is a big difference in price between these cameras. I think the Caddx camera has had some firmware improvements since this video was made. The Ratel 2 has also had a lens upgrade. The same can be said for the T-Rex so a repeat test would be interesting.
I do feel kinda bad running the cameras at defaults so much of the time - I know there are better settings to be found, but practically stock works well enough.
I think what you’re calling “washed out” and “over exposed” on the T Rex largely is just its higher dynamic range. I do think the T Rex is a bit higher in the exposure in some shots than I’d prefer, but if you look at the frames where the sun is visible in both, you can see how much more blown out the sun is on the Ratel. So while the T. rex could probably come down a bit, it’s actually maintaining much more detail in the highlights than the Ratel. And even a bit more detail in the shadows too. Video was very helpful though. So take your 👍 😉
Great testing and comparison, dude! 😃 The Ratel 2 would be comparable to the Toothless 2 from Foxeer and Phoenix 2 from RunCam. I bet they use the same sensor! The bigger advantage of the T-Rex is the lower latency. It would be a fantastic camera for racing! But for freestyle... You can't go wrong with any of them. 😊 Happy new year, dude! And stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
6ms T-Rex latency, 8ms for Ratel 2. I'm not so sure that it gonna make so much difference. FPV cam getting better and better, can they be even better than this? Cheers :)
Thanks viper, I am running a ratel v1 with hdo2 and rapidfire and for some reason on rapidfire 1 I am getting a blurring/ pixeling effect when flying that goes in and out and messes with my eyes when flying. On RF 2 I get excellent image during flying but my range is much less seams like it's less resolution than RF 1 any reason why the ratel is having trouble on rf 1 thanks man
It records the video better then the static image in your goggles? Not sure what the issue is. I’m not using DVR from goggles this is recorded from Runcam dvr recorders
Completely agree with you. DVR analog to digital conversion is far from perfect, it is enough to compare google video feed versus DVR record to prove that.
@@ViperFPV I mean that the resolution of both cameras are compromised to the quality of the DVR (since both cameras look better than what a dvr can capture). From what some pilots say, the 1500tvl of the T-rex is noticeable over the 1200tvl of the Ratel.

Nice review. But when putting your hand in front of the cameras it is obvious that T-Rex recovers faster even without slowing down the video.

T-rex is almost twice the price ,so yes... I bought the ratel. Great camera
Really? Dang ratel murders it

The t Rex showed a more natural blue sky,but image in finer details not good, thanks for the comparison.
I like the Ratel over the two cameras.

Don’t feel bad I polled it awhile back about 80% leave it stock.

What would be your choice out of any analog cam for fixed wing in 2023

@@Wrublos212 Absolutely, dude! Better than that only if we go digital. 😊
@@Wrublos212 ratel 2 appears to have 25 to 40ms :(
@@guarf according to some test results? Wish to see, I bought Ratel 2 :D
Who needs digital when you can have Caddx Ratel 2
Yeppers 🤝
Phoenix 2 looks even better
Ratel 2..amazing budget cam..
If you compare the tree branches, you see that the T-Rex is waaay beyond the Ratel 2 in terms of resolution. The 1500TVL really show there.

Have u made sure that both your betaflight settings for Pal or ntsc is matching what the camera is set to. Setting it to auto can do this.
I will definitely check that out thanks very much
try the calibration of the rapidfire and ratel 👍
I was getting this camera freeze with the v1 using rapid fire. Does the v2 have any issues with rapid fire?
Have you tried changing betaflight from auto to PAL/NTSC?
@@ViperFPV yes I was on NTSC on cam setting and Bf.
I also had the same issue with the baby rattel v1 ,I love both cameras but I could not use them with rapidfire.
is it me or is there an enormous fish eye effect on the ratel?
Yes...agreed.
the ratel 2 feels very fish bowly in the middle during fast movement too eh
to much fisheye effect on the ratel 2
It covers a wider area.
T-Rex FTW
Caddx Ratel 2 good like.
Ratel 2 loose the low to high light transition...(used the slowmo tool of youtube) ;)
Ooooo that’s a good idea!
Ratel 2 has over sharpening and a lot of chromatic aberrations… in my eyes the foxeer has a much more pleasant rendering
Ratel 2!
sorry but comparing resolution from a DVR doesn't seem like the best idea

well, I have tested ratel 1 vs trex and TVL difference isnt noticeable at all.
Chromaric aberration is worse in the Ratel2
Ratel2 is oversaturated and oversharpened
first
trex better
