You seem to lament that Jessica Jones doesn't get much spotlight anymore, but to be honest, I can understand why her character would choose to avoid the limelight. The whole genius of Alias was that she walked away from being a super hero to make time for herself, and similarly, now, she chooses motherhood over outright crime-fighting. She still helps from time to time, and she's supportive of luke cage, but her daughter is her first priority. As a reader, I respect that greatly. I guess for me, if she suddenly gets a book of her own or she's suddenly a prominent character again, I'd only dig it if they manage to make it consistent with her "time for myself, and my daughter" characterization over the years.
That's why I'd love to see her in MCU, hoping that she'll become that, it'll humanise them a bit more and frankly with all the desires for strong female characters it would be good to remind people a strong 'empowered' character doesn't have to be someone with great physical strength or "doing a man's job", they can show her as someone whose independance is more realistic, is that she can choose to do what she wanted to do, chose this role of a mother out of the limelight :)
ChannelShoreyo Love this comment. Exactly what I believe. We need more strong, realistic, humanized FEMININE characters portrayed by equally strong & smart real-life women. We don't need more femme fatales and over-sexed actresses.
I like that theory. Not all people with powers want to necessarily go around saving the world. Some might just want to kick back and live a normal life, other might not even be qualified regardless of there powers. All because I own a gun, doesn't mean I have the skill to use it. @@california_dude9112 if you look at the original alias comic book you can see just how true to the source she and the show are The comic is more graphic in depicting the cause of Jessica’s trauma so Ritter has to act it out with her eyes
Mantvydas Maniuska It is! They weren't sure if it was going to be, but Bendis' popularity pretty much cemented it in 616 with books like Pulse and New Avengers.
I think you mean the writers went dark in their writing of Jessica Jones. And Kristen Ritter portrays the dark writing quite well since she's a good actress.
Krysten Ritter is an exceptional actress and if Marvel tell the dark part of Jessica Jones' story I think she could pull it off. She did a great job when she played a struggling addict in Breaking Bad. So I think she could pull it off. She was also daring on the first episode of the b in apartment... So I see promising reviews. Marvel is doing really well with the Netflix shows.
I very much appreciate the overall template and delivery of information in your videos. The production is just very cool. Simple in a way that is not pretentious, but hits it all right in the mark. I knew very little about J. Jones, but your summary has made her a very compelling character for me. I'm looking forward to watching the Netflix series. Thank you and again, very nice work.
+Obi Wonderful Shipoopi maybe the laundromat machine robbed his quarter and he couldn't wash his extra pair of leotards so he got pissed off? he is kind of a douchebag that way.
Purple Man sounds like a disturbing character. A villain like that could literally control anything. Did anything happen to him (like was he killed or did he go on to be a major villain) or is he just faded out?
strikerdemon 56788 Yeah Purpleman commanded _Ant-Man_ to desire him sexually but fortunately didn't do anything to _Ant-Man_ And Purpleman possibly did do things with _ the Swordsman_ The lesson is do not lose to the Purpleman. If you lose to the Purpleman, you could be in for a really bad time.
I'm really looking forward to what the Jessica Jones series brings. Daredevil was amazing, I think Krysten Ritter defiantly looks the part, but I'm most excited to see David Tennant as the Purple Man.
+achsdu17 Years ago i may have given the show a chance, but feminism has made me not want to watch any media with a female protagonist. It's gets old with the constant male bashing.
+weiberfeind I hope you haven't shyed away from this show because it's absolutely awesome! So dark and gritty and despite the whole fear of yours(I feel ya) not once do they make you forced to hear the male bashing lines or "I'm a girl" nonsense.
Actually, Jessica Jones did not form Alias until her time as Knightress, which is pretty important to her backstory. Basically, she became more of a gritty street level crimefighter and eventually meets Luke Cage for the first time. When they break up a crime ring together, Jessica finds out that one of the criminals had brought his daughter with him and she gives up her secret identity to stay with the girl until they can find some one for her to live with instead of being put into the system like she was. That's how her secret identity as Jewel and Knightress has become public knowledge (J. Jonah Jameson mentions it when he interviews her for a job during the Alias series).
i can only speak for myself but i very much enjoyed the netflix series and i had never heard of her prior to that point, but im now quite interested to see what they do with her in both the comics and the netflix series

*sigh* at the anti-fem comments. I guess this is what they meant when they said Marvel writes women better than DC ^_^ Jessica is so interesting! Thank you for this informative video! As for the sexual-abuse concerns, what Marvel can do is approach it respectfully and have the viewer feel awful about it from the victim's perspective rather than the audience (I applaud Bioshock Infinite DLC for that), have the heroine deal with the abuse (instead of being saved by the male hero like we commonly see in video games, cause that's not how sexual assault works)- instead of showing it as arousing/sensual (This is to answer those who are worried that the audience will get upset by the Alias back-story).
Yes, but isn't there a way to write women without dissing men all the time? That's what annoys me at least. Women are just as sexist as men. If not more, because it is PC for them to be sexists, while men have to hide it more. What this does though is make feminists total hypocrites. Evidently you absolutely love sexism, just so long as it is of the right kind. yet you keep whining about sexism. And this is the problem with identity "politics". It's a dead end because it is impossible to keep track of. If the world was really, truly rid of both sexism and racism, and not just male sexism and white racism, which is the only thing people who are into this BS care about, then no one could say anything for fear of offending someone. So it's both stupid, a distraction, unintelligent and pointless at the same time. And aggressively sexist shows like this one do not help.
I Think this was the best explaination of a character ever!! I think Kirsten Ritter will be good, I mean she was in Breaking Bad ya know. this seems really cool, i'm glad they're doing an adaptation of it. i love they way they explained how being brain controlled felt, it felt a lot more real and frightening than the whole "the person is totally aware and against everything that is happening but just can't control what their body is being forced to do". i hope they come up with a good consistent story line for her.

Wait, I still don't understand how she got superpowers. She got into a car accident, shouldn't she have car related powers? Maybe she should be a Transformer.
totally cool to watch this after I watched the series on Netflix. So dark and gritty. I was somewhat aware of Alias but never ventured into the MAX line up. Glad to know that they stayed true to the original source material (as F'd up as it was!) in true Marvel cinematic fashion. They even used the same visual styles that the artists used in Alias.
If Jessica Jones has series of flashbacks of her in high school for the TV Show, then Marvel should bring Tom Holland along to play Peter Parker. They both live in New York

Just found this after hearing about the Netflix show. I grew up on Marvel but didn't know Jessica Jones' story - and after your video, I feel like I've just heard the up and downs of someone's life in a bar. Great research and compilation...
Jessica Jones S1 > Daredevil S1 DD S2 > JJ S2. I really feel that what made season one of JJ so amazing was David Tennent as Kilgrave. S2 felt a lot weaker than S1 for this reason and the very up and down story. Daredevil S2 was better than 1 because of the Elektra love interest, which I felt was very well done. It actually felt real and not at all forced - as far as the superhero genre goes that is. It added a lot of depth to Matt Murdock's character. And the Punisher side plot was excellent. It set up very well for the Punisher's own series. (Which I feel right now is by far the best Marvel Netflix show going now).
The Punisher series might be the best Marvel Netflix show but I prefer Enter The Badlands on AMC. The martial arts fighting is very good, the story and characters interesting.
Thankfully, we are going to get a sequel series to Alias after Civil War 2 later this year. Brian Michael Bendis has "unofficially" confirmed his and Michael Gaydos' involvement. And even if that wasn't happening, thankfully Alias still has like four more story arcs that could be adapted for the show.
Thanks for posting this. Hasn't Netflix annouced that the villian is Kilgrave (Purple man)? Does that not mess with the timeline that Marvel has established? After Purple Man and being attacked by the Avengers according to this, she is "cleansed" mentally by X-men Grey and becomes a detective and no longer a superhero. The Netflix show (which was passed on by ABC by the way just like Daredevil) has her dealing with Kilgrave as a detective. I guess that the show is future stories based off of her past background - and she is back with Luke Cage? Is the child gone then? Or is this just a new version of AKA Jessica Jones that pick up pieces and makes an all new story that has less to do with the past and more to do with the future? I guess we find out more in late November.
It would be great if you could do all the characters from the new Netflix series coming out as mentioned earlier in the comments. Also, will you be doing the Inhumans? I find them to be an interesting story to tell as well. Thank you and I love the show.
Wouldn't it be just GRAND if that Alias arc played out on the last few epiosodes of the TV show? Purple Man worked for Fisk somehow. Fisk orders him to kill Daredevil. He goes to the only quasi-powered being he knows, Jessica, and controls her mind again. Sends her to Starks avengers tower to kill Daredevil, but runs into Scarlet Witch, defeated by Vision and Tony. Man...that'd be some cameo goodness. Heck, the one in red can be Ant-Man....reuniting her with Scott Lang. Another Tie-In.
I am asking some female readers I know how do they make this a show even on Netflix and they said they will get back to me. I just don't know man I thought the Ms Marvel was messed up but that wasn't close to this
This is my exact reaction to a lot of Rob's videos lol. He's so great at the in depth analysis of these characters that I learn a lot more about events and the people involved in them
I really hope the actress portraying her in the Netflix series is passionate about J. Jones and her story and is wiling to do the nitty gritty parts of this Marvel character as well as the writers. Its an intense story but it would be boring if they focused more on the Pulse storyline. Bringing the Alias comics to life would be awesome. (Never read the comics, but thanks to this channel i have learned so much about Marvel characters and i am so excited for everything to come)
Thanks this video was really interesting and insightful! I hope the Netflix series dies go with the more gritty stories from alias. I'm surprised that Jessica Jones hasn't gotten more of a push in marvel comics at the moment since she is getting a Netflix series, as most characters marvel are adapting have their own series. Have you done an Elektra video? Cuz that would be really cool! I think a really violent Elektra Netflix series would be AWESOME.
GREAT PRESENTATION AND WELL EXPLAINED. I HOPE THAT WE DO GET TO SEE THE SCARLET WITCH AND THE PHOENIX. THANK YOU AND ALL BEST IN JESSICA'S JONES'S WORLD. THERE IS A STORY ARC THAT COULD BE USED WITH MS. MARVEL AND JESSICA JONES. REMEMBER, ROGUE PLACED MS. MARVEL IN A COMA AS WELL.
I think that the assessment that Jessica Jones has "Fallen Behind" is a bit in error. This is a story of a battered person rebuilding a sense of self and finding an internal compass. The person happens to be female and happens to make the choices that do not allow for the demonstration of superpowers as we are accustom to. Marvel has not let her "Fall Behind" Jessica has had an important role in defining the effects of the Marvel Universe on a family unit.
This is off topic: why is youtube going insane? I cant rewind or fast forward the video, it's stuck at 0:00 On topic: this video is very informative, I remember seeing JJ a lot when I read spiderman and of course civil war I used to be able to sneak a peak at some of the explicit content marvel comics but I never got a chance to own any of them, aside from the punisher. I loved daredevil and Luke Cage so Jessica Jones became a must have.
If Jessica Jones is successful on Netflix, that should be a sign for Marvel to start creating her own series again. Because why make a kick ass show that people love and a character they want to read about with only two series, but only one is great? I love Marvel as you can tell, but COME ON! Show some love!
I don't think jean put galactus as a defence in jessicas mind, i think it was already there. It doesn't appear until jessica realizes that jean is there, and then dissapears once jessica agrees to let jean help her.
Honestly I feel like them casting her as Jessica Jones is a pretty big indication they will stick with the really dark aspects. She has played those kinds of characters before and there is certainly no other reason I can think of that they would pick her.
Ernesto Tamayo PBS television had a children's show called the _Electric Company_ which had a version of Spiderman. I suspect the PBS Scorpion somehow wandered into the adult section. Meanwhile mean Scorpion attacked and kill _Big Bird_ on Sesame Street. LOL
hi Rob, few question regarding this character i have never heard of lol Whats her super hero name? How does she develop her powers? u mentioned that her powers just developed as a teen a guess, but that makes her sound like a mutant, and I'm assuming she's not because she wasn't introduced as one lol why does her costume change her appearance? love watching ur videos, good job ^__^
Going into this video not knowing who Jessica Jones is, I thought her main power was going to be a Jean Grey level of psychic abilities but only while she's in a coma/asleep. Which would make her like a psychic counterpart to the Hulk: they gain greater power the longer they stay in a certain physical state but at the same time it gets harder for them to go back to being a normal human each time they use their abilities.

Jessica Jones is an underrated character. Hope you do Cage and Fist next as they are some of my favorites.
The musics you guys use make my brain melt...
The rest is amazing!
Great show and fantastic character. I started reading/buying her Blindspot series that just came out at the beginning of 2020
Dude, you are the best. Thanks for explaining stuff. Great work!!
Wow, what an interestingly tragic story. Thanks, love your videos
Jessica Jones turned out to be a great Netflix show. I thought it was better than Dare Devil, certain better than DD season 1.
fartzinwind for you, for me daredevil was way better.
fartzinwind I don't think so
Jessica Jones S1 > Daredevil S1
DD S2 > JJ S2.
Yeahhhh... nope
Let’s agree to disagree
Loved this video, i totally understand jessica jones now. Thanks alot and ill be back for more.
Thank U So Much!!!!!!!!!!! I luv Cartoons/Anime/Comics/Manga/Animations
Ritter is perfect as Jessica Jones.
Nice job. I'm a new subscriber!
This is the most organised and detailed info on JJ
Scorpion robbing a laundry mat? Holy crap, he must be in trouble LOL.
They even call him out on it in the story. No one has anything besides pocket change on them, and he gets pissed lol
Thanks for the Info. I love your stuff.
Great video!! I'm hoping the netflix series will gain her some popularity and get her back into comics.
Your intro is awesome!
I really enjoyed this one keep em coming!!
You read my mind Rob, I needed this video right now
it´s kind of scary after watching daredevil what they can do with JJ, specially knowing that purple will be there... wow
I like the music on your channel
I thought I knew alittle about her I didn't know shit about her I mean nothing. you know I was just wrong totally
I feel the same way totally.
I am asking some female readers I know how do they make this a show even on Netflix and they said they will get back to me. I just don't know man I thought the Ms Marvel was messed up but that wasn't close to this
This is my exact reaction to a lot of Rob's videos lol. He's so great at the in depth analysis of these characters that I learn a lot more about events and the people involved in them
great video thanks for the explanation. looking forward to the show.
Do a Luke Cage explained video!
+metalweasel1546 I agree!!!
No
member berries he did
Saw the show, read the "Alias" series hopefully you do Iron Fist next for a good explanation.
Thx for the video.
I had no Knowledge of Jessica Jones.
(Never read the comics, but thanks to this channel i have learned so much about Marvel characters and i am so excited for everything to come)
would be cool if ya did a video about Daisy Johnson and her father Calvin Zabo/My Hayde, following the reveal on Agents of SHIELD
*Great review !!*
Shout out to my boy Luke Cage dropping off the black snake for her every once in a while.
YourAnus MyPee there going to be a lot of porn parodies of this series when AKA Jessica Jones drops on netflix.. I can see it now #fapping
How about polaris?
That is the most convoluted origin and update on a character ever created.
Love ur intro music!
Thank you for the back story.
thanks for this!!! great stuff
Daredevil got me even more hyped to see this character live action on Netflix
This is off topic: why is youtube going insane? I cant rewind or fast forward the video, it's stuck at 0:00
On topic: this video is very informative, I remember seeing JJ a lot when I read spiderman and of course civil war I used to be able to sneak a peak at some of the explicit content marvel comics but I never got a chance to own any of them, aside from the punisher. I loved daredevil and Luke Cage so Jessica Jones became a must have.
Thank you for making this!!! I've always been curious about Jessica Jones' origin story. I don't have Netflix, so I can't watch the show.
Who robs a laundromat ?
Comic book bad guys.
It's Thanos and Ultron's specialty.
Ernesto Tamayo Laundry Detergent Squad saves the day
Ernesto Tamayo
PBS television had a children's show called the _Electric Company_ which had a version of Spiderman.
I suspect the PBS Scorpion somehow wandered into the adult section.
Meanwhile mean Scorpion attacked and kill _Big Bird_ on Sesame Street. LOL
hi Rob,
few question regarding this character i have never heard of lol
Whats her super hero name?
How does she develop her powers? u mentioned that her powers just developed as a teen a guess, but that makes her sound like a mutant, and I'm assuming she's not because she wasn't introduced as one lol
why does her costume change her appearance?
love watching ur videos, good job ^__^
These old videos are hella dope
I like Jessica's outfit. But damn, she had an awful life. Never imagined a summary video would make me feel bad for a fictional character
Hi. Where have your dead pool videos gone. I was looking for them?
Fascinating video.
What would I do without UA-cam?
This is a really helpful video never heard of the character until I saw the netflix trailer. Whats the song at the intro called?
Going into this video not knowing who Jessica Jones is, I thought her main power was going to be a Jean Grey level of psychic abilities but only while she's in a coma/asleep. Which would make her like a psychic counterpart to the Hulk: they gain greater power the longer they stay in a certain physical state but at the same time it gets harder for them to go back to being a normal human each time they use their abilities.
I now love this character, and her adult interactions with the Marvel Universe.
