That dual rail humbucker sounds good! I built a similar guitar and used a single coil pickup. I think it would sound better with a humbucker like yours. I'm gonna order one soon!👍😎🎸🎶

Hello, I am from Chile. What effects pedal do you recommend for a lapsteel..please.

I feel Lap Steel really likes reverb. I would get a nice one that also has a little bit of delay. I bought a Behringer DR600 because it was cheap. It's ok. I still use it. I also use an EB-VP volume pedal, but it takes some practice. Those are the main ones I use. When I listen to Larkin-Poe, they sometimes use overdirve and distortion. Personally I like a traditional Tube Screamer style of overdrive.

Hi, I see a few knock-offs on Amazon that look identical to the Rogue and SX. One in particular is called a Batking. Any thoughts? Will be my first lapsteel. Thanks.

i don't know anything about that maker, but the description looks sketchy to me. Guitar is misspelled, they call it a pedal steel in the description, the wood is poplar, which is not a hardwood. I'd pass just based on attention to details. But boy, prices sure have popped on lap steel guitars, recently. Prepandemic the Rogue RLS-1 could be found for around $100.

I need some strings for my Rogue Steel Guitar I ordered today. I wonder will I be better in C6th Tuning or another tuning. I play guitar and slide acoustic in open G. Thank you very much.

Hi James - I have stuck with C6, which I feel is the soul of this instrument. But you can really use anything you like, anything you're comfortable with. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is do you enjoy playing it and does that make you keep wanting to play and practice on it? I've thought about dobro tuning, but that's why I have a dobro.

    triads inversions are named 1st and 2nd, not 1st, 3rd, and 5th.

      drmojo99 is right.
Dan's teaching people incorrect terms and that's going to badly confuse them down the road. I can see the internal logic of Dan's personal naming system but that's not what they are called.
In Lesson 3 he is playing the wrong chords and misnaming them. This is a dangerous series and why UA-cam can be as harmful as it is helpful sometimes.

I came down to the comments section to say the same exact thing but it looks like you beat me to it 3 years ago!

Your lapsteel guitar looks similar to my Lapsteel Guitar 2hich is called a Artisan, what is your brand?

Mine is a Rogue. They make fairly decent entry level stuff, and are the store brand for musician's friend. The key difference, as far as I can tell, is where the output jack is placed. It looks like the Artisan might have a nicer finish. At this price range there's not a lot to differentiate them.

Well Bonjour Howdy! The absolute best book I've found for learning the techniques is Andy Volk's Exploring C6th Lap Steel. Other than that I do not have any recommendations. Check out The Steel Guitar forums, where they have some recommendations - bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewforum.php?f=8
