Disable Touchscreen on Chromebooks

Short tutorial on how to run the keyboard command to disable a touchscreen on a device running chrome OS.
1. Open your chrome internet browser
2. Type this into your url bar exactly as shown
chrome://flags/#ash-debug-shortcuts
3. Locate "Debug Keyboard Shortcuts" and click enable
this should be the very first option you see.
4. Select Restart in the bottom right.
5. After logging in hit this key pattern. Hold the keys down in sequential order.
search button + shift button + t

thank you for this! I was having a problem with my screen zooming in and clicking non stop all of a sudden. Then you said at the beginning it could happen if the back of the screen has had some heavy pressure on it.. now it totally makes sense as I have 5 cats and at some point while i was sleeping, they might have been lying on my laptop geez ... thank you so much for this tutorial!

Many thanks. Lenovo 300e was creating its own random "screen touching" events in the lower 1 inch of the screen. So it was launching apps like crazy. I had to rotate it to tablet mode just to function and keep apps in the click-free zone.

depending on the model, consider replacing the touchscreen unit. It's very easy to do.

I can't find anything about replacing a touchscreen unit on the web. I only find info on replacing the entire screen. What do I search for? Thank you!

@@michellec3452 more than likely there was too much pressure applied to the back casing of the screen. This is what most ghost touches are a result from. Usually you can find the area by looking for ripples in the screen. like its being pressed hard.
You can easily replace a touchscreen with parts from chromebookparts.com and a basic iFixit tool kit.
Although in some cases its cheaper just to buy a refurb model than the touchscreen itself.

@@michellec3452 also the touchscreen and lcd panel are usually one unit combined. Unlike the old days of just a digitizer laid over a lcd panel.

THANK YOU this was helpful, I had a crack on my screen!! Unbeknownst to me, a crumble of my wall fell into the part where the laptop folds, I closed it, and it crushed the material, creating a crack on the screen. T.T I had to juggle handling the random Zoom window and various other things popping up (because the touch screen was thinking I was pressing on the app located on my dock) and doing this. Thank you so much! Works! But the re-enable is the same key combination as the disable, i.e., Search + Shift + P. So do the combination twice and you're back to where you started. I'm using an ASUS.
