I've had this game on ps2 for going on 20 years now. Still plays perfectly and always shoots me back in time whenever I pop it in. I love this game despite how simple it is, and I'd say it is worth buying a copy of even today.
Same. I’ve owned it since it came out and played it both on my ps2 and at the arcade as a kid, and I still play it every now and then. Just played it today, that’s why I’m watching this. Boy is the game hard though. It’s pure luck to win. You could get knocked off your sled right before the finish line and lose.
Finally picked this game up a week ago after remembering the name of it a month ago. I grew up playing this game in the early to mid 2000s in chuck e cheeses. This was one of my go to games when I went there
Always love your videos!
Thank you.
Oh man, I used to play the entire game every time I went to Chuck E. Cheeses when I was little. This and Smashing Drive were my favorite games there.
Same with me, only both this and Smashing Drive were at the old Sony Metreon in downtown San Francisco.
Why have I only just found this channel now! May you be blessed by the almighty algorithm!
I miss these late 90’s / early 00’s arcade titles with all their colour, chunky graphics and thumping soundtracks.
I have to admit I contributed to the genres downfall. By 2002, two hour long arcade titles just didn’t cut it anymore, I remember wanting more story driven games and engaging campaigns.
You don’t know what you miss until it’s gone!
I miss arcade racers n general. There isn't enough of them full stop.
If you want a game with lots of colour and thumping soundtracks give Grip Combat Racing a try, it’s a spiritual successor to Roll Cage/Firebugs, tons of fun and very underrated
@@sidbrun_ Yeah that’s a fun game though I don’t think I can agree on it being colourful, I thought it looked quite bland?
Don’t know if it’s just me or I’m not good enough but I got about 2/3 of the way through before quitting because the tracks get more complex and your car gets faster, so I found it difficult to know where to go whilst driving 600mph.
@@InputArchive The Xbox version has messy textures than the Arcade/PlayStation 2 version.
I remember this game in a Cici's Pizza arcade. It was fun.
I remember it being in a Mountain Mike`s once.
Thanks for bringing to my attention, definitely gonna hunt down a copy to add on my collection👍
This game is so nostalgic for me. I always played it in the local arcade as a kid, so when the xbox was released, I was thrilled to be able to play it in my home. Spent so much time with family and friends playing this game! It's really simple, at the time it was a hit.
Hey, just found your show. Quality content. This is the type of stuff I love. Thank you
Thank you.
this was really fun i loved this game back on xbox.
A solid profile on the game, I love it for what it is & am proud to have it in my vast Xbox library!
It's a nice addition to the collection.
I enjoyed this at my local Chuck E. Cheese back in the day. Wasn't any good at it, but it was still dumb fun for my eight year old self.
Thanks for this video a game of my childhood an i loved it !
Thanks for watching.
Please continue on the Retro Reviews. Love your presentation and professionalism. Keep up the good work.
Thank you
I remember the arcade game, it was a fun arcade and If I remember it correctly the seats vibrate.
Unfortunately I never got to try the arcade game.
You`re correct, they do vibrate. How could anyone whose played this game NOT remember that?
The game was released for the PS2 just six days after the 9/11 attacks. The fonts used in this game were Futura and a modified version of FF Meta.
Great Review Bro, this videos are great to update the collection
Glad you enjoyed the video.
I like snow mobiles and Hydro Thunder is my favorite racing -game of all time, so I probably need to buy this
I’ll never forget this game. In the arcade, u sat on a snow mobile and it shifted left to right as u turned and it literally blew wind in ur face. It left a lasting impression on me. But now looking at it again in ur review, it does look pretty mediocre. Maybe if I buy it and play it with a fan blowing right on me, it will take me back to my childhood.🤣🤣 Good review!!👍🏽
Sounds like an awesome arcade game.
Cheers mate an other great vid/Review :-) Did you do the The Digital Cowboys podcast?
Thanks for the support.
Also, no I'm not familiar with that podcast.
Man, I relate to this. I bought it randomly during one of my many C.E.X visits, and finally tried it out for the first time yesterday. For a game that seems so basic, I find it surprisingly fun to just kick back and play with for 45 minutes or so. The crazy speed and inability to go careering off the map makes it quite invigorating, if unrealistic.
I've always had strong nostalgia for Arctic Thunder. I'd always play it every time I found it in an arcade, and I rented the PS2 version back in the day as well. Didn't own it until several years later for the PS2, and later I picked up the Xbox version. While the gameplay isn't that substantive, I've always still had fun with it.
I think i would've loved it in the arcade.
@@RetroGameRater You definitely would have. The arcade version even had a jet that would blow hot or cold air on the player depending on the track.
@@coffeelover239 the seats would also rumble I think
hey man new sub here been loving the channel I was wondering if you could do a review of Front Mission 4 i really love that game and its series and i think it would be a good review for the channel, thanks man.
For as much as I loved this game at Chuck E Cheese as a youngster - and I loved it to bits - it's definitely one of those games that's meant to be played once or twice at a time. That being said, if I ever find a cheap copy somewhere, I might consider picking it up.
Agreed.
I’ve got this in my collection. It’s not one I get out too often since it does look like it could get repetitive fast but it’s enjoyable enough in those short bursts.
I'd say give it a try for about an hour, have fun and then put it away.
Looks like a fun game for a few minutes. Graphically it almost looks like a n64 game
You can definitely tell it was most likely made in 1999.
@@RetroGameRater You`re close. This game actually came out in 2000.
Hey, I had fun with this game.
I don`t know anyone who didn`t. :)
My thoughts? Just wondering why Europe would choose 50hz as a TV standard.
It reminds me of a low budget Extreme G (N64). Better yet, it reminds me of a PS One game that had you jet ski on both land and water. I can’t remember the game’s name - but it reminds me of that. It does look like you would have fun game with this for a while. But then, it’ll get boring. I wonder if this game was full price back in the day... 🤔
Another great review!
I really hope it wasn't sold at full price.
This game needs to be backwards compatible on Xbox
Have you ever tried the Godfather videogame? Try it out it's like Grand Theft Auto in the 1940s.
I've not played it yet, but it's on my list.
If it's fun I find that a good enough reason to buy it
Think I’ll get ahold of a copy but seems like there are only 5 in stock in the whole of Cex! Has a very EA Big style to it, a bit like Sled Storm
That's surprising, I thought there were. Plies of this everywhere.
Looks fun but a bit short on substance!
Yup, you hit the nail on the head.
Can you make review of Dinasty warior gundam 2 for PS2 🙂
This is a game I see a lot at retro game stores, and I almost bought it until I found out the copy at the one I tried to get it from didn’t have an instruction manual (which is one of my pet peeves of gaming). After watching this, I think it was a blessing in hindsight because with such shallow (not being able to go off course is trying to be fun to a fault, in my opinion) gameplay and a lack of features, I know I would’ve gotten bored of this very quickly. OutRun 2 on Xbox and its sequel Coast 2 Coast have far superior gameplay, have tons of additional content besides arcade mode, and retain the game’s beautiful graphics, and given that I played both before Arctic Thunder I wouldn’t have been impressed with this port one bit.
Yep, you didn't miss out on much by not picking this up.
Cool video
Thanks
currently i still collecting more good games so i didn't get into the bad ones. to me this game looks worse than any ps1 and most likely ps2 games except i hate all ps2 James bond games. maybe not the last one quantum of solace , have not played it
It doesn't look the greatest, I'll give you that.
