But after Earl's increasing fits of bad tasteless conduct, fewer and fewer clapped for him and there was a lot of silence as well. Near the end of the game you could tell the whole room was on Efren's side. I feel so sad that Earl behaved and shouted as he did. It was embarrassing.
Thank you so much for posting this. Absolutely amazing match. Long but worth it. Special thanks of course to Mr. Moore and Ridgeway. Truly classy gentlemen, perfect for the sport. Efren is absolutely the GOAT. That 17-game rebound and then victory is what movies are made of. He's also a super likeable human being, so humble and calm. Efren went on to do the same thing to Sigel and then Morris, winning huge paydays. And each time it was clearly meant to be a test to determine who was the best of the best in the world. Congrats to Earl too. Despite his difficult personality his skill is truly out of this world. His struggles seem to be with his inner self and for that we wish him all the best. He has nothing to feel bad about in this epic and truly historic contest.
That's for sure, Earl just gets that attitude he is one of the best shot makers but shouldn't let them little mistakes get to him and come back stronger he has lost sponsors and fans alike to be professional you need to act like one. Congratulations to both players.
It was worth watching Efren’s video over and over again, quite educational to learn his tactics! He was really cool!… humble, descent player, hardly seen him being mad with his opponent. It was nice to play all his videos!😢😊❤🎦
Epic. The quality of play by both players was often off the charts and into genius territory. The heart shown by Efren in his legendary comeback speaks for itself. The classless moves on the part of Strickland speak for themselves as well. Efren said, "I was lucky". Self effacing, modest, with class. Strickland sharked him one time, tried to claim a foul another time, whined, bitched, pissed, moaned and ultimately gave up. It's a shame Earl is plagued by his inner demons. His game is glorious to watch, but watching him, the person, is no fun at all. In fact, it's downright ugly. I think this match sealed the deal on who was the greatest player in the world at the time of the match.
Yeah,it is a real shame that he behaves like that,he could be a great ambassador for the sport but unfortunetaly he is not ambassador material. So sad. Feel for him aswell.
I may be the only one in the world, but I feel sorry for Strickland -- a man with his talent! -- and he has to run into a humble little guy named Reyes who just happens to be FLAT OUT THE GREATEST BILLIARDIST in HISTORY ! That's a tough act to follow.
this guy is a nut case. like one flew over the cooco's nest. he played well but could not accept losing. even after he knew he was defeated. it was all about him. this earl dude could star in an episode of the twighlight zone. do do doo do doo do
@@davebooth7808 Well, I think he's sad because it's embarrassing, plus he lost $100k. He actually could've won the match. He's an amazing player. His skills are shocking. But his temperament is a problem, just like Efren's break is a weakness. BTW, I don't think this was Efren's best level. He's played better other times. It took him a while to settle back into his best level, at the end after the 3 days of play.
This match was a classic example of Tortoise vs. Hare. Earl was zooming through his racks earlier, which gassed him out. Efren just kept a steady pace, and he was definitely the stronger player down the stretch. Efren knew this was a marathon, not a sprint.
@Truth Reigns Forever ive walked into a bar at 8am and shot til they closed. Its exhausting after that long. Thats why the pros practice for 8 plus a day cuz they play that long competetively all the time
I've viewed the entire series at least 3 times. If you want to learn how to play at the upper level, it's ALL in these videos. I want to thank Mr. Moore and Ridgeway for bringing these top players together at great expense, and putting up with Earl Strickland. His play is excellent, while his attitude, to the same extent, is shit. Belated congratulations to Efren. He is the greatest.
I love this, every time I have a bad game, I watched this video, very inspiring, I met and played The Magician,, what a humble champion,,,,#EfrenBataReyes!
Never count Efrene out, If you only 35 games lead ahead of him, I'm so proud to see Efrene smile after the last 9 ball drop in the hole, Well done my Idol
Efren Reyes, what a wonderful personality, smiles even if the going gets tough. You, Efren, deserve all the accolades you have earned in a very long sporting career. I do not remember one 'unsporting' gesture ever from the Philippine model sportsperson. To the contrary, not for the first time, Earl Strickland has shown an unnecessary ill tempered attitude - when Efren stepped up to shake hands Earl barely acknowledged the gesture, a terrible sour face during the well balanced speech at the end. You, Earl should be ashamed of yourself and rather stay away from the green felted table. You may have talent, but your sporting comportment, not just in Hong Kong some 5 years ago, but other occasions as well, leave to be desired.
Very poor sportsmanship from Strickland after that match! All he has done to himself is turning people away from his childish behaviour! Having a long face didn’t do him any favours other than turning the viewing public away from him!
These two are #1 and #2 in history in my opinion. Efren being #1. If Earl was on he beats anyone, problem was he had problems with his emotions. Efren had an ability to stay even no matter the situation. If you doubt Efren is #1 you need only look to Stricklands speech at Efrens retirement, He said "I never thought I would say this, but you are the best pool player Efren"
These two have contrasting styles. One's strength is the other's weakness: 1. Potting - earl 2. Safety - efren 3. Break - earl 4. Kicking - efren They even have contrasting attitudes (humility and arrogance). Yet they are the best ever to play the game!
I love how Efren always tries to take the balls out of the pockets when he finishes a game. You can tell he’s not used to having people clear the pockets.
Maybe at the start of his career he wasn't used to it but it just shows how humble he is even after winning many tournaments he always shows sportsmanship.
He won, he's happy, and he is HOT. He loves it so much he can't wait to get the next game started. After all he's right there, it's faster if he helps. Can't risk losing the hotness !
What a match! For the ages. I wonder how much money he kept for himself at that time. I would imagine his handlers took a substantial cut. But Efren is a humble and generous guy. Most of his winnings were shared with family and friends. I think in one interview, he mentioned this fact and how impoverished thier family was growing up. Legend.
Truly a great pool player...a true legend! One of the greatest--his skills, not 'magic' and his humility at its best. A remarkable man, so professional and always with a smile whether he wins or lose.
Efren is a philanthropist as well as genius pool player. He helps many filipino fan very generously. He doesn't have backers or "handlers" he plays with his own money
So happy for humble Efren Reyes to win. Glad the better billiards player won. Earl Strickland's lack of professionalism, tantrums and poor sportsmanship was an embarrassment.
Have you seen the reyes vs sigel ipt king of the hill match? Sigel looked like the guy that came up to you at the bar and said he was good but is trash
Earl is just a poor overall sport. At the end he basically refused to shake hands with Efren having to track him down and he looks away as he half shakes. I've seen other matches where hes tried to bully or jinx Efren and even cracked his stick down on the table yelling how lucky Efren is. Sad because hes right there with Efren in talent.
It is so satisfying to see someone so polite, humble and self-effacing as Reyes beat the pants off an ignorant jerk like Earl Strickland. Earl didn't even have the courtesy, respect and dignity to look Efren in the eye after he lost. Earl was 17 games ahead, and when he lost that lead, he started behaving like the petulant little brat that he is. Good on you, Efren!
Hegins christianstrong it is when you are 17 games down. That's means he won this segment by 20 games. And if they kept playing Efren would have destroyed him because Earl crybaby Strickland can only play when he is in the lead.
Commentator RE: Strickland (2:42:02): "This man has some problems." Hard to believe this is the same man who put on such a gallant demonstration of sportsmanship and class when he conceded to Efren at the conclusion of the famous "Z-shot" match in the 1995 Sands Regency Open. What happened to this guy?
true, that image of Earl holding up Efren's hand at the end of the 1995 Sands Regency 9ball open (like the referee in the end of a boxing match) will be forever in my mind
Earl has the most RAW talent in the history of the game. Hands down. No question. AND IS an actual Genius. Efren, just happens to play from a magical realm, that only few others have ever been known to touch upon. Once you enter the * Magical Realm *, you realize Efren is not only already there, but he has a castle with a drawbridge, laughing in his throne, while drinking beer from a giant magical chalice/goblet (the precise drinking container has yet to be fully known, identified or revealed).
I believe that the crowd is rooting for Reyes in part because Strickland comes off as a nasty SOB. Strickland does not elicit warm feelings from the crowd with his vituperative verbiage. He lowers the classy nature of the game itself, no matter his skills. Meanwhile, Reyes, the adult in the room, garners warm feelings from most all the spectators. I'm certainly rooting for Reyes, the Magician.
I've played both of these guys. During my match with Strickland he threw several tantrums. I walked away with little respect for the guy who I had once admired. He's a jerk in person during a match. Efren on the other hand is always graceful and humble. I've had the pleasure of witnessing him many times in person. Always even tempered and never blames anyone else and takes wins and losses like a gentleman, unlike Earl.

Probably it's just me, but I think Earl is a sore looser😀
Efren is my all-time fave, but man, I’d love to have Earl’s power draw stroke. I’ve never seen a better, more consistent one!

Efren is such a humble man. I'm certain that he would have gone and congratulated Strickland if he had won.

Screw Earl, he's a big baby, sore loser without any class.

Was nice to see Earl Strickland so magnanimous in defeat
this guy is a nut case. like one flew over the cooco's nest. he played well but could not accept losing. even after he knew he was defeated. it was all about him. this earl dude could star in an episode of the twighlight zone. do do doo do doo do
So good to see a humble champion. Greatest player ever.
Strickland looks like a real Sad Sack because he knows Efren is a much better & cool player who doesn’t let his opponent get to him!
Thats why the pros practice for 8 plus a day cuz they play that long competetively all the time
Cheetah story…
I've viewed the entire series at least 3 times. If you want to learn how to play at the upper level, it's ALL in these videos. I want to thank Mr. Moore and Ridgeway for bringing these top players together at great expense, and putting up with Earl Strickland. His play is excellent, while his attitude, to the same extent, is shit.
Belated congratulations to Efren. He is the greatest.
This 3hour video is the best narration of the GREATNESS of EFREN BATA REYES!
So impress which am not in fund of this game ,but now I like to watch because of Efren Reyes strategy in the pool game. I really enjoy it.
Unfortunately, Our Efren is no longer playing that good because of his age..
@@roblucena3876 He's still playing pretty damn good for a 67 year old man.
That thin cut on the 7 around the 2:45:00 mark, then going 3 rails to end up perfect on the 8 was just a fantastic shot.
Efren is a humble giant and a magical personality!!! The world needs more champions with such lofty stature!!!
And the world needs a villain for the match to make it more etnertaining. Thanks strickland for the match. I was entertained...

That's quite an honor. Congratulations. Most in the world consider him to be the GOAT, me included.

Efren is so humble. He just said he was lucky. Just like that. Unlike his opponent who did not even shake Efren's hand. Oh, well.
Earl when loses always say his opponent is lousy. Efren likes to make fun of it. See the efren busta vs rodney earl. same thing :D

So you know why the promoter sent Earl 80k a week after the match? They had to resort to tactics off the table to win
It's clear most people are amateurs

These two have contrasting styles. One's strength is the other's weakness:
1. Potting - earl
2. Safety - efren
3. Break - earl
4. Kicking - efren
They even have contrasting attitudes (humility and arrogance). Yet they are the best ever to play the game!

I love how Efren always tries to take the balls out of the pockets when he finishes a game. You can tell he’s not used to having people clear the pockets.

Legend.

1:04:23 that is just so wrong from Earl. Walking to the table like that when it’s not his turn, disrupting Efren like that
Earl is just a poor overall sport.
Bruce DeLoatch winning by 3 games in a race to 120 is not 'beating the pants off' somebody.
Hegins christianstrong it is when you are 17 games down. That's means he won this segment by 20 games. And if they kept playing Efren would have destroyed him because Earl crybaby Strickland can only play when he is in the lead.

Amen to that
I believe that the crowd is rooting for Reyes in part because Strickland comes off as a nasty SOB.
