- Here we view the classic cars, lorries & motorcycles at the excellent Dover Transport Museum in Kent. Housed in former army buildings not too far away from Dover's white cliffs in Whitfield, this transport museum houses many wonderful exhibits, some of which are touched upon here.
Classic cars on display include an Austin A90 Atlantic, Wolseley 6/90 saloon, Morris Minor 1000 Police car, an immaculate Ford Model Y, an MG TC and a wonderfully "barn find" MG TA Midget of 1938 presented in a great old recreated garage scene - complete with sound effects. The mighty pre-war Humber and Austin 7 trio (Austin 7 Chummy, Opal and van) are definitely worth the visit too.
Old lorries and other commercial vehicles are well represented too at the Dover Transport Museum with a large Bedford fire appliance (plus a Bedford CA pickup), a Leyland Titan bus, and a marvellous old Dennis tour bus/char-a-banc that was originally built to be used in Llandudno, North Wales. The impressive WW1 (1914) solid-tyred Pierce Arrow 5-ton truck is something to behold also.
There's also a wide range of motorcycles and mopeds on display of all sizes and age, including a huge collection of locally-built Norman motorcycles, plus garage memorabilia, and many re-created shop displays to give a flavour of days gone by.

Thanks to Dover Transport Museum for permitting me to record during our visit, and hats off to all the volunteers that keep this and similar museums afloat, especially during recent trying times.

What a top museum
Thanks for watching, well worth a visit
Beautiful museum, great British cars. Thank you from California.
My late father had a Raleigh moped in the early 1960's. He bought it on the Raleigh name reputation but it never lived up to his expectations in terms of power and reliability. He used it for commuting to the local railway station where he worked as a signalman. As a fourteen year old I was allowed to ride it at the station. From the goods yard, up the platform ramp, along the platform and down the ramp at the other end and then return. At that time the station was closed to passengers. Thanks for the memories.
Reminds me of the 1960s Raleigh Runabouts that dad had, with 49cc Mobylette (I think) engines
What a fantastic collection. Not only vehicles, but automobilia, and social history too. This bought back lots of pleasant memories for me. Thank you for sharing !
Glad you liked it, more vids like this due very soon
@@oldclassiccarUK Looking forward to those, thanks again !

The bike you couldn't make out might be a Murray.
I live in Dover and visit once a year. Very good its nice day out with the grandkids and the older ones. Lovely cafe. Worth a visit.
Loved the tour I will visit this museum in my MK1 Ford Transit a very good collection to see
Thanks for posting, I live on the south coast and been to dover that many times and had no idea this place existed. Will be visiting asap
Definitely worth a visit!
We had an identical Champion Spark Plug machine in my fathers garage until the mid 80’s. It was taken to the dump along with a big grey valve grinding machine and a couple of old 60’s Texaco petrol pumps during a tidy up and clear out.
One of my favourite Sunday pastimes as a 5 year old was rummaging through, a full to the top, 5 gal drum of old spark plugs looking for the odd shaped and coloured ones. I never got no more than a few inches down into the drum before I have to put them all back again and time to come home… and the following Sunday the whole process started all over again.
Great memories, although I need therapy now just thinking about chucking all that stuff away hehe 👍👍👍👍😎
The Bedford CA is my favourite too, my dad had one for his business, also a pickup. We called it Charlie😁
That was great, as a motorbike crazy lad, many years ago, I had a few of those Mopeds etc, great memories. Later I had my own Motorbike business both back home ( England ) and here in the US. In fact I am going to a Swap meet ( Auto Jumble ) this weekend in Tenino, Wa. Cheers.
Glad you liked it, if you've not seen it yet I've a video on here from last year of a motorcycle museum in Norfolk
I liked hearing the explanation of differences between Austin A30 and A35
Well, between you and your Son, you have both done a fantastic job of showing us this Museum - thank you. A very comprehensive look around with loads of interesting information. WELL DONE .
Thanks for watching the vids and supporting both channels :-)
@ 13.36: My dad's friend Tony owned Walker Trailers in Thornaby-on-Tees (which he had inherited from his father). A black A 30 was the first car I drove in 1964.
This museum is an absolute gem. It should be a must for every petrol head. I've been there loads of times and every time I see something new that I missed before. A really good example of how a museum should be.
Agreed, hope to get there again one day
Diden know of this but will defiantly be making a visit soon, many thanks for tour.
Excellent....really good..thank you for uploading...appreciated 👍
very nice thank you
The Dennis bus thing is a charabanc, a beauty! As is the CA tipper
Very hypnotic narration! Lots of memories. Very nice video.
Thanks for giving it a watch!
Brilliant Thanks
Thanks for watching
I remember Dennis test drivers piloting bare chassis's around Guildford in the late 70s early 80s
What a lovely video, thank you. I could almost smell the various oils, leather and vintage aromas. Having boarded during school time in that area in the 60s, the coach reminded me of trips to Kings of Canterbury for rugby matches. Happy days.
Thanks for watching, well worth a visit
Thanks for the tour👍, so many nice sights and smells to savour.🙂
Thanks for giving it a watch!
Love this little museum. Ive been only once though. They have a collection of Norman autocycles mopeds and motorbikes, the factory was in Ashford Kent. I have a1939 Norman Autocycle and a had a Norman model C.Norman took over Rudge which is why it is in the collection.
Ah I didn't realise the Rudge/Norman link, thanks
@@oldclassiccarUK yes. Then later they were swallowed by Tube investments then subsequently Raleigh. The Norman mane I think disappeared around 1960 on products.
Villiers still supply parts today for engines. They are based in Birmingham.
Good to see you getting about in the Home Counties......all very nostalgic remembering those Kent place names especially those associated with Ashford.... I'll have to pay the place a visit when I'm down there! keep up the good work.
Hmm I cannot remember watching this video either, Interesting place, pity Dover is a fair drive away from up Norf but worth a trip I think one day. A benefit of the appalling weather here today I a legitimate excuse catch up on what I have missed. I had a Triang pedal car when I was kid, it was redYou pisses an impressive encyclopedic knowledge of classic cars,
Very interesting and informative, thank you for uploading.
Thanks Edd!
nice old stuff nice vid thank you . challenge for you bet you cant find a Austin A70 pickup . be nice to see a standard vanguard van as well . thanks for the great vids you have
A REALLY good review - you get so much detail, that you feel you have actually been there!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was pretty good!# I so enjoyed! The work shop with the mechanic welding! way cool! Thank you!
Glad you liked it, please see some of the other vids on this channel: ua-cam.com/users/oldclassiccarRJvideos
Blimey the old Raleigh runabout I to had one to run about our local morse on ! How lovely to see and great memories when I could get it going of course and I could scrounge 30p for some petrol lol brilliant vid really enjoyed it thanks 👍
Thanks for checking it out, it's well worth a visit
Thank you for doing the video, it was fascinating.
I am a classic car fan, and also a modern petrolhead too, so I really do like all 4 wheel transportation and it's history.
On top of that, I have only just been informed by another UA-camr, that this museum is housed on the site of the old army barracks (Old Park Barracks), where I spent a year training in the junior leaders, Royal Engineers regiment, in the mid 1980's !!
It's sad to see the army completely gone from there, but also quite nice to see it has been turned into such a great place.
Hi, thanks, yes it was an interesting place, there are quite a few museum visit videos on the channel now if that's what you're into
Vincent!! Firefly that’s one I didn’t know about. Great tour thank you, I loved it.
Yep a new one to me too, thanks for watching, more vids elsewhere on the channel: ua-cam.com/users/oldclassiccarRJvideos
Great tour, thanks for the information
At 42:12 those police velos was called poachers bike because so quite, good for sneeking up on poachers.
Some fascinating stuff there. Thanks.
Cheers, keep an eye out for uploads coming up soon
My favourite is the AEC Duple coach but I do like the grey Wolseley.
This museum is situated in the defunct Old Park Barracks where I was posted to in the early 60s. The accommodation blocks have been demolished. These exhibition hall is in the old gymnasium, many a 'wonderful' time spent there, NOT.
It’s a pity I did not know about this museum in my younger years as I have a uncle who stays in castle drive Whitfield but it’s a 8 hour drive from scotland 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I hope Ian, that you DO sometime get to see the museum. ,,,(perhaps you could go by TRAIN?) I live in Surrey, and a friend from Dingwall went to the Kent coast to buy a Reliant Robin estate. We stayed by the Kent coast till he completed the purchase. The Kent coast has many pleasant places to visit, and to stay. So enjoy yourself, if you DO go to this museum! Also - what do the Union Jack emblems, by your comments mean?
@@nygelmiller5293 if I visit my uncle again on holiday I could just walk I would love to see Kent again the last time I was there the ground was being cleared for the channel tunnel
Petrol 2/1d a gallon, those were the days!
Looking at DTT346 it makes me krindge. When I had a Ford Prefect with a Mothercare feeder outfit that also doubled as a child car seat with a hook that just cliped over the backrest of the front seat that would tilt forward on its own. We did not realise the danger we put our children in those days
I wasn't convinced the Bedford CA was a tipper.
Thanks for watching, at first glance it looked just like a tipper/pickup I once owned, but afterwards I realised it was a pickup
It's strange how 4 wheel milk floats are not called trolleys
UKR 965 is electric?
🤔😥😥🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Hi, yes an electric milk delivery vehicle
My father was a grocer with a couple of shops and had a vehicle like this as a van for deliveries. Under the load area was a lot of car type batteries which took overnight to charge up. In the morning the van went like a bomb but in the afternoon one would making progress back to the garage praying the batteries could make it.
A little "breathey" on the sound. V Good tho.
Please, move the Camera a tad slower, i feel dizzy the way u move around. Thank U !
What about French cars? Dover is the nearest place to France.
I feature them when I see them ... keep an eye on the channel for French content
