Not so fun fact: During keep your friends close, before the wind bag was opened, they had gotten very close to the shores of Ithaca that his mother could see the ships from the balcony she was at. But then the bag was opened and the ships disappeared in a freak storm. Believing not only that her son died, but that see watched it happen, she died of grief and heartbreak.
A more fun fact (sorta) they're singing their final thoughts so Polites still believed in Open Arms even as he died. His last words (because we heard him say Captain so we know he was talking to Odysseus) would have been along the lines of Captain, don't forget to greet the world with open arms
@@Obsidiana_99 A third fact was that the song actually not only devastated us but also his own mother who sung the song. It was the first time she was confronted with the idea that he would outlive her.
LIGHT SPOILERS FOR THE MEANING OF SOME PARTS OF TIREASIS' PROPHECY Before someone told me, I had interpreted it as a crown being torn off his head rather than it being Polites' headband. I thought Gigi was subtly implying that there is a risk in Odysseus making the choice to be the monster that Penelope may not want anything to do with him anymore. 22:00 I always say this and I will keep saying this. Open arms was fine. Polites died having a happy life despite being at war for 10 years can you imagine? You had good last moments despite being hardened by war for 10 years, a brutaş war too. "Kindness is brave" not "safe" its dangerious but if you don't take that risk ever you will never be happy in your life. Mistake was not sparing the Cyclops it was giving your gps coordinates to him destroyed Odysseus. Open Arms states you should spare him and leave without causing problem, monster dictates you declare your name and kill the cyclops, stupid dictates you spare and then tell him your name
Super Duper Fun facts about the Greek Afterlife: Greek funeral rites involved placing coins over the eyes of the deceased. This is so that they can pay Charon the ferryman to carry them across the River Styx. If you cannot pay the ferryman, then you're left unable to cross the River Styx and are forced to relive your final moments over and over again until the Ferryman get's round to helping you for free. For this reason drowning at sea was one of the most feared ways to die in Greek Myth, because there was basically no chance that your body would be recovered for the appropriate funeral rites. So you would be forced to essentially repeatedly drown in the Styx. This is also an added layer to why "Remember Them" is so sad. When Eurylochus asked what they could do for their fallen friends and Odysseus said that all they could do was remember them, he knew that he was sentencing them to an afterlife of fear and pain as he couldn't arrange to help them with the Ferryman. The things the spirits are saying in Underworld are (confirmed by Jorge to be) the final thoughts of the dead men playing on repeat. The ~550 soldiers who drowned in Ruthlessness are all questioning their captain and asking why he did what he did. Polities, in spite of dying by being crushed by the Cyclops died wishing that Odysseus would continue to greet the world with open arms. And Anticlea (his mother) died waiting for Odysseus to get back I don't think Jorge has ever confirmed how Anticlea died in this version of canon. Depending on the exact translation of a translation of a translation you read of the original, sometimes she is simply bought to despair by seeing her son's fleet blown away by the sudden storm so stops eating and dies that way. Sometimes she throws herself from the towers of his castle, and sometimes she throws herself into the ocean to be with her (presumed dead) son. She's the King's Mother, so if she died in her bed or even on the grounds of the castle, I can't see a world in which she didn't get funeral rites, so the fact that we see her among the other souls of those who can't cross the river implies, to me at least, that she likely threw herself into the ocean in this version as well
While I can understand how Eurylochus can bring some frustration to you. And not trying to say that you can’t be frustrated or angry with him, hell even though I like his character, I get frustrated with him. But I feel that the Circe Saga didn’t really portray his thoughts in the most clear light, so this is just to bring some understanding to his thoughts. During the Circe Saga, when Eurylochus says “Let’s just cut our losses, you and I and let’s run.” He’s saying that it’s better to cut their losses and leave with the crew they have left than to try and save the rest of the crew and risks more people being lost. Keep in mind, Eurylochus had already seen the power that Circe could wield, so trying to fight her in combat would only result in more losses than gain. They could try to convince or beg her to let their men go, but that wasn’t guaranteed to work and could have the same result (and when Odysseus did convince her, it was mostly due to the fact that she had heard of how long it’s been since he’s seen his wife). If they can’t fight her or convince her, then they really had no way of defeating her. It’s also important to keep in mind that Eurylochus had no idea of Hermès’ existence on the island, even Odysseus didn’t know of Hermes until he revealed himself to Odysseus. The only reason that Odysseus was able to defeat Circe was because of Hermes assistance with the Molly. Without Hermes, Odysseus would have most certainly lost against Circe. And again Eurylochus didn’t know about Hermes, so in his mind they have no way of actually defeating Circe. Think of it like this, if you see you don’t have any way of defeating your opponent, would it really make sense to go in there anyways? They already had lost 500 men to Poseidon, why risk more being lost by trying to save the others trapped with a being that has more power than a mortal man? Like he said “Every loss is so much more than what we earned” “Look at all the men we have before they’re none.” They had already lost so much, he knows there’s no way to defeat Circe, so he wants to preserve the men they have left before they’re gone too. Is it selfish and cowardly? Debatable but yes. But it’s also understandable why he would think it’s the best option they have.
I knew it would be rough for you especially from the beginning of how your reaction to first two songs in musical went. I hope you're okey. Next saga is going to be intense on the level of cyclops/ocean saga. And it's Thunder Saga! I know the name gives away the appearance of the certain character but it's how they encounter him is unknown which still leaves a lot of surprises. Also if you choose Nealillustrator for the last song of the Thunder saga... just letting you know beforehand, the event take place on the ship, not on land.
Yea, I'm okay. :) I was functional by the end of the second song lol enough to comment on Monster and stuff. . . . So if it's called Thunder Saga. . . 😏
Yep i knew those tissues would come in handy! (Kinda) Fun facts 1: the souls in the underworld arent speaking to Ody.. They cant actually see hes there.. What they are saying is actually their final thoughts (yes this means even when Polites was calling for Ody his final thoughts were "captain.. Greet the world with open arms") 2: the reason the mother is down there is because during the Ocean saga right before the windbag was open.. She could see their ships in the distance.. And when the bag did open.. She thought they all died and drowned herself in the ocean 3: everything the prophet said were thing that are yet to happen.. But we will see them soon I cant wait for the next saga! Also a warning.. You might wanna keep those tissues around.. Each saga has atleast 1 tear jerker from now on

Since noone mentioned it yet, jorge confirmed that what the souls say are their last thoughts and are infact not interacting with odyseus, wich makes polites and his moms part so much worse in my humble opinion
Another not so fun fact: in Ancient Greek culture, burial rites were super important. If you didn’t bury the dead, they would never be able to cross the River Styx and rest or reincarnate. Therefore none of his men would be able to rest or reincarnate, doomed to be stuck on the shores of The Styx due to his actions (whether not collecting the dead from Polyphemus or the crew lost at sea to Poseidons wrath)
