Lots of Fish on This Jig - Fall Fishing is Starting!

  • We fished a lot of water in the wake of back to back storms to find the change in weather is igniting the fishing ahead of fall. Water temperatures are dropping and baitfish are schooling up with multiple species of fish under them. A bulky bucktail jig got the job done on this trip.

    I would think with the push for catch and release that the fishing would start to bounce back. Do you think it's an issue with pressure? The bait is there, that's for sure.

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  3 роки тому +2

      It depends on the design. Less than 20 feet can be an issue if you don't have high freeboard. Anything with a low bow or low cut transom is a potential problem. You also need some jump to get out of the rip.

    I am still catching in Downeast Maine as of 2 nights ago. I will try again tonight. I've been averaging 5 or so fish (stripers) from shore each trip recently, including 1 or 2 keepers per trip almost every time. There are areas around here that have a ton of current with rocks and kelp on bottom. It is a challenge! Thank you for your content it has helped me get onto more fish.

    John have you had any issues with Berkley X9 braid? Reading reviews online a guy says him and his friends have issues with the braid getting tangled coming off the spools when casting. They have to cut their lines and retie their rigs

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  3 роки тому +1

      Almost all of my florida fishing is done with 20# X9 on a 2000 Tsunami Evict. It's been very well-behaved. Almost all of that fishing is with light payloads that are more likely to cause wind knots.

    If this was yesterday 9-4-21 I was at the other end of fishers island trying out my new, (older John skinner recommendation) Tsunami classic TSCC701H with Quantum reel. All I have to say is wow what a fun combo. Caught my 1st keep sea bass. Now I think I may have to get the John Skinner dark matter and see how it pairs with my Accurate 400 reel. And maybe try it for slow pitch jigging. When the Dark Matter John Skinner Jig and Bounce Casting Rods come back into stock at J&H. Wait does that sound like a commercial or something?

    • @TheNockingPoint
      @TheNockingPoint 3 роки тому

      My Accurate 400 is currently on a 7" Tiger ugly stick medium action while it works great while bait fishing, and is fair for my first jigging rod. The Tsunami with the quantum reel has spoiled me. Now when I pick up the ugly stick it feels like a telephone pole.

    Hey John, I have this rod. I caught over 50 fluke this year so far with the accurist reel, with my biggest being 8 lbs. I know you had some blues in this video, but I'm curious to know if this rod would handle bigger blues and stripers in the 10-25 lb range. Thank you for all that you do.

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  3 роки тому

    I know you already did it but could you go through your fluke box again including all your gulp, your favorite colors if it and your striper and bluefish box?? I still feel like I am suffering from gear overload and I think it would be cool since you have probably updated and have new favorite lures and colors.

    If I could buy one of those John Skinner Dark Matter rods I'd have one. Hopefully they will become available soon. Based on the specs it looked like it would handle most of my jigging requirements. Thanks for confirming. I find the hardest part of fishing with that kind of rig is not chipping my boat up. I have to try the 6' and 1' leader. It looked like you could get the sinker over the gunnel before the fish breaks the water. I don't go out on vacation weekends in south jersey but was out last week and the bunker are everywhere and it's wonderful to see.
