William is really that good! Tiny Threads is my next read. Right now I’m on We came to welcome you and so far it is spooky. I want to read The Queen this month also.
Found your channel. I'm glad I did. I've added a few books to my TBR that I didn't know about. Especially OF THE FLESH, which isn't yet listed for sale here in the US. Gonna check Waterstones and see if it's there. It has such a beautiful cover, btw. Someone elae who agreed with me regarding MAEVE FLY! I so WANTED to love that book! It was on my most anticipated 5-star read. Oh how I was so disappointed after reading. Then I would see other reviews raving about the book. I would be lying I said just fir a second, I doubted myself .... then I got myself together .... 😅 Looking forward to more videos!! Take care!
Welcome, glad you stumbled upon my little corner of the internet! No you weren't wrong in your opinion!! Not to be shady, but I feel like those who rated Maeve Fly highly solely did so just because it had an "unhinged female character" and that's trendy within the community at the moment. She wasn't a well written character in my opinion, the story itself was slow and cliche and the ending was just a bit cringy.
super excited for a sunny place and of the flesh!! mariana enríquez fans are well-fed this year. she also has a story included in the latin american horror collection Through the Night Like a Snake published earlier this year :)
Thanks for putting this together. Many of your suggestions sound really interesting, so I put them on my Goodreads list. Withered Hill especially sounds good, I'm a big fan of folk horror. And The Bog Wife sounds great as I live close to the Appalachia area in the Smoky Mountains.
Ah no worries, I've wanted to make a video like this for a while so I'm glad it's actually informative. Also, I'm working on a folk horror video at the moment so keep an eye out for it in the coming weeks!!
I recently listened to the audiobook of "The House of Last Resorts". As an Italian myself, I found it engaging how the author portrayed the southern Italian life of Sicily, with some passages even written in Italian. The story itself was highly predictable, but overall, it was a nice read. Of course, this is just my personal taste.
That's understandable, I find that certain horror novels can lean into the cliche themes or tropes but just because they do so, it doesn't take away from ones overall enjoyment of it.
loved this video! I'm most excited about The Black Hunger, I have the ARC from netgalley, but I like reading epistolary novels in physical form so I preordered a copy from Blackwells
