I own the Terra Nova Competition 2 Tarp & during the colder months I set it up just like Dave has shown here. It really does feel like a tent when you get inside & plenty of room for 1-2 people. The tarp is good quality and very light 550g, thanks Dave for sharing this video on youtube & greetings from Brighton England.
I just noticed this tarp on your website last night. It resembles the DD hammocks tarp that I have for my hammock. It looks like a great alternative to the 5x7 tarp in the 5C kit. Nice job on growing your online store Dave.
Dave, you cease to amaze me with your dedication and willingness to teach us. I'm, a huge advocate of making my own gear and do when i can, but I simply dont have the time to do it much anymore...thanks for bringing quality to use at a very reasonable price. BTW i'm losing sleep over what i hope will become a pathfinder edition Leatherman!
hey dave nice tarp. i took a standard 10x12 turned in over duct taped .25 inch line all the way around the tarp making loops at the corners and middle. works great, im going to add the connection on top like this tarp thats cool. thanks again for the vids, vets forever thanks for ur service!!!
Great tarp and great video. I called the store in Indiana about the tents. I'll be picking up a couple of tarps first though. I wish it had a few more grommets. I'll just have to add my own. Thanks.
Another great video with hands on schooling thank you Dave I have added this tarp from your store to my gear. Thank you sir for the style and way that you have thought me the skills of bushcraft.
Hey Dave, I little off topic and I'm sure you and everyone knows this but, I was out camping with some friends yesterday and me and my buddy Wes are good at starting fires with flint and steel with the help of char cloth. My buddy Wes normally finds the bigger fuel and I find the birds nest and tinder bundle. Then his girlfriend tossed us a bag of Doritos and said burn em. So after he stuck the flint, and had the birds nest on fire we toss on the chips and boom that sucker went up quick.
great tarp, great compant. I bought the slar elite tent and it's awesome. Hey Dave, I went to soak city at knotts berry farm in bueana park, ca. theres a streat there with your last name. You have a streat named after you now man! congrats.
I'm so glad you started selling these... They're a great price for the size and quality. The Pathfinder Poncho is really nice, but kinda pricey for me at the moment. This is perfect for my Hammock setup.
this year has been terribly dry so ground moisture and rainfall has been a moot point.(altho humidity is starting to rise again to produce fog at the dew point in the AM again) But I am getting more and more sold on a hammock style system with a canopy shelter for wind rain and heavy dew protection. this appears to have 3 tie outs on each side to make that happen too.
Thank you very much for bringing us a tarp that is both large enough for versatile use and is also affordable. How refreshing. It is also, as you point out, very robust, and that is great. Do check out the DD Large tarp, also from the UK and also very affordable ... Prolly not quite as robust as this Terra Nova but can be had in 3-Meter or 4-Meter sizes and has 19 tie outs ... is that right ? ... YES ... 19 tie outs. 3-meters = $68 US free shipping.
@bobaloosb Yeah any type of corn chip is great for extending the burn time with tinder. I use fretoes a lot for this. They have a good oil content in the corn chip. It's a neat little trick if u have them handy in the bush.
really awesome tarp. a little rich for my blood but if I had the cash to spare I would be all over it. ill be sticking with my army pancho for the time being.
Widershins: 13inch bridge nails are the greatest for tent pegs there a bit heavy but for rocky, frozen or just plain hard ground they are the best they last for ever if they bend just beat them straight in a pinch you can tie a peace of cord on two and thread them through the sleaves of your coat then if you fall through ice you may be able to haul yourself out with them, and you can throw them like a throwing knife in a pinch I hope your never up against these dire straights. Good tarp.
making an exterior or interior Bi-Pod with two longer sticks tied to that front upper eyelet and then staked and guyed straight out front with a single line to a center anchor would open the interior up.
looks like a very good product, been looking for a light weight all around tarp,at a reasonable price. i do allot of outdoor living, and always looking to improve my go bag. keep doing what you do, it is appreciated. and thank you for serving, as a former Ranger, i know what it means to servre this great country we live and play in . Tom
Looks like a read good deal that tarp. Just a little tip for when using that kind of material including your jackets etc made of that, To make them realy water proof dont wax them just apply sofet white paraffin bought from a chemist and rub it in with a cloth then put it into a tuble dryer for a few moments to spread around the material and when its dry its water proof totaly. Also its not greasy to touch.Try it and tell me what ya think.
Noticed you had a different knife then your old one, been awhile since watched your vids. Also noticed your very cool looking pouch kinda reminds me of work Chip Brown does over at Brown Cow. Anyway cool review I am going to look into getting one.
Just received the tarp! At 22.7oz with bag it is much lighter than I would have thought. Really impressed with the overall build quality. Also received #12 bank line. I think the 12 might be even more versatile than the #36 for most bush crafting stuff. Seems to smell much more like tar than the 36 as well. Does the smell ever interfere with using it for snares? As usual, everything was packed beautifully and with no surprises. Just quality stuff. Thanks
nice set up have yout tried setting it up like a tipi (two corners pegged out the other two pegged together ang the center raised) If you haven't give it a go, I'd like to see how well this tarp holds up in that setup, I have a DD multi cam 3x3 but it doesn't seem to be holding up too well nice set up btw cheers
This tarp looks pretty good, but I would have a hard time spending that much on something that will likely become riddled with flying ash burn holes. I usually only use a tarp as shelter when I plan on sleeping beside a fire, otherwise I use my $20 tent that seems to be in a smaller carrying case and takes about 5 minutes to set up. Id like to eventually get a better tarp but this is always the thing holding me back.. Is there a good solution to this, like a flame resistant spray or something?
Panther Primative's make an oilcloth tarp that is built just like this tarp and the ways to set this type of tarp up is endless...my oilcloth is my goto tent year round
Dave u saleing this tarp? I got a terra nova solar comp 1p tent ad I love it 2.5 lbs compresses to smaller than that tarp and its free standing . I must say they make good stuff.
Hi Dave. Nice review again. I will probably order one. Just a question to anyone with experience with usmc tarp. After your review of the usmc ilbe pack, i found out they also have usmc tarps in digital camo abd fire resistant material. If i intend to have a fire underneath or near the tarp, is the fire resisrant material going to make a big difference??
Awesome price point for that tarp about half of what similar ones cost. I guess that's why the first batch is already out of stock. Any idea when you will get more in?
this is off topic but when is the pathfinder store gonna have the 32oz canteen and cup in stock bc i was wanting to order the haversac 5cs survival bag
I've got a question I wonder if you would answer on one of your vids. I live in Florida, I always Carry a Kukri, why are hatchet or hawks so important in the north woods? Why not a big knife? I see a lot about hatchet & hawks in the north woods but very little about big knife use. Thanks Dave.
Dave, is it water proof ? I'm still using my brown 10x8 tarp from HomeDepot, I see the new ones have reinforce corners made of plastic. before I order this I need to know how it is in the rain. This looks much lighter and a must have for my hikes.
Dave, looking at ordering the Shelter kit with this tarp, but I noticed you also have the Competition tarp. Which do you feel is harder wearing/longer lasting?
I love your ideas for the tattoo set ups, but I just have one question. What would you do to stop rain water from flowing into your tato/tent from an unexpected rain storm?
whats the difference between the adventure tarp and the competition tarp?what i can see from their site is that the adventure is a little bigger and slightly less waterproof (although 4000 mm is enough i think). Really thankfull for the answers
freaken awesome dave, i wish i knew how to make my self get out there and start bushcrafting and learning, i feel a longing for the woods but im creaped out and i almost fear it, is that normal?
Ordered this on Friday with some other items. Just wondering if you prefer 550 cord or #36 bank line for your tarps. I see the tarp is packaged nicely with the 550 cord, but my first instinct was to use the bank line. I have both, so didn't order the kit. Thanks for all you do!!
Dave, How does this compare to the Competition 2 in terms of durability? Which one will last longer out in the elements? Does the Competition 2 have the same ridge line tie-out that the Adventure 2 does?
Hey Dave ...You said on the video that the tarp is almost 10x10 but on ur store says 9.6 x7.10 ....How big really is? great products and videos ... thanks
Dear Mr. Canterbury i wanted to let you know that the prices of the matirials needed for a three day class is crazy i respect and admire you but going on a 3 day basic survival class with pathfinders cost just about $1000 if i was to go along with my father and this has nothing to to with class prices directly but the prices of materials needed for the class and on a final note you say you make these videos for the common man but the common man cant afford to spend $1000 for a 3 day class
Dave, I like most of your videos.. BUT.. you have a habit of shooting TOO much close-ups. When you were setting up this tarp all we got see is small area and lots of your body. Can't really see the overall layout until you were finished. Your videos would MUCH more useful if you gave a wider angle view.... move the camera back or use a wide angle lens and use selective choice of close ups. Hope this is taken as a helpful comment ;-) Chuck Alldrin Chico, CA

Oh, I didn't know about this one. This looks like an excellent tarp Dave... thanks for showing and informing us!
Great tarp and great video. I called the store in Indiana about the tents. I'll be picking up a couple of tarps first though. I wish it had a few more grommets. I'll just have to add my own. Thanks.
I've never had the chance to use a tarp with a center tie out. Always thought it was a really good idea. May have to get one of these
Another great video with hands on schooling thank you Dave I have added this tarp from your store to my gear. Thank you sir for the style and way that you have thought me the skills of bushcraft.

I will have to add this to my list of the many things that I have bought from your site. Always a pleasure. Thanks again. CURRAHEE!
HEY DAVE....JUST BOUGHT ONE...CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT....ALL YOUR VIDEOS ARE GOOD STUFF BROTHER!!!!
thanks for reviewing Dave,,that centre tie up loop really increases it's versatility ,,all the best!

Great video Dave deffo picking one of these up in the future , thanks for all the time and effort you put into this channel .
I love how the grommets are so secure! good pricing as well. thanks for the review!
I'll definitely be getting one of these to use with my jungle hammock.
really awesome tarp. a little rich for my blood but if I had the cash to spare I would be all over it. ill be sticking with my army pancho for the time being.

I'm so glad you did this review, this is exactly what I've been in the market for. Will be hitting up the pathfinder store very soon.
That looks like a durable tarp, and much lighter weight than the 10 mil ones that you buy at Lowes.
Noticed you had a different knife then your old one, been awhile since watched your vids. Also noticed your very cool looking pouch kinda reminds me of work Chip Brown does over at Brown Cow. Anyway cool review I am going to look into getting one.

thanks for the review brother! and thank you for your vids i look to you as you look to nessmuk.
nice tarp. I would love it more if it had tie outs on the middle of the sides to bring the sides out off you.
Great video Dave! Thanks!
In your online shop you have Listed the Terra Nova Adventure Tarp 2 dimensions as 9'6" X 7'10" it should be 9'10" X 9'6".
Yeah, first post! Keep up the good work Dave.
Nice! All the other tarps I've looked in to costs about 150-200 dollars..
Ya know... I really like that tarp...
Thanks for the great review Dave! I am checking out your online store right now. =D
I like the loop and toggle trick.
Dave you need a smaller belt brother! Haha just kidding around man love the videos keep them coming!
How do you keep the mosquitoes away if you have no bug repellent, which I dislike using?
Bloody 'ell mate, looking FANTASTIC! :D
Awesome Dave, another great product.
Great product, great review, and great channel. I cant get enough man.
if they came with a silver mylar layer on the inside, i'd buy one in a heartbeat.
nice set up have yout tried setting it up like a tipi (two corners pegged out the other two pegged together ang the center raised) If you haven't give it a go, I'd like to see how well this tarp holds up in that setup, I have a DD multi cam 3x3 but it doesn't seem to be holding up too well nice set up btw cheers

Huge tarp. Be awesome if one side was safety orange in color.

I'm going to your Site and buy a couple of these.
Just a quick FYI, it says the tarp is 9'6" x 7' 10" on the web site.
Excellent review thanks
Great tarp.

As usual very good information...ty...b
I like it, but I'm torn between that and the poncho tarp you have...Hmmmm maybe i'll get em both lol

Dave, looking at ordering the Shelter kit with this tarp, but I noticed you also have the Competition tarp. Which do you feel is harder wearing/longer lasting?
How much does this tarp weigh? Looks perfect for warm weather hiking trips or an emergency option for hunting.
Hey Dave I see you now carry both types of axe which one do you prefer I,m going to get one but would like a little run down on them when you got time
I ask and you deliver. Ordering one on payday.
would the waist height rule still apply if your tall? or is there just a standard height for the maximum heat rentention?
very interesting!! Thanks for the video!
Dave is the real deal.
Hey Dave you have the center of the tarp tied up in a tree or in a branch up above?
I tried to find the in your store but I can't do you stop selling it
It looks good btw Dave what is you opinion on bear grylls knifes thanks brother

Hi Dave, do you know what the weight of this tarp is? I'm comparing it to the v9 from treklightgear.
Nice!
Will you be getting anymore? I dont see the Adventure Tarp, just the competition tarp on your site.
Cool!
when are you getting more of the pathfinder poncho tarps?
Ordered this on Friday with some other items. Just wondering if you prefer 550 cord or #36 bank line for your tarps. I see the tarp is packaged nicely with the 550 cord, but my first instinct was to use the bank line. I have both, so didn't order the kit. Thanks for all you do!!
If Zombies attack Dave will be ready !!!
Dave, when are you going to have the tarp back in stock?
I'd like to have something like this in canvas.
Dave,
How does this compare to the Competition 2 in terms of durability? Which one will last longer out in the elements? Does the Competition 2 have the same ridge line tie-out that the Adventure 2 does?
what is the name of the intro song!!! i can't find it by lyrics... please help
Hey Dave ...You said on the video that the tarp is almost 10x10 but on ur store says 9.6 x7.10 ....How big really is? great products and videos ... thanks
Awesome!
Did you ever find an answer to this question?
how is it around fire?

yea buddy first comment nice vid guys
You might want to take someone with you for the camera work. Your angles make it really hard to follow what you are talking about about half the time.
Ahh the pleasure of being first and knowing that no one cares.
first, nice vid btw
