Thanks for sharing this. I've been exploring the Dandenong Ranges since I got my motorbike and sometimes wondered about the history of the place and roads. I should film some footage of my rides so that future great grand-children might share it online one day to show what Mt Dandenong looked like 'back then"! :-)
Big thanks for that. Lived in Olinda in the late 70's and traversed that road many times. But I sure wouldn't have liked doing so on that unmade road and in any of the cars of that era.
I hasten to add it couldn't have been filmed from a car - it's faked to look like a car. If you note how it does a very tight 360 degree turn at the end, 'spinning on a dime' as some people would say. Know way could a car have done that back then at such speed. The all had a dreadful turning circle, very heavy steering etc. Which tends to support the bit in the film where it appears a dog should have been run over if it was a car! I reckon the camera was mounted on a motor bike or side car or similar with a fake bonnet etc.
My Dandenong was one of my hangout spots in the 80s talking over Melbourne airwaves on the old 10/4 good budgie CB radio and started walking up the firebreak in my fitter years lol

Delightful! Thankyou so much for posting! My Mum grew up in Sassafras in the 1930s. Very special to see this footage.
I hope that driver missed that dog :-(
The roads look better back then

This is great thank you
Vintage 'Go Pro' action!
Must have been rich to own a car back then.
Now most people who own cars are made poor by them.

Fantastic is there more to this video.?
Unfortunately that is it for the Dandenongs. I have one more set around Seymour that I am yet to upload.
