- Andrew Lloyd Webber’s STARLIGHT EXPRESS opens summer 2024 in the specially designed Starlight Auditorium at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. Audiences will be immersed inside a world of speed, song and storytelling as an incredible cast of 40 whizz around and above, performing some of musical theatre’s most beloved songs, including AC/DC, Make Up My Heart, Light at the End of the Tunnel and the iconic Starlight Express.
As a child’s train set magically comes to life and the engines race to become the fastest in the world, Rusty the steam train has little hope of winning until he is inspired by the legend of the ‘Starlight Express’.
Seen around the world by over 20 million people, STARLIGHT EXPRESS is an electrifying experience for all ages. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, the creative team is helmed by acclaimed director Luke Sheppard (&Juliet, The Little Big Things), set designer Tim Hatley (Back to the Future), video designer Andrzej Goulding (Life of Pi), costume designer Gabriella Slade (Six), lighting designer Howard Hudson (&Juliet), sound designer Gareth Owen (MJ the Musical) with new orchestrations and musical supervision by Matthew Brind.
Featuring thrilling new choreography by Ashley Nottingham (Pacific Overtures) and casting by Pearson Casting CDG, STARLIGHT EXPRESS also sees the return of Arlene Phillips as creative dramaturg.
The Starlight Auditorium at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre is a state-of-the-art cultural destination only 12 minutes from Baker Street and a short 5-minute walk from the tube. There are great parking options and the theatre is easily accessible via the M25 and M1.

This is pretty much Andrew Lloyd Webber’s underrated gem. It’s like “What if there was a cartoony like musical?” and it’s not bad at it (the US 2004 tour really pulled it off). As a Starlight Express fan, I am excited for its return. Hopefully this time they’ll record it the way they recorded the Cats musical. The musicals have all been recorded from camera and hopefully this one will be different. I have a huge heart for this musical but that’s a story for another day.
You mean like the 1998 film? If yes, then honestly I feel like Starlight Express is the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical that deserves it the most. Maybe not because it's Webber's best musical, but because I feel like it hasn't gotten a lot of performances in these current times because of the large and specifically built stage. Though to be honest, I would like to make a 2D animated film based on this one day.

In my opinion, Starlight Express would be the best Webber musical to have an animated adaptation, but as a miniseries, due to all the plots, including character backstories

I can't wait to take my daughter to see this! I saw the original version and the revamped version during its run in London yeras ago and always said, should it come back to the UK, I would take my kids top see it. My daughter is now a Musical Theatre student at Uni and this is one of those shows that just has to be seen!
I highly suggest you make the trip to also see it in Bochum at some point, that stage is awesome!

The fact the official website says "Beloved song including.... Make Up My Heart" implies they're performing "The New Starlight Express" and not the original run.

This says summer 2024, but I wonder what are the chances there will be early previews in the spring? Since the original show opened in March of '84, that would put it at the 40th anniversary. Just wishful thinking on my part. Because there's a possibility I will be in London some time next year, but I don't know exactly when yet, and wouldn't it be a kick in the head if I was too early to see the show!

@@FoxofNothing different audience, different production team. Productions of Starlight have always differed from one another, it's part of the charm. I'm just speaking as an 80s rock fan hoping they don't make it all RnB and Taylor Swift for the kids. Some of my favourite songs have recently been ousted or corrupted in the Bochum production so I can only hope for a different track with this one. Plus would be nice to replace some of the old characters/numbers removed from London in 1992.
I would like to see the original. I come from Germany and the version every year is always a little different but at its core it is the same

'Starlight Express' is perhaps one of KeiferAdams5423 favourite musicals of all time. Soto celebrate the return of this musical like no other One of these stories is about a majestic steam engine that only travels at night. The other engines think Percy is silly for believing such stories, but he is determined to find the Starlight Express, but when a funding fall a roller rink homage in big apple city leads to a shock of lesson learning not Even Percy was expecting to go wrong leads Rosie to break up with Thomas strawberry shortcake & her friends discover a new positive lesson powered surprise each that only they can use to save friend landia from total wound up & prod destruction. and you get help along the way in A:Loydd Webber's individual iconicle in it's first kids production
