    Home Depot just had a bunch of edible plants like gooseberry, jostaberry, currants, grapes, honeysuckle male/female. The normal raspberry, blueberry, and blackberry too.
    I normally grow ground cherry or that they volunteer to grow wherever they want.

    as a kid in Southeast Alaska, my friend had a huge gooseberry bush in their yard and I munched my way through hundreds of those delicious things at the perfection of ripeness during many a summer. Darn it, now I’m feeling melancholy! nothing a few gooseberries wouldn’t fix, heh heh.

    I love gooseberries. I live in Sweden and grew up with them, what I like most is the bushes are always full every year, and for several weeks I can eat them.

    Gooseberries can be defoliated in late summer by sawfly larvae, hard to see because they're green. They emerge from the soil. Pruning to an open vase shape helps. Spraying hard with water will also knock them off (pick them up and squish them) Here in central Pa. I have that pest some summers on some bushes. Just saying.

    Your grapes are just eating that trellis. I have 3 gooseberries in the ground at the moment (2 more, soon). They seem to like afternoon shade around here, so I have them mostly at the base of larger trees. They seem to be a little more tolerant of the sun than the jostaberries. All have of my gooseberries have vicious thorns, but it's worth the for the fruit.

      That they are. Especially since the Mars decided not to fruit this year.

      Get your soil tested for PH and nutrients and adjust accordingly.

    So I just moved in the spring and found what i thought was just a bush in the yard and i cut this thing down to the ground, like just the wood nubs sticking out like an inch. Its growing back with vengeance and now I wish i didnt just ignorantly chop it down. Will it grow fruit ever again ?

    They are a great fruit i have 9 bushs most very thorny , never had a problem until last year all of a sudden got attacked by a small green worm that devoured the foiliage sprayed them good this year at first sign of this worm and no problem.

    • @roccoconte2960
      @roccoconte2960 5 років тому

      @@RossRaddi Its a small green worm that also attacks pine trees ,i think its called currant worm, theres a desease called pine blister thats transferred from currants and gooseberries to pine trees thats why some states dont allow currants and gooseberries shipped into there state.

      @@kellykittinger5969 I live in Mass. i think the worm is a particular problem in Mass. keep the bushes well thined allow for extra air cirulation it helps with currants and gooseberries.

    My Gooseberries do not seem to want to fruit. The few they put on disappear before they're ripe. My one bush (Pixwell variety) is now a large beautiful bush, but no fruit. I need to research their pH requirements since you have them with blueberries which are nearly impossible to grow here in the Southwest

    • @RossRaddi
      @RossRaddi  5 років тому

      Are you sure something isn't getting to them? Gooseberries don't have a special ph requirement.
