Absolutely loved Time Team one of the best things ever on TV. The last series involved a visit to my small village in Shropshire ….a test pit in my garden produce a 1902 penny, old clay pipes and a shard of Roman pottery.

I was just recently turned onto this series... WOW. As an American, I love how incredibly rich the history of the UK is and, being a student of history, I find it fascinating. This history is the partial history of my country because of it's U.K. colonial roots and the heritage of many people from my area of New England. It all has a very real linear tracing to much of the world's history as well. I love it and Tony Robinson is an absolute treasure.

Archaeology and history may be more accessible, the conquests more distinct and the monuments and remnants more durable in much of the British isles, but people were living their lives other places as well. Your own continent is no exception, so I don't understand why you have so many egyptologists and such.
I suppose it must be the ability to tie things together with written history which feels neat. I prefer prehistory.

We have a vast history under us but it rarely gets attention, because it doesn't support the "Mainstream Academic" model, the Darwinian Theory used a fact foundation for their Paradigm. A most frustrating linear idea and "its just wrong, artifacts way predate their Paradigm.

To a complete amateur like me,Time Team brought archeology alive for me. I enjoyed TT from the minute it started, so find it all repeated here is marvellous. Wether you had hundreds of finds or just a few, it was always interesting, so in a way a guaranteed success. The Round houses they started to build, we visited in 2014 and saw the completed articles ( we visited the windmill behind them as well ).

There is now a new cTime Team that’s done a few digs recently. It’s crowd funded and have several of the old group involved.
Phil is busy at Waterloo but John Gater, Carenza Lewis, Matt Williams, Helen G, Tim Taylor, Stewart A etc. are on board. Bridged and her husband Rays-an are consulting from New Zealand.

It has just occurred to me that a major reason that I enjoy Time Team is that most episodes occur in villages or middle-of-nowhere places that are not on the itinerary of most American tourists I think. The grasslands with a few hills in the distance in this episode remind me a bit of some places that I have seen on the Great Plains. It's interesting to see how much of the UK is still agricultural.

I used to scoff at Francis Pryor and his 'ritual landscape' narrative. Then, I retired and had the time to research ancient history, folklore, mythologies and beliefs. He is absolutely correct. Think: animism, pantheism and ancestor 'worship'. Their world was alive with 'spirits' and 'gods' and even their ancestors, whom they often deified and worshipped as gods. A completely different worldview than that of modern man. To us, it would've been an alien world. An alien landscape.

It's rather disturbing to be around.

Yes, sir. God didn't make anything profane or "mundane". Modern humans, especially, imo, "scientific" types, seem to take the Earth for granted. But they don't stop to ask "why" is the Earth so beautiful and majestic, why is everything about the Earth so perfect for life (so far), why are small furry animals so cute, etc. it all points to the "Beyond" you mention. a Beyond of Love for us and for the other creatures.

I wonder how effective the wicker man would really have been as a means of human sacrifice? People always go on about it with reference to the Druids and I feel it needs contextualising. The accusation was made by a culture that routinely fed people to the lions for sport and loved accusing others of human sacrifice, being about the only grizzly barbaric practice the Romans didn't indulge in. The evidence for it in Britain is basically Lindow Man (correct me if I'm wrong) - while we can say he was probably ritually executed, archaeology doesn't tell us for what reason and by whom. Miranda Green points out the similarities with Danish bog deaths, it's a long way to go just to get rid of a cauldron.
