Love vermouth. I've been drinking it since I was 18 in a gin martini. Back then, I did a 1-to-1 ratio on the rocks. I loved it. I prefer them at 2-to-1 stirred and up, but I still have some of those 1-to-1 on the rocks occasionally. They're still enjoyable.
Good info video. Would love to see a video from you covering other aromatized wine (ex. Punt E Mas & Dubonnet) and how to get the most out of those bottles
I mean, technically they are all Vermouth, so the content of the video applies. But as i've said in the new direction of the channel, my focus is Pubs & Bars... not top end Cocktails. So veering away from easy serves, or looking at products an average Pub would never stock, isn't really on the agenda. Soz 👍️
I was initially put off by vermouth. As a teenager I mainly drank beer, then I got a job in a hotel bar and suddenly had to learn all of the classic cocktails! So Negronis, Martinis, Manhattans etc was a big change for me, so at first I just thought I didn't like them. Most bars also kept their vermouth on the shelf and I've seen a few shaken Martinis haha. The first sweet vermouth I bought was Antica Formula, and it has quite a bold flavour, so on top of the bitterness from Campari it was actually horrible for me haha. Fast forward a few years and I've got 3 bottles of Cocchi (di Torino, Extra Dry & Americano) and I can appreciate a good Negroni or Martini. I'm glad I didn't write the whole category off! Getting into cocktails led me down the Rum rabbit hole but I try to make a variety of drinks at home - I had a lovely Martinez last week with Kyrö Gin and Cocchi di Torino 😊 Thanks for breaking it down simply, I needed a refresher and now I have a few ideas for lunch time drinks, cheers!
Very informative, cocchi di torrino is my go to for Manhattons, but I have found the longer its open the more bitter it tastes. 250ml cans sound perfect.
I don't like wine, so I'm not a big vermouth drinker. But a high quality vermouth, like a Cocchi di Torino, makes some some fantastic cocktails, and even paired with campari and soda it is delicious
Steve you may be surprised to see me here, but I am very fond of Vermouth. Although I am not keen on the UK versions, I have sampled. There is a massive omission here, the best way to serve Vermouth is without question as part of a Martini. Either Vodka based or Gin based and never shaken. Personally, I also enjoy using Agricole Blanc in a Martini, but that's not exactly mainstream.
Ummm, G... I think the only massive omission is you skipping half the video! 😂 From recollection, the Martini Cocktail was mentioned 3 times. BUT, as I said probably a dozen times, the focus of the video is Pubs/Bars...not proper Cocktail Bars. And I don't know about you, but I rarely ever see a Martini being served up outside of a Top Hotel bar, swanky Mixo Bar... So the whole point of the video IMO was nailed! 👍️
But then I would never, order a Martini anywhere except a top-class cocktail bar. I enjoy a well-made, very dry Vodka Martini, so why would I want to order a badly made Martini in some cheap boozer?
Honestly your just embarrassing yourself with your comments. He never once suggested you order a martini from a cheap boozer. Trying watching the video before connecting
Hi this is off topic to this video but u have a better knowledge than me I baught my dad havana 7 year old for Christmas and he liked it and I see supermarkets are limited to dark rum in the uk so was wondering what are the best places to buy from online as i would imagine there's so dodgy sites out there and what dark rums would u recommend that are low alcohol probably 40 to 45 max that won't break the bank but are a step up from supermarkets ones like havana 7 that are just good all rounders great neat and great with coke possibly around £50 or under what's your favourite sites and rums
Yeah. Echo David. Check out MoM. Also don’t get caught up in the Dark Rum trap. Whenever I talk about Dark Rum. It is what I’d deem as proper. As in the colour has come about by rapid aging in heavily Charred Barrels. HOWEVER, taking mass market into account, most people are referring to Aged Rum when they say Dark. They are 2 very different thing. To use your example, Havana 7 is an AGED rum. It’s not a Dark Rum. There aren’t that many Dark Rums in the Market. The buggies; Planteray OD and OFTD, Worthy Park 109, Goslings, Woods, Myers (sort of), Skipper, OVD and Bounty Dark. Can’t think of any others off the top of my head, but I’m probably missing 2-3. (That’s not Inc the UK guys like Goldstone and Dropworks who both do a Dark Rum).
@StevetheBarmanUK OK as I'm thinking off maybe getting sommet that bit better than havana 7 for my dad for Christmas he likes his navy rum at Christmas usually he only buys cheap ones beucase off money but he has had the likes off captain morgans in the past and I baught him havana 7 last time and he thought it was alright buying online need to make sure am buying from legit places I see u mention about master off malt I will probably be looking for something decent but sommet that won't break the bank but with a low pecant off around 40 to 45 will hafto check out some u mention I don't really know anything about rum tbh I just know my dad likes it for Christmas time
@@StevetheBarmanUK is there mucth difference taste wise between dark rum and aged rums I'm guessing theremfarely similar is aged rums different to gold rums would my dad usually only buys cheapies has had the likes off caption morgans in the past baught him havana 7 for Christmas and he like it I'm wondering what are some good rums dark or aged if there's not mucth difference between them that are a step up from havana 7 that are just good all rounders for neat sipping and mixing with coke that's not to high pecantage maybe 40 to 45 sommet like that that's not really expensive maybe around £50 max and some good places to buy from is this sommet u may do some vidoes on
My recommendation - avoid cheap Vermouth. It's garbage. Get good quality Vermouth and preferably in a smaller bottle and refrigerate! Fabulous Vermouth is lovely!

For me, you can easily substitute sweet vermouth + mild amaro for Punt Y Mes.

Gasp! A shaken martini is a sin. It looks so ugly and has a horrible mouth-feel.

Yeah, Cocchi is proper. Stick it in the Fridge 👍️

Lillet Blanc and Tonic with a slice of orange is a great lunch time tipple
Yup. AGREE 👍️
I don't consider Lillet as a vermouth. I think it's more of a aperitif.

Master of Malt is always good, The Whisky Exchange is also a good online shop. The descriptions on both sites with tasting notes are very helpful 🙂

I often drink dolin vermouth it’s usually about 13 quid. I’m sure this vault stuff is nice but at 2 and a half times the price, I’m not sure.
