I take your point (that the Noah story is just silly). However, snakes are mostly beneficial to humans by keeping the populations of other animals in check. We need rats for medical research and fruit flies for genetic research. And that is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of anthropogenic benefits of theses animals. They all have their roles in the natural ecology. It is mostly the fault of humans that these animals become pests (because we spread them outside of their natural habitats and we create circumstances under which their populations become many orders of magnitude larger than what they would be without us).
When I was a child the frist time I wonder if there wasn't a serious problem with the Christian god was when I seen art work depicting the flood, all those frighten people trying to save not only their lives but those of their children. I take your point (that the Noah story is just silly). However, snakes are mostly beneficial to humans by keeping the populations of other animals in check. We need rats for medical research and fruit flies for genetic research. And that is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of anthropogenic benefits of theses animals. They all have their roles in the natural ecology. It is mostly the fault of humans that these animals become pests (because we spread them outside of their natural habitats and we create circumstances under which their populations become many orders of magnitude larger than what they would be without us).

When I was a child the frist time I wonder if there wasn't a serious problem with the Christian god was when I seen art work depicting the flood, all those frighten people trying to save not only their lives but those of their children.
This is one of the best videos I've seen that gives reason to consider the biblical god a monster, it cuts through any lingering argument about the wicked people and such, and it moved me deeply.
