I think the credit to keep our old military equipment working goes to our defence personnel. We do make some of the best engineers in the world!
A British aircraft carrier breaking down is strange as the Indian Navy had operated 2 ex British aircraft carriers in the past (Vikrant and Viraat)

Those were in the hands of Indians and not current day brits
One thing I can say for sure that our armed forces are best in The world in terms of maintaining and operating any kind of system

We should still wait and see the performance of Vikrant before placing order of another aircraft carrier. Its important we straighten out our preferences first and then make one. Rather than making one and then modifying it heavily.
Although again 2 aircraft carriers on each front at a time is a wonderful idea but considering how INS Vikramaditya demands maintenance navy would be adamant on third aircraft carrier.
It would be better if Navy instead procures more landing platforms with STOBAR capabilities.

I feel having more ballistic and cruise missiles will be more useful and practical, Both Economically and Practically.
the aircraft carriers are more for a "show force" type of use, also since India normally has a Defensive or Neutral Stance we don't really need another aircraft carrier, right now at least.

In fact there seems to be lot of "double standards" In our country as views of certain people are concerned about, that the defence equipments of certain countries origin are supposed to be "useless, junk, worthless" etc Even inspite of Indian armed forces having had good combat record with those equipments ,whereas equipments from few other countries origin are supposed to be of 24 karat gold standards with no flaws in it and if we have those countries origin equipments then victory in war is supposedly automatically guaranteed.
Even "brahamos" Is supposed to be a junk because it got accidentally fired and entered Pakistan and travelled 300 kilometers deep inside Pakistan without being detected and it failed to hit anything in Pakistan😄😄

INS Viktamaditya was not built as an aircraft carrier but as a missile cruiser cum helicopter carrier. In other words it was meant for anti ship and anti submarine operation not as an aircraft carrier.
It was facing problem with the boiler and was mothballed shortly after its manufacture and hoodwinked India into buying a missile cruiser as an aircraft carrier.
Way forward for India is to order another one or two Vikrant class aircraft carrier modified to operate as LPD and aircraft carrier instead of 4 LPDs and one large aircraft carrier.

Carriers should not be made for only one type pf Jets .INDIAN navy got lucky that FA18 can be used from Vikrant ,otherwise it was purely made for mig 29. And i still think twin island design is the worst design for an Carrier. If even one island gets destroyed ,that carrier can be sunk any time ,its dosent matter 1 island or n number of island.

INS Vikrant will tell us about our optimization and technology. It's a proud moment for us. If it can serve the purpose on low maintenance then it will be a big asset because then using the same technology we can make one more Aircraft Carrier because the maintenance of an aircraft carrier takes at least 5 to 6 months and we need to have at least 2 aircraft carriers deployed in the Indian waters.

The electric propulsion system which Indian Navy ⚓ is currently evaluating for INS Vishal will not be able to power EMALS based CATOBAR system, Electromagnetic Railgun at the same time sustain a speed of 32knots in high seas with all sensors and ancillary operations on. Look Gerald R Ford with 2x700 MW of power produced by A1B Bechtel is insufficient to power every systems and face frequent blackout in GRF. How will electric propulsion do it for Vishal?
You can skip the railguns it's a unworkable idea. EMALS takes a surprisingly small amount of electricity. It's actually far more efficient than steam. The A1B reactor is the most powerful naval reactor in history and works flawlessly. Power is power electric or steam. The critical questtion is where the electricity is coming from and the power of the motors. Westinghouse already builds motors that match the horsepower the steam turbines of the USS Gerald R Ford so that's doable.

The only benefit that nuclear aircraft carrier seem to provide is that it seems to need virtually no refueling but there is a catch, neither the aircraft on the carrier nor the crew are nuclear powered which means it has to be refueled with the fuel for the aircrafts and supplies for the crew/seamen.

One note to remember. Our vikramditya never left the indian costal area. It was only deployed to colombo port en route to our Eastern coast. But British aircraft carrier was already deployed to indian ocean and indo Pacific area. Our soviet time aircraft carrier has major issues with engine. Russian engines are not reliable. You mark my words our vikrat is going to be deployed in south indian ocean region 3000/4000 km away from our costal area frequently and it will provide service to the nation than this Russian ship.
