Great selections! I’m a massive golf fan, so I love the Bobby Jones and Golden Bear cards. I don’t really pick a camp when it comes to the GOAT. Jack was before my time, but as a fellow Ohioan, I’m a huge fan. He was leaps and bounds above the field in his prime and his major record will never be broken. However, I was introduced to the game on a Sunday afternoon in April 1997 at my step grandparents house, as an impressionable 11 year old. The entire house of white men, ranging from late 20s to late 70s, were all captivated by this young black golfer. It was remarkable to witness. I was pulled right in. Needless to say, I have followed Tiger’s career about as closely as one can follow a golfer. I once delayed a scheduled work trip for myself and my crew of 5 for an entire day so I could watch the Monday playoff between Tiger and Rocco in the 2008 US Open. I imagine if Bobby Jones had solely focused on golf and turned pro at an early age, he would have all the records. Jack made the news recently by stating that Bobby was better than he and Tiger. I think that tells us right there who the real 🐐 is.
@@sammyhill93 great stuff, Sam! I worked at a driving range and mini golf course for four summers from 1998-2001 and was a huge golf fan during Tiger’s prime.
@@JunkWaxHero that’s pretty cool! Great time to be around the game of golf heavily like that. He was so good during that timeframe, that several year stretch will never be replicated.
Love the Sayers RC! That's a great set, it has Bob Hayes and also Dick Butkus RCs! *cool side note, the 1966 and 1967 Philly Gale Sayers have the same exact photo! Also, and I am not 100% sure, but I think O-Pee-Chee was cut with Wire, opposed to Topps and a Paper Cutter. The Wire often left jagged edges. You can see some of the higher grades have a lot of 'fuzzy edges.' Your next five.. hmm.. Hulk Hogan or Ricky Ponting! lol
Hate to admit my age but Gale Sayers & Dick Butkus were my favorite football players back then & yes I watched them live. Gale Salers was the most electric runner I ever saw. He could make the most amazing cuts. Better than Brian's song just watch some of his highlights on youtube or some other NFL old highlight reels. The Bears weren't all that good most of the time but being from the Midwest and for awhile in Chicago loved to watch those 2.
Several iconic cards from the sports. I love seeing the boxing and golf cards in the mix. I just picked up the Gale Sayers in a collection which looks to be a PSA 6. It was a nice suprise as I only thought there were baseball cards. There was also a 2nd and 3rd year Jim Brown card. In this small collection were 1957 Kaline and Drysdale as well 3 from each year 1960, 1961, and 1962 Mantles. So much more and all look to be PSA 3-5's
I love Mario, as a kid I would go watch him and Jagr at the igloo. I think O-pee-chee is French, I think that's why it's big amongst hockey cards, with all the French speaking Canadian cities. Just my guess tho. That's a cool Jack card also.
I would say the 81 Donruss Nicklaus is more iconic and easier to obtain. Loving your list so far! Please don’t include Caitlin Clark! I know you’re a fan, but I don’t get the hype!
Been doing something similar and still want a Lemieux. Besides rookies, have also been trying to get one on card autograph of these players. Some will be impossible though from the vintage era.
Hi Mike, this has been fun to watch. I am looking forward to seeing the top 10. I'm curious to see where some of all-time great land in the series. Thanks for sharing.
I like the 5 per!!! I didn't know Lemieux was that big of card. I have an autographed version my friend gave me somewhere. If you watch Brian's Song you better have a box of tissues or a towel, you've been warned!!
Hockey is special! 😂 You should go to a Bruins game or a college hockey game like Boston College. I like the black and white Bobby Jones card better with the action shot.
Speaking of great sports movies, I highly recommend the 2004 film, “Stroke of Genius.” It’s the story of Bobby Jones, very good. I remember watching “Brian’s Song” in a high school English class, very moving.
Good series, 5 cards at a time works. Just be prepared and ready to show card 😂. Watch Brian’s Song, best football movie. I did a video at Brian Piccolo park, he’s from South Florida
Lemieux rookies are a severe headache there are so many good fakes out there beware even the seasoned collector can get hosed on raw examples. You can get a decent Sayers around a 6 for $400 as of late
I'm so glad you got a Sayers RC! It's a card everybody should have and he's got a great story - actually they all do here. Obtaining a Mario Lemeaux RC had been a childhood dream of mince since I first saw the card in 1985. Its in my top 3 all-time favorite hockey cards behind the 1958 Topps Bobby Hull and 79 Topps Wayne Gretzky. Imagine a healthy Mario Lemeaux? So if it weren't for Bobby Jones, Francis Ouimet would have won more Championships. Both Ouimet and Jones are in the 1931 Churchman Men of the Moment set. It's crazy that Bobby Jones has a number of cards from across the pond, and one from America? Jones went pro in 1932 and joined the Army Air Corps in WWII. His life didn't end well, but he had an incredible life and was highly accomplished. I'm also really glad you got a card of The Brown Bomber Joe Louis! His 1935 Mitchell's Cigarettes is an awesome card too! His fights with Max Schmeling were legendary. The two didn't like each other when they fought, but Max paid for Joe's funeral. Joe was really destitute at the end and fot a job working for Jack Dempsey's Restaurant as a doorman or something. I didn't like Schmelling either until I found out he was hiding Jewish children in WWII and Ole Adolph sent him to the front lines for it.This is an excellent list.
What do you think of these selections?
Oh Mike, you need to see Brian's Song! It is so good! (I like the selections and the Sayers card too).

It’s true about it being Canadian, but a lot of collectors assume it’s more scarce because other OPC issues are.

I will never probably own an OPCraw Gretzky or a 84 Donruss Mattingly. Fake-O-Rama. How would PSA and other companies know all the tricks?
O Pee Chee high grades are harder to get than Topps. O Pee Chee cardstock is less quality than their Topps counterparts hence doesn't hold up as well.
