This is incorrect/misleading information. The main purpose of the mask is not only to protect you but to protect others from you. Face shield doesn't get close to doing that simply because it doesn't catch anything other than the largest particles that we release while breathing and talking. Those large particles are already the most likely to fall on the ground in short distance. So face shield is practically useless unless you are in a hospital and people are sneezing at you. The effectiveness of the mask is, if everyone in the environment is wearing it, collectively the shared space becomes orders of magnitude less contaminated than it could've been without it. Additional filtering on the in breath is only a slight bonus, not the main goal.

I have asthma and wore the face mask and ended up having a panic attack and getting claustrophobia every time I wore it. i was taking more hits off of my inhaler because I had a hard time breathing with it. I bought a face shield the other day and had no panic attack and could breath. For me this is the best option and I am sure like many others who have the same issues are doing this instead of going outside without anything at all.
I was thinking of this. It might even be some form of protection for people who have trouble with the mask because it abstracts division towards your nose. I am visually impaired and because of this issue it’s been hard to feel comfortable walking with a mask. Maybe this is something.
I wear a visor everyday at work because masks were triggering asthma attacks for me. But visors are only effective if someone walks up to you and directly coughs of sneezes in your face.. I've been ill 3 times this winter despite wearing my visor correctly, everyday because, as said here, smaller particles still manage to move around the visor.. I really wish I could wear a mask

I hope more people read your comment, because so many people (and horrible media) have this as a one way protection only. I have seen studies where even a handkerchief/homemade mask is around 30% effective against droplets that are .1 micron in size (i.e. Coronvirus). Not an amazing number, but I will take that along with preventing my droplets from going all over the place.

Mask + face shield provides greater protection. Eyes need protection also. I am a CT tech, I have been using my own face shield [patent pending] in close range with covid patients without N95. Nurses and Coworkers were impressed by my product. ;)
Face coverings are literally just pieces of fabric that cover your nose and mouth. There's no way that they cause any issues at all. Everyone says that face masks work. You could potentially save one or more people's lives. And if they don't actually work? Oh no, you were inconvenienced with wearing a piece of cloth over your mouth for a couple hours. Boo hoo. It's not that big of a deal.
Am I the only one having problems with masks and shields. I live in the Philippines and we're reqired to wear both if we want to go shopping. But I'll be honest - Philippine walkways are not the smoothest. There are many potholes, pipes and many other obstacles that a pededtrian must watch out for. But the mask and shield has created a blind spot that I am not always able to detect these obstacles. Twice this week I've had 2 BAD falls causing such a scene that gathered crowds. I have skin scrapes, bruises and now a wrist in a cast. Masks and shields are creating a health risk!
In a real world environment, droplets don't always travel a straight line. Depending on air circulation direction, wind, humidity and body movement, droplets can come in contact from all directions. Face shield alone isn't good enough.

I almost passed out the other day. I had only had the mask on for a few minutes. Masks are not new to me. Been wearing them when traveling or going to large gatherings for about 7 years. Now can’t keep it on for more than 10 minutes.

I saw shields at CVS for 3 or 4 dollars. They seem to be reusable, just wash w soap or mild cleanser on the clear part.

@@justletters7230 Honestly the narrative/claim being pushed that masks offer you no protection and its only to prevent others from being infected is mostly why so many people in the US are refusing to wear masks.
Even in countries like Japan people aren't wearing masks to "protect others" they're concerned about contracting it and that is their reason for masking up.
@@Blackmage4001 Yeah, but have you been to Japan? I really liked Japan and Korea, there sense of community is strong, here is much more about the individual. They are disciplined. And contact tracing is not some horrible government conspiracy I keep hearing about here, yet all these people play the ignorant game on what google, twitter, facebook, their credit card company, etc. keep track of. Masks, tracing, and strict isolation/quarantine for positive tests seemed to do well by those countries implementing. Part of me also thinks a virus will run its course, in particular with the society we have and the best we can do is follow protocol, but provide particular focus to the most impacted groups (seniors/over 60 and anyone with severe underlying symptoms), yet today's government still has not committed to appropriate precautions for these groups. I also like how the media pushes the Spanish Flu and makes no mention of the much more relevant Hong Kong Flu of 1968. The same government back then took care of the elderly and educated people instead of using the "scared straight" technique, then again friends remind me of how we function and make me ponder that education will not work, so you have to scare 'em. Sad. Well, I don't say "Stay safe" that should be a given, I say Stay Sane!

Mask + face shield provides greater protection. Eyes need protection also. I am a CT tech, I have been using my own face shield [patent pending] in close range with covid patients without N95. Nurses and Coworkers were impressed by my product. ;)

Face coverings are literally just pieces of fabric that cover your nose and mouth. There's no way that they cause any issues at all. Everyone says that face masks work. You could potentially save one or more people's lives. And if they don't actually work? Oh no, you were inconvenienced with wearing a piece of cloth over your mouth for a couple hours. Boo hoo. It's not that big of a deal.

Am I the only one having problems with masks and shields. I live in the Philippines and we're reqired to wear both if we want to go shopping. But I'll be honest - Philippine walkways are not the smoothest. There are many potholes, pipes and many other obstacles that a pededtrian must watch out for. But the mask and shield has created a blind spot that I am not always able to detect these obstacles. Twice this week I've had 2 BAD falls causing such a scene that gathered crowds. I have skin scrapes, bruises and now a wrist in a cast. Masks and shields are creating a health risk!

In a real world environment, droplets don't always travel a straight line. Depending on air circulation direction, wind, humidity and body movement, droplets can come in contact from all directions. Face shield alone isn't good enough.

I almost passed out the other day. I had only had the mask on for a few minutes. Masks are not new to me. Been wearing them when traveling or going to large gatherings for about 7 years. Now can’t keep it on for more than 10 minutes.

I'm sorry they're making you pass out, i don't know how often you must go outside, but I think the only way to avoid passing out from masks is try to stay in as much as you can (of course unless you HAVE o go outside) also I really hope you have someone with you whenever this happens :((

@@Nana-zi9xq How does a mask make you pass out? I mow my entire yard with a mask on fine and infact it makes it easier for me to breath as it keeps out pollen, the only thing I do differently is I leave a 1 second gap between breathing in and out so the air circulates.
