Draisaitl also broke a playoffs record last season by giving 4 assists in a period.
Oilers D is pathetic, and that`s an issue as it looked solidified at the end of the regular season. Draisaitl is playing sensational, he was so good at the end of the RS and transferred it into the playoffs. But where is the rest of his team? Kane, RNH, Hyman? Yamamoto scroed in one playoff game so far. Foeggele has 1 assist.
As soon as the playoffs started, secondary scoring has vanished, as defensive stability and goaltending. The Oilers look a lot like the team they have been before the deadline and the years before.
Vegas might be to strong for them, they are a very sound playoffs team and a legit contender this year.
Desharnais is brutal for us every game. Every single game. He costs us so many goals and games for that matter.
Seriously. He's the only guy on your roster who's clearly not up to NHL level but it's still crazy how bad just one lower quality player is hurting your team.

Oilers fan here. VGK just showed up, plain and simple. First period, only 3 SOG, with Kane, Hyman & Nuge being passengers in this game? Unforgivable. Leon made it closer than it was, honestly.
The whole team looked sluggish until the 3rd period where they played with desperation. I'm hoping game 2 will bring some heat to tie up the series.

@Mcpishica r exactly right. VGK’s depth far exceeds Oiler’s. No doubt about that. Just look at distribution of goals and minutes.
@Mcpishica r yeah I just disagree.. I think McD and Drai are just very very good players.. This year, oilers have had a much better well-rounded output from their other lines.. It just isn't the same as previous years... RNH is over 100 points this year for example...
Now, are there teams that are better well-rounded? Absolutely! Oilers are definitely a bit top-heavy, but that doesn't mean they don't have depth.. If McD and Drai were the only players on the ice, Oilers wouldn't be in the playoffs.. You can't just slap them with all the success

Great breakdown! As an Oilers fan it sucks to admit that we didn’t deserve this game but it’s true. I felt like we had our moments and had that pressure on at times but gave it right back to Vegas after and also let them keep it for awhile. Desharnais has struggled in the playoffs and it continued here with some very sloppy plays. Our defense backed up the whole night while Vegas always had a man on us. Skinner didn’t play the best but those chances can’t happen regardless. It also felt like our forwards saw what Mcdavid and Drai were doing and thought they could pull it off too. Too many pretty play attempts instead of just dumping the puck in and battling out. I’d like to believe we had a really good chance to tie it at the end aswell, that penalty was just the final strike. I find ways to hate on every team but Vegas hasn’t given me a thing. The played a great game. The Oilers weren’t on their 100% game they’ve proved they can play.. Just Mcdavid and Draisaitl were. Hopefully we find that energy in game 2.
As a Knights fan I like seeing comments like this. Oilers might not have had their best all around game, but damn they scared me the entire time. I'm surprised guys like Hyman and Kane looked so flat footed, but I don't expect that to last. Skinner wasn't great in the first, but he made some pretty big stops against us in the second. That game honestly could've gone either way. Looking forward to game 2
Thanks for giving some credit to the Knights. I see alot of blame being tossed around by Oilers fans and not alot about how well the Knights actually played. Other than a couple stupid penalties, they played almost perfect. I think were in for a really good series.
@@timshady7099 Us Oilers fans(hockey fans in general pretty much) love to make excuses. Saw that alot during the LA series. Mistakes we make doesn’t take away from the Knights skill. The Oilers didn’t play the best game but the Knights didn’t play bad either, you guys showed up to play! I’m obviously biased to the Oilers and I expect the same from Knights fans but to ignore the pure skill of The Knights is delusional. I’m typing this during Game 2 and it’s currently 5-0 Oil. My opinion hasn’t changed. Oilers showed up, Knights didn’t. Now it’s all about who shows up in Game 3. The Knights are a fun team to watch, I’m excited for the rest of the series. Just hope everyone can enjoy the amazing hockey the playoffs have brought this year!

@@Michael-uu7zq Pretty much at the end of the game, three stars of the game are announced. Usually the home team gets favoritism, but it’s also a way of honoring someone on the other team for having a great game.
#1 star should have been Draisaitl for getting four goals. But he wasn’t any of the three.

McDavid banked it off the goalie's back twice this year. This was Draisaitl's first time doing it. There's a certain angle of this shot where you can see Drai's face as he shoots the puck. I swear he's thinking eh, why not try it too? These guys are brilliant and once the rest of the team settles back into their game, they will be unstoppable.
They looked like they were enjoyed their California trip a bit too much.They didn't get it going until Vegas was up 5-3.
Oilers just flat out didn't show up tonight. The mistakes they made were super costly against a team that's amazing at capitalizing on those chances. On the bright side, I thought Stuart Skinner looked very good despite letting in 5.

The Oiler's are really gonna have to crack down on defence in game 2. Tbh I think Mcdavid has a long way to go there as well, even though he's improved a lot.

Oilers fan here. We have lost every single game 1 but then we would go on to win all the rounds except Colorado. I don't think it's really a concern. I agree with people saying that Desharnais is brutal for us. He always cost us goals in these crucial playoff games

Draisaitl deserves a much better defense! If you’re not an Oilers-fan then their games are quite entertaining with a lot of goals, though.

I saw the cross check on Stone and thought if such a thing was reviewable - in light of the fact in was after the goal, and he's had 2 back surgeries - if the NHL Committee for player safety truly values player safety, I think a 1 game suspension might be considered. Also, was there ever a time in NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, which I've watched for 60 years [I'm 69], when in 2 games in 2 nights, 2 players each scored 4 goals. That blew my mind - both were excellent. Pavelski tipping them out of the air - and in his first game back after injury - WOW. And Draisaitl sharp shooting and in the right spot at the right time - just great. P.S. you and others might have looked more closely than I, but it looked to me like the puck didn't make it up to his head but was off the back of the shoulders, not that it matters - it was pristine!
Leon with the puck on his stick in the offensive end is the most dangerous thing in hockey.
Draisatl was the only player who showed up last night. Don't know if the knights can score 6 every game though but I'm here for it if they do.

I think what makes it look like a classic Draisaitl move is not the fact it went in from the goalies head, which McDavid did not a long time ago but the fact he is standing still and just sniped it form behind the goal line.

Still, I agree that the eye-test says he's forgotten that he's the best, fastest player on the ice. But the eye-test is what it is; all other metrics say he's still playing a dominant game, and other players are getting more space because of the attention he's earned.

Someday,goalies will learn again how to stand up to stop pucks.All these terrible goals that go in from impossible angles would have been stopped in the past because goalies all didn't play like 5 year olds,on their knees constantly. Goalies had different unique styles then but now just scout one and they all play the same.I was a goalie and these goals now make me cringe and angry.
I said it once and I’ll say it again: Draisaitl is the better than McDavid when it actually matters. Sure, McDavid does wonders in the regular season, but Draisaitl proves himself even more valuable in games like these. He deserves a better team, because the Oilers aren’t going to win him a cup.

According to the commentator last night, the only person on planet earth that can do that is McDavid. No one else but him can do it. McDavid is the only one who can make a shot like that because he's the greatest player. McDavid is the reason that cats meow. If someone else made a shot even similar to that, it's because McDavid let them do it. The commentators also made a big deal about how McDavid was so much better than Eichel leading up to and during the entire game, yet they didn't get excited at all when Eichel poke checked McHeaven and sent the puck down ice for the go ahead goal, it lead to McJesus's loss and crickets from them...

As a Kraken fan, even if we beat Dallas, I think we’re going to lose to the Oilers or the Knights. Both teams are very good offensively, and especially the Drisidil/McDavid combo is very impressive. They are very skilled at cracking through a defensive line and goalie at even their best. Both these teams are good. Either one could take it. I think Oilers can pick up the pace and make it happen, but will they? Not sure.
Amazing achievement to score four goals, but tainted by the fact that he was only plus one. Hard to score your way to wins without defence, especially in the playoffs,

I've been telling people top-heavy teams won't promise you a championship. Draisaitl is a good goal scorer but it's meaningless when you're down in the series.

Edmonton's defense is doo doo and the reason they won't be in the Cup. Probably won't even Win this series. Golden Knights defense is much better. I want to see Edmonton move on but they've had a doo doo defense for years in my opinion and it feels like they still haven't improved it or gotten the right the players. I hope I'm wrong because I don't like the Golden Knights. I'm not a big Vegas fan. I'm a hater of new franchises especially since both Vegas and Seattle have done great as if they have stacked teams because of being new franchises. Heck, even the Jets have had some success but at the same time not as much. Kraken even being much newer then the Jets look like that organization is ran a lot better.
The Kings played a pretty good game and the Oilers playing like shit still almost came back, I expect the Oilers will win this series in 6.

correction: this was the first time Leon banked a goal of a goalie. McDavid did it at least twice this year. so if anything it was a McDavid type goal.
I honestly think lost of draisaitl’s success comes in part since the other team is so preoccupied with covering McDavid that he is alsmot forgotten about. If he was the big spotlight, he’d have way more d on him.
