    Spectacular. Reminds me of the (now closed) airstrip on Santo Antao (Cabo Verde Islands) at Ponta do Sol. Similar length, and location by the sea on a cliff, next to high mountains. Arrived there once in a Twin Otter.

    The pilot is so pretentious. He only uses half the runway. How cool. "I only need 200 meters."

    haha, it's very safe! The boat trip is very rough.... seasickness...... So we took the flight to Saba! Very special experience! And the retour price is not much more!

    Gotta love the Twin Otter . It's a good thing this runway favors the trades too .
    I've been on DH-6s in some tight places like Walker's Cay in the Bahamas and the STOL performance of these and the Islanders are really needed .

    Oh I know it's safe, but my wifes uncle lived on Saba and was a pilot. One day his landing was long and went over the end, then he crawled back up and into a bar and never came out.

    I wouldn't be so sure :D even with the twin otter this one is a challenge and though I don't know much about the AN-2, I doub't its stopping abilities are quite at twotter's level, being an old taildragger and all. Could be wrong :P

    • @mtspp5801
      @mtspp5801 8 років тому +3

      +Mark Gorney They do. I lived on the island for a year, and the way you knew the plane was close to landing is they'd start the fire engine.

    • @mtspp5801
      @mtspp5801 8 років тому +1

      In case of a crash, I suppose. All airports have fire crews, Saba's was just smaller. They had a proper fire department elsewhere on the island as well.

    • @mtspp5801

      Mostly rocks but a couple small places to swim, coves and off the main pier. One beach that comes in and out with the seasons. People would say, "The beach is back." It's a beautiful place with nice people who live there.

    Take off and landing is possible on this runaway, because of the strong headwind! Like in this video: ua-cam.com/video/SmzhwQ_YRPU/v-deo.html . Runaway is in open sea, so there is all the time strong winds, this is why probably authorities permit to use this runaway :)

      +hermenegildo bugalho Landing & T.O. were using the upwind side of runway judging from the correction needed at liftoff. Plus the dude with the camera has to be on a pretty good hill which must be mighty close to right side of runway. Didn't taxi far enough to worry about centerline.

    What kind of stupid question is that? The runway is less than 2000ft. Of course not. And even if it could with an insane 100kt headwind it could never takeoff again.
