JUNGLE CACTUS 101: Facts, Care & Tour of My Epiphytic Cactus Collection!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 жов 2024
- A long-overdue exploration of epiphytic cacti: where they’re found (both in their native habitats AND in the plant taxonomic system), what characteristics they share, and how my collection is growing in my home!
*DISCLAIMER! I am in no way an expert in the topic of jungle cacti taxonomy... the numbers of species in each of the genera I talk about in this video is contested and has changed frequently over the years. For example, estimates of unique published rhipsalis species range between 35 and 43 accepted species, depending on the source. Many times, plants have been reclassified into subspecies, some numerous times. I went with the high estimate, but I certainly could be wrong. If you’ve done any research (web or peer-reviewed 😉) on either the Hylocereeae or Rhipsalideae tribes, please share what you’ve found out in the comments!

Love Rhipsalis and jungle cactus varieties, thanks for sharing
As a biology teacher and fellow geek, I am impressed with your knowledge of taxonomy! Great video and collection!🌿
So glad you enjoyed it! Geeks are most welcome here. 💚😀
Watching this plant tour is both therapeutic and bad bad for my bank account. Thank you!
Finally, a fellow jungle cacti enthusiast! I love your videos about jungle cacti as they are very informational. I had no idea that there were so many different types of rhipsalis. Great job with this video!
Good afternoon, The Leafy Geek. this is a exceptionally diverse video. thank. :)
Great video! Now I have more plants on my wishlist lol
Thank you for sharing your
researchers and knowledge
🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗
Thank you for coming by and checking out the channel!
You can tell that you really like these cacti. You teach well. I really enjoyed this videos it spoke to the plant geek in me! Thank you and keep up the great work.
Thank you! Can't get enough of those jungley type cacti. 😂 Thanks for the kind words!
Hello, hope you are well ,very beautiful videous and very informative, love love love your cactus collection 😍😘😗😙😚🤗
Super informative video! Loved it!
I like how you explain things and I like your editing. Great video. After watching Summer Rayne's 365 days of plants, I know she also has a LOT of these.
I've been trying to get that damn IKEA shelf but it's always sold out where I am!
Jill Zwaanstra I broke down and paid for home delivery 😬
The Leafy Geek I will be victorious but might have to settle for the black version 😂
I love them.Thanks
Glad I found this video! I love epiphyllum cacti and it's tough to find information about them! I bought a few plants that were only labeled "succulents" at the garden center, and I'm still trying to identify them -- this video helped quite a bit! Thank you SO much for sharing! :-)
great video! got my first rhipsalis a couple of weeks ago, labeled burchelli, but doesn’t look like most images i see of that one-perhaps a variantt. repotted today in an airier mix, similar to your description (thanks for the comfirmation) anyway this was fun to see and i look forward to watching my newbie grow this summer!
Great job!
Just bought pseudo rhipsalis. What soil mix should I give it? Something like a chunky aroid type? I'm new to jungle cactus ✌️
I’d say yes, err on the side of chunky. Most of these dudes are epiphytic and do well in a bark-heavy mix.
Thank you for the video. Do you have a shop? Would love to have some of your gems.
I actually haven’t gotten into selling (or even trading really, yet)... just an enthusiast and a collector!
Geek leaf lol. Nice name for a certain plant.
I just got rhipsalis from a local home depo for 2 euros. Some of the leaves are completely dry or brown. Hopefully it will recover soon.
You may have to do a little pruning of the stuff that is completely dry, but rhipsalis likes to regrow and responds pretty well to pruning!
I'm a huge fan of how nerdy you are with your plants!! So much information. I too like to research my plants I add to my collection but you have taken your enthusiasm for jungle cacti to a level I have never ever ever gone. lol I learned some things about the few rhipsalis species I have and would love to add more to my collection eventually. Thanks for this great video and for sharing your love of plants!
can you pot cacti plants in the same pot with the Christmas cactus plant? thank you!
I wouldn’t pot arid/desert cacti with jungle cacti, as they grow in different climates and have different care needs. But planting rhipsalis with holiday cacti (schlumbergera) is probably okay. Just use a chunky epiphyte mix!
is Rhipsalis fast grower?
Given the right conditions, yes (like any plant!) ... my rhipsalis that get a lot of humidity and bright indirect light do exceptionally well!
@@TheLeafyGeek that's sound promising. keen to get one soon.Thanks.
love them, better then cactus. they dont bite you
😂😂😂
