in this case, i tie the string (thin rope) around the melon stem to grow up to the top we need. It is fine to do this. And melon can grow up to the top by their vines, but it will fall down whenever it have wind.
I plant melon only 25 day. They produce flower. So if your melon is 3 months without flower it is very serious problem. Melon need sunlight, good soil, no diseases...

i mean the sucker that we want to keep for fruit. The sucker will grow very fast in 2 or 3 days next. Those sucker we keep only 2 leaves and other leaves( 3,4..) we cut on the middle leaves of 2nd and 3rd.

8,9,10 keep to select fruit. For example if I choose 9. This number 9 will grow with many of leaves,1.2.3.4.5..,we cut leaf out by number 3. Keep 1 and 2 with 1 fruit.
Sweet melons grow male flowers on the main stem and female ones not the side branches. So you need to leave two to three side branched for fruits. But you don't want the very beginning side branches because they will negative effect plant growth. Also you don't want way too high side branches because they cannot get enough nutrition for fruiting.
