So my fiancée was Tessa's handler this weekend, and we both made it clear that as someone running sound, if she needed anything to just call out for it, especially since this was an unscheduled panel. Unfortunately I wasn't in the room when Tessa asked to tweak the mics (another panel room required my attention at the time) which is why there was a bit of confusion there near the beginning. Stealthy changes happened afterwards. That ballroom is naturally very reverberant, and the speakers were pointed away from the stage. I've made a note to try and arrange a monitor near the stage for next time.
