    That is insane! When i went to Luang Prabang over 10 years ago you had to go by bus down the windiest sketchiest roads to get there. 2 hours? I remember it being over 7! Crazy how much has changed in a short time.

    Hmmn, I am curious, when you say that Laos is in 'debt trap' to China, are you saying that your country or other Western countries or any global institutions like IMF and the World Bank will give interest-free / super low interest loans to poor countries like Laos with zero strings attached?
    Many other renowned economists have taken pains to point out the lies that western countries have smeared Chinese loans. I would suggest that perhaps you get some education and read more widely before throwing in misleading phrases like 'debt trap' to your vlogs. Be safe.

    A bit of economics about this railroad which is owned and operated by the Laos-China Railway company or LCR. Laos and China have 30% and 70% equity respectively in LCR but only put in 40% of the $6B as startup funding into the company. The rest of 60% is borrowed money. So, Laos paid $0.72B, China paid $1.68B, banks lent $3.6B. The project needs to service this $3.6B debt through passenger ticket price and freight fees, plus food sales and concessions. Because it's a BOT project, LCR operates it for 50 years and then transfer it to the Laos government free of charge.

    If you compare the videos of other Chinese high-speed rail stations, you will see that this Lao station meets the same standard, even newer and bigger. I don't know if it also incorporates the style of Lao architecture because it seems to have done more design work than many Chinese stations. When you mention the debt trap, I wonder if any country in the world would be willing to build a station of the same standard for Laos, with lower debt and lower price, with no political conditions attached, such as forcing the Lao government to accept Western political views?

    Laos and China's leaders agree to construct high speed rail. Laos is a not a rich country and could not have this type of rail without a loan. Everyone needs a loan when they do not have enough money to construct such a project for the benefit of the people. You rode on this train and seemingly ungrateful and unthankful for the experience you gain. Have you ever taken out a loan for a car, house or tuition? And you call it a debt trap?

    • @jamesgjurovich7893
      @jamesgjurovich7893 6 місяців тому +1

      it is a debt trap. look up the meaning of the phrase. Defining a Debt Trap
      A debt trap is when you spend more than you earn and borrow against your credit to facilitate that spending. While this can certainly be caused by unnecessary spending, having inadequate savings to handle unforeseen costs can also result in a debt trap.

      The train is a Chinese CR200 model, which is very old and not fast, but there is definitely no smoking on the train. The train is electrically powered and a fire would be catastrophic. So you'll see a lot of smokers on the train platforms or in the smoking rooms before the train starts.
      All bullet trains in China are non-smoking, only fuel trains you can smoke in the carriages. They are called green trains in China.
      I haven't seen those very outdated trains for over a decade, even the countryside has been replaced with old cr200 models.

    Infrastructure allows transportation. Transportation brings Commerce. Commerce creates Jobs. Jobs expands Economy. Economy growth requires Education. Higher education increases factor of production.
    America was built on its Rail Network.
    The U.K. was built on its Sea ways.
    Both of which were almost all funded by Debt (Bonds).
