That is insane! When i went to Luang Prabang over 10 years ago you had to go by bus down the windiest sketchiest roads to get there. 2 hours? I remember it being over 7! Crazy how much has changed in a short time.
因为老挝完全信任中国,所以铁路修建得非常快。

Hmmn, I am curious, when you say that Laos is in 'debt trap' to China, are you saying that your country or other Western countries or any global institutions like IMF and the World Bank will give interest-free / super low interest loans to poor countries like Laos with zero strings attached?
Many other renowned economists have taken pains to point out the lies that western countries have smeared Chinese loans. I would suggest that perhaps you get some education and read more widely before throwing in misleading phrases like 'debt trap' to your vlogs. Be safe.
He just like a parrot that repeat only other's words.
You said it all perfectly !

I was in Luang Prabang last October. It very quickly became one of my favourite places in the world.
What was so good about it? I ask as a potential visitor.
@@krnpowr It's a beautiful, relaxed town in a stunning location. Incredible temples, good food, great restaurants, lovely people, plenty to see and do in the area. Extremely cheap. I'm sure Zane will show at least some of that in his upcoming videos.
@@andybaker2456 I'm in Indonesia now
Absolutely. Was there 8 years ago for 4 nights with a friend and was mesmerized by it. Bringing the kids this summer (Koh Tao, Chiang Mai, Luang Prabang and Bangkok). They are young - 11 and 8 -- but hope they will enjoy the experience.
A bit of economics about this railroad which is owned and operated by the Laos-China Railway company or LCR. Laos and China have 30% and 70% equity respectively in LCR but only put in 40% of the $6B as startup funding into the company. The rest of 60% is borrowed money. So, Laos paid $0.72B, China paid $1.68B, banks lent $3.6B. The project needs to service this $3.6B debt through passenger ticket price and freight fees, plus food sales and concessions. Because it's a BOT project, LCR operates it for 50 years and then transfer it to the Laos government free of charge.
Good for everyone. Creates jobs for Lao people, transport goods to China, tourist increase because of ease of travel. Win win for everyone.
BUT 🇺🇸Uncle🇺🇸Sam🇺🇸 is VERY, VERY NOT HAPPY with this railway because it brought Laos Closer to China.

Wow Laos is amazing …. I should plan a visit
I’m so starved for good content that even a 25 minute video is not long enough for me. So guess you gotta make longer videos!! lol only kidding, I appreciate your vlogs, Zane
actaully, no need to apply booked QR from online booking to ticket, you can have Train officer checked that QR on your mobile for entering into station and train.
Policeman not allowing to stay close to train coz of their safety standard to passenger keep away from electric wire above train.
Have fun
Debt trap for future return....not debt trap for destruction like Ukraine.
Thanks for the lovely video👍hope you will come to China
Great video, couldn't expect less from you! 😊
$6 billion project and China paid for 70%… There is your answer to why there are so many banks in Vientiane. Foreign countries fighting over the future of Laos.
And 30% of the share is also China money that Laos borrow from China
California spent 11 billion for a useless railway bridge. Laos is getting a good deal I'd say.
Laos is gradually being ruled by China via hugh debt to china. Laos people do not know about this, so sad.
@@chairavee2763 No, Laotian government is not stupid. The Lao President went to school in China when he was young. China and Lao have a good relationship. China is investing in a partner for the future. Lao people will benefit and China will continue to be the big brother in the relationship.
@@chairavee2763 China holds huge amounts of US bonds, I wonder if China also dominates the US?
In the future China High speed train will be in Thailand also.
@@SKYBaal-ms6xw Vietnam from China high speed train also in the future.
Long, long time. Thailand is currently building a high-speed train from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima. There is just the new Vientiane Khamsavath Station for trains (metre gauge) from Nong Khai Station in Thailand.
Driving from Vientiane to Luang Prabang take more times, but the road pass through beautiful mountains and valleys too and you can stop along the way to see the countryside.
If you compare the videos of other Chinese high-speed rail stations, you will see that this Lao station meets the same standard, even newer and bigger. I don't know if it also incorporates the style of Lao architecture because it seems to have done more design work than many Chinese stations. When you mention the debt trap, I wonder if any country in the world would be willing to build a station of the same standard for Laos, with lower debt and lower price, with no political conditions attached, such as forcing the Lao government to accept Western political views?
Why would they? What or gov. that you know of do this to other Gov. just to improve their station in life? And name the last time this was done.
Laos is easy pickings. China owns all the mines now, 51 percent of the electric company, and has land consessions for agricultur eveywhere. The hospitals they built i the capatil are already in disaray and of poor quality. Ever lao national knows the score. Save your propaganda for CCgtn or other national chines news oitlets
Hilarious that you automatically equal debt to "trap".
Thanks for sharing your experience; visiting Laos next month and hoping to ride the train.
Thank you for visiting Laos and sharing your knowledge. Laos still has many more places to visit. Have a fun trip and hope you will visit again next time.
Laos and China's leaders agree to construct high speed rail. Laos is a not a rich country and could not have this type of rail without a loan. Everyone needs a loan when they do not have enough money to construct such a project for the benefit of the people. You rode on this train and seemingly ungrateful and unthankful for the experience you gain. Have you ever taken out a loan for a car, house or tuition? And you call it a debt trap?
it is a debt trap. look up the meaning of the phrase. Defining a Debt Trap
A debt trap is when you spend more than you earn and borrow against your credit to facilitate that spending. While this can certainly be caused by unnecessary spending, having inadequate savings to handle unforeseen costs can also result in a debt trap.
Shoulg i be grestfull to the CCP or to the lord and universe that has graced me with familg and life in beautiful Laos
Thank you for sharing, Zane. Very helpful info and feedback. Hopefully, I'm going to take that train to Luang Prabang next month.

I'm hoping to go through all if not most of Southeast Asia. Your video is giving me some ideas.

Oh yeah, weird thing about some trains operating in Asia: Business class > First class > Second class
First class looks like business class to me so many seats unlike Indonesia Whoosh seat style
We took a flight was really easy peasy than hassle with train we never bothered with train 45 minutes on the plane 👍👍x
Plane is better comfortable
Fyi This train isnt HSR/Bullet Train bcs the speed train cant reach atleast 200kmph/125miles per hour. This train only reach maximum speed on 160kmph/100miles per hour. The first and one and only High Speed Railway / Bullet Train in South East Asia is Whoosh Bullet Train in Indonesia. The train speed reach 355kmph. You must try
Train prices and service standards in China: Business Class > First Class > Second Class
First class is just a bit more comfortable seats and space.
Business class has a separate passenger lounge, which may have smarter seats or semi-reclining seats depending on the model, free meals free water and snacks, and separate passenger lanes.
I would hope that because old LP is a UNESCO site that it won't be destroyed by overdevelopement like Vang Vieng was. Although Laos used to be slow travel, I feel it once had a rural charm that no longer exists. The other issue is Chinese dams controling water flow into Laos and Cambodia. I can't see how they will maintain their sovereignty given such hurdles.
Thry wont.. kts a province of chims now
Very interesting information on this Laos China Train. Is first class different from business class? Safe travels!
biz class seat has vip room access and priority boarding
Debt trap?you don’t use mortgage to buy cars or houses?
if you got the money then NOT.. you dont need a mortgage or car loan simple.. I paid cash for my car so no debt...
China - Debt trap and USA - Death trap. They chose Debt trap over Death trap. They upset a lot of Propagandist, don't they?
Debt trap means that the borrower is in debt for generations and if you slip up on the payments Big Brother steps in and takes control to insure payment is made. The loan agreement is generally not beneficial or favorable to the borrower, hence the term "Debt Trap". Not the same as a car loan or house mortgage.
American here. Went with family on the train. Just a FYI. The train station is Hot. No AC. Also the train has minimal AC. The bathrooms are old school. Hole in the ground. Being your own toilet paper…
There is a words in chinese "要想富,先修路", means "Build roads first, if you want to be rich". Improvements of transportation will increase the efficiency of communication of business and goods, if products could reach the market quickly, the more money you will get. Building roads and schools is NEVER wrong for a country.
only if you can afford the loan terms should this be done and not by taking a deal that is not good in the long term for the borrower.
@@jamesgjurovich7893 show me the evidence which "is not good in the long term for the borrower", talk is easily, if you can give a greater finance solution to the Laos, I will give you me respect.
@@ChrisZhang531 A debt trap is a situation where someone spends more than they earn and borrows money to cover the difference, which can lead to a cycle of debt that spirals out of control. This can happen when someone takes out more loans than they can afford to pay back, or when they need to borrow more to pay off existing loans
Loas has no economy, they build nothing they produce nothing. what is their main export? Their money is worth nothing, so much so that you can't take it out of the country because no country outside of Laos will convert their money. evidence 64 USD = 1.4M KIP. You tell me Mr. Finance
@@jamesgjurovich7893 There is no need to explain "What is dept trap", Pls show me the evidence , if you believe in Lao-China railway is a dept trap.
Great réactions 😉
Did you know that they're planning to eventually connect the train to Germany....westerners will have a lot less leverage at some point too so, it's going to be interesting to see. Luang prabang beer is really good, smooth, was pleasantly surprised. Enjoy
What a beautiful view for beer:30
I accidentally bumped into your channel today and have subscribed you, but as soon as I heard you said 'debt trap', I have immediately unsubscribed. So despite the comfortable journey you have enjoyed, China should do this HSR for free for Laos? What kind of Anglo Saxon mentality is this? Don't think you are worth my time listening to your biased political analysis.
Thanks for visiting the country I live in
Once the HSR connects all the way to rich Singapore and semi rich Malaysia it will boost local tourism, where the Laos gdp is at a fraction of those soutern countries with an ASEAN population of 600 million.
Singapur and Malaysia not interesting in High Speed Trains. Malaysia has just electrified its metre gauge railway network to reach speed of 100 mph (160 kph).
Sorry to break this to you, the first class tickets are usd24 each if you book thru their app 😢
super CHINA
??
the LCR trains operate in 160 km / hours, so it different with WHOOSH trains that operate in 320 km / hours
I’m going to Vientiane and most likely will take the train to Vang Vieng too.
May I know which website did you purchase your ticket of the train from pls? Thanks
and if Laos can't keep up with the payments, China comes in and takes control of something in order to insure payment. Just look at what they are doing to Africa.
where did you buy the ticket, any links??
thanks
🎉wow that's a good lpb look
Hello. Did you visit Vang Vieng?
Borrowing fund and being a debt trap are two different concepts.
Hi Zane ❤
Peace❤
thats first class!!
Was wondering if you could put the link you used for your train ticket please 🙏 and I was also wondering how long prior to your trip you booked it. Saw a few things saying u can only do it a few days prior ?

update from Thailand railway to link laos. there are two paraelled projects ongoing. existing metre gauge rail and high speed railway. For high speed railway. the 1st and 2nd maybe finished around 2030-2032 and metre gauge is expanding the capacity to transport more passenger and cargos
The high-speed rail line will not be ready by 2030-2032. Thailand is currently building a high-speed train from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima and there will be a link to Vientiane in the future.
Laos don't have any speed train. Speed train required minimum 250 Km/hr, while Laos train can't even reach 200 Km/hr.
Were people smoking on the train?
smoking is not allowed at LCR
@@mabo9636 Chinese smoke anyway. I want to get 1st hand info from someone who was on the train.
@@markbigelow2608there is police officer on board and smoke censor
The train is a Chinese CR200 model, which is very old and not fast, but there is definitely no smoking on the train. The train is electrically powered and a fire would be catastrophic. So you'll see a lot of smokers on the train platforms or in the smoking rooms before the train starts.
All bullet trains in China are non-smoking, only fuel trains you can smoke in the carriages. They are called green trains in China.
I haven't seen those very outdated trains for over a decade, even the countryside has been replaced with old cr200 models.
WELCOME. TO..LAOS
i think i saw in another video that first class had 2+1 seating, business had 2+2, and regular had 3+2.
Did it stop anywhere in between?
Welcome❤
can you put the sim in an apple phone?
One sim allowed. 2 sims in Hong Kong
Awesome 👍👍👍👍
Infrastructure allows transportation. Transportation brings Commerce. Commerce creates Jobs. Jobs expands Economy. Economy growth requires Education. Higher education increases factor of production.
America was built on its Rail Network.
The U.K. was built on its Sea ways.
Both of which were almost all funded by Debt (Bonds).
This is nothing different.
This high speed train is not a big deal, you should've checked out those trains in China if you ever have the chance.
The railroad project is not a debt trap.
The China China high speed train is more insane.
Laos pay 30% and 70% (this is Laos taking a low interest loan from China)
are you OK?
