I spent 16 years in law enforcement, two SWAT schools, 22 years in the Army with combat tours. Everything Mike is saying about the belt setup, drawing, putting it away, and such is the same thing I was trained to do. I got more training on pistol use with the PD than with the Army, he is on point with this video. Great job explaining everything brother.

Everything you covered in this video is 100% facts. All the weapons instructors that have been in either combat or police. They keep there support hand on their chest or even grab their shirt because like in a fist fight if you don’t keep your hands up to maintain level and balance you will get knocked out. Drawing from the holster the way you demonstrated is also correct. That’s how seasoned police with or without military experience do it. There are lines that we as civilians can’t see that draw a distinction between people who are employed, trained and practice these techniques on a daily basis.

The "acquired grip vs just pulling up" was a huge takeaway for me. I typically run a smaller single stack EDC and it's not easy to grip quickly like my full size, and I realize now Ive been approaching my draw practice wrong.

The evil side of social media, as a boxing fan who competed at a high level in martial arts when in my later teens early twenties, you wouldn’t believe how many keyboard warriors I have seen telling professional boxers how to fight and criticizing them though 99.9 percent of them have never been involved in fist fight against some even moderately trained.
As a Conceal Carry guy, every time a spec ops guy gives his advice on holstering or unholstering techniques or anything related to shooting and survival tactics, I listen, they are the professionals.

Thank you sir for such a good content. I was then a police captain in the Philippines and got few gunfight experience too in fighting our criminality problems there to which the international community (particularly US) criticized us for our war campaign against illegal drugs. I'm not an expert in guns but I was only trained in Intelligence clandestine operation especially on how to develop human assets to attain our police mission objectives. In my 12yrs of police career, one thing that I would consider most important in surviving gunfights is to have that element of surprising your enemy. If you are being held at gunpoint, don't act, wait for your turn to make an ambush or in a way that you can surprise your opponent. I agree with all your concepts on how to draw your pistol, that is really helpful and can make a big difference in a life and death situation. Thanks again and I admire your passion to share your knowledge.

SGM, this is exactly how you taught us when you were in DFW, TX @ Range 35. Real world scenarios from someone I trust you more than anyone else i have ever trained under. I thought I was better than the average shooter, but the things you taught us (just like when Dave Acosta trained us) is from your "real world experience). I'm so glad I attended "Gunfighter courses" from Fieldcraft Survival b/c every single exercise has made me better at keeping myself and my family safer. Like I told you that day at Range 35, you may never know the vital success your teaching has given one of us. At 60 yrs old and 100% Disabled Veteran with my own career in the Army, I came in with a few bad habits from someone who merely called themselves a SME, but in reality never even fired their weapon in a life or death situation. Our courses with FCS were NOT teaching mere fundamentals. Exercises we did in FCS Gunfighter courses are given to us on more of a real world SHTF scenario. STAY ALERT, STAY ALIVE! Drive on SGM!

I’ve been in a few gunfights myself, and everything he is saying is stuff I do, and teach others. And not looking at your holster is specifically something I mention. When you are just finishing a gunfight and it’s time to retain your weapon, you’re damn right I’ll look at my holster, because I have massive amounts of adrenaline running through my body, and a lot of your fine motor skills dwindle. So I want to minimize the chances of me shooting myself in the leg just because I was not concentrating. Those who have never been on a “two way range” only practice to look cool on Instagram.

Mike, don’t listen to the “keyboard experts” ( I know you don’t). Everything you said regarding reholstering is spot on, took some classes last year at the Sig Academy and that’s how they teach it as well. There’s no award for the fastest back to the holster. In fact one of the instructors also not only said to look at the holster but look through it to see ground and not your leg as 90% of accidental discharges occur during reholstering like getting a piece of shirt caught in the trigger guard and when you stuff it in the holster BANG! God bless brother!

Everyone thinks they're an "operator" these days. I can't even watch most gun-channels on UA-cam anymore because I'm sick of everyone with their operator-beards and chest full of tactical gear really just dressed out to be seen at the range. My take is this; when I learn every single piece of data you can teach me, and, -AND-, I exceed your experience and success in the field, maybe then I'll question some of the things you do. (None of which is going to happen because I'm 57, ha). Until then, I'll just watch these vids you give us (for free, even) and learn what you're offering. And I'll be thankful for the coaching!

Mike, the last statement was the truest I’ve heard, ever. Since I am a welder, I’m not an expert on the subject matter on weapons and I enjoy your videos immensely. I do listen and practice as time allows to better my ability to draw and shoot from a concealed carry quickly and consistently. I have learned over the years, that if one guy says something about a subject matter, it’s just one guy’s “opinion “ but if over the course of time, if a few more guys say basically the same thing, well, then there’s probably some truth to it. I know that different guys from different backgrounds do things differently to a point, but when when it all boils down to it, it’s the same stuff. I like your videos because you break things Down in bite sized pieces that are easily put together to make whatever you are describing much easier for “us common folk” to digest. Very eloquently done rebuttal video man. Much love from right beside Ft Bragg 🤙🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸

I LOVE your tutorial. As a 31-year veteran law enforcement officer and trainer at the state level I would respectfully say one thing about looking at the holster. I may identify a situation that necessitates filling my hand with my firearm but it may change into a situation where I now need my baton, OC, handcuffs or taser and I don’t want to take my eyes off of my adversary while changing out those tools because it may quickly change again forcing me up or down the use of force continuum. I can’t identify the threat level if I cannot see it. Finding cover to make those exchanges (my anticipated response from you) is not always an option in rural environments. I love everything else you said and love the draw stroke. We practice shooting from the mid chest location after the hands marry up on the weapon for close encounters as well as shooting from the hip right out of the holster if you have someone on top of you. I appreciate you and your service. If you read this, thank you for taking the time. Rock on, brother.

There are lots of people out there, myself included, that "ride" on yours, and others words to make a person think about things, like the simple fact of LOOKING at your holster when the fight is over, and possibly minimizing an accidental discharge. All in all, keep up the great work and keeping the "trolls" at bay... take care and God Bless... Steve in Colorado

"Military experience" is also such a subjective term too, someone who says they have 10-15 years of military experience with being deployed 3 times could sound like a lot and sound like an expert, but asking the right questions could mean they like were a non combat MOS and all the times deployed, never left base. Compared to someone who has only been in only 3 years, deployed only once, but were a combat MOS could have experienced combat situations on a almost daily basis, has more experience.

    Thank you Mike.
You are doing a great job teaching others and doing it with passion.
There are several reasons why to hold your hand up and close to your body:
    1) Kipping your hand up when it is bleeding slows dow bleeding if wounded.
    2) I not wounded your hand in up and close position is ready to do many things including gripping your gun as a support hand, fisting another attacker who appears from nowhere, also your had becomes a cover which covers your vital organs like heart, lungs and liver.
Besides all of that if your hand is down it is associated with being relaxed what is absolutely unacceptable in gun fight situation.

Do you live in FL? There's lots of help. Most people will assist for almost nothing. You can afford 20 bucks to tip a gun shop employee. Just go ask your basic questions, and I'm glad you're reaching out to do something about it. Good job

Thanks Mike for all that you do , you deserve more respect . Who ever questioned Mikes experience in tactics , are clearly people who have never trained or have had ineptitude trainers. Sounds like those making comments have considered themselves having reached the pinnacle of training. Hence they will eventually fail and it will cost them. Any good operator always considers themselves as student . Even the best trainers consider themselves as students , because they are constantly learning, refining and evolving . Please excuse the grammar I don’t have the time to make this perfect . I’m to busy training and being more productive at refining my skill along with running a few businesses. Great job Mike!!

Especially for someone who has not had the same experiences you have had. I and anyone who want to be as prepared as possible for these situations should pay attention. Great video. Thanks to the trolls who made this video possible.

You are awesome! Everything you have said and shown us over the year is perfect and 100% correct. Do not listen to these keyboard warriors. The people who say you are wrong have no clue and have watched too much youtube videos and too many movies. I know there are many ways of doing things. I tell my students when I teach "This is A way, not THE way!" I have over 33 years of experience in Military and Law Enforcement and I do not know everything. I try to learn something new anytime I am teaching. From other instructors and the students. Thank you for all your hard work and keep brining us more.

Thank you for putting the information out on glancing at your holster. I've had actual instructors yell at me, as an instructor, and students for doing exactly that. I like to say that reholstering your pistol is an administrative task not a tactical one. This was a well thought out response video and I agree with all the information you put out. Might have to look into trying yo bring you guys out for my department one of these days.
