Justin, the founder of Bon iver, is from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He gained some fame with his original album, recorded mostly in a snow-bound log cabin. Since then, the band has expanded significantly, won a Grammy and become the darling of indie music. Most recently, Justin appeared on Taylor Swift's Folklore and Evermore albums. He's a musical genius -- as are other members of the band -- and definitely his own thing. If you want to see how Bon Iver has morphed over the years, give a listen to the most recent album, "i'i."
One of the most beautiful songs of our lifetimes. Glad you listened.
This was such an adorable video. Seeing you hear Justin for the first time, and getting to live vicariously was a real treat. Another 2 favs, because like other people, Justin’s been my favorite artist for over a decade, are Beth/Rest and 33 GOD. You’ll get to hear his radical revolution from Bon Iver Bon Iver to 22, A Million which was quite incredible first time I heard that evolution.
Way to go, Tim. I saw your eyes welling up. We are on the same page buddy. Thank you for your beautiful reaction.
Wish I could go back and listen to this song for the first time, so I’m glad I got to watch you enjoy it. Nice channel you have here! 😁
Yes maaaate, wished more blokes reacted to this, do go through the whole album man I'll be here for that
Will be driving through Wisconsin wilderness later today listening to Justin's music on way to packer game. Calm before the storm.
I live in Eau claire. This is the music my step-dad introduced me to 12 years ago when I was 8. It's truly beautiful. ❤️ Lots of memories. Being from the area means a lot.
So good, so many different instruments. Your ear for good music is a nice change
My favorite bon iver song is hey, ma. Also 33 "God", skinny love and this one all hit like a long walk in the woods, preferably through the snow.
My favorite artist for many years now, this is one of my favorite songs of his, thank you so much for reacting 🥰 a few other favorites are 33GOD and 713CREEKS. Really the whole album 22, A Million is incredible. iMi, Michicant, Blood Bank, and Naeem are really really good too. Can't exactly pick a bad song from his discography in my opinion lol
Thank you for this authentic reaction. It made my day
1) I love Bon Iver
2) You mentioned Oliver the musical- love that one
3) You mentioned GY!BE and how you liked the jazz elements in the song.
You should check out Do Make Say Think- a Canadian post-rock band with jazz and rock (and folk and space rock) elements. You should check out Frederencia, A History In Rust, Reitchule, The Landlord is Dead, etc- I could recommend more.
Thanks for the Bon Iver react.
Bon Iver became a band but started as the moniker for the main guy Justin Vernon who's from a small town in Wisconsin
You should check out his first album For Emma. Really beautiful, lo-fi indie folk.
One of my favorite modern songs .....
I'm super late, but everything these guys touch is gold.
They have 2 drum sets and additional percussionists, multiple saxophonists. Their live shows are amazing. Justin contracted hepatitis and went to his family’s remote Wisconsin cabin to escape. Watched an old tv show that kept saying Bon Iver which is a French term and thus got the name for the band
The best version I’ve heard is when they performed this on Jimmy Fallon. Check it out.
And at once, I knew I was not magnificent. 😌
Great reaction! Definitely check out more by them. Perth is a great song, written in honor of Heath Ledger, a friend of Justin Vernon, the singer.
Subbed!
First time I listened to this I was baked with a few close friends in high school. Still good friends to this day and this song will always hold a special place in our hearts
Been running through a bunch of your reactions and can’t get enough! Love your music theory discussions as well- super cool stuff haha. Figured I’d drop a recommendation, if you haven’t listened to any Radiohead (at least off of Kid A, most people have heard OK Computer by now), I’d definitely suggest either “How to Disappear Completely” or “Everything In It’s Right Place”. Both beautiful songs that would be cool to see you enjoy and also dissect from a music theory perspective if you haven’t heard them already!
But I guess if you haven’t heard OK Computer then songs like “Paranoid Android” and “Exit Music (for a film)” would definitely be more up your alley in terms of more “rock” style songs haha
I remember I was in 5th grade when I started listening to the band. I’m 26 now and till this day I still listen to every singles, albums etc. it gets me through the day and night.
Great reaction man, Bon iver is incredible. I love the fact that you can listen to the first album, which is just him recording over himself with nothing to speak of. Then the second album has the kitchen sink treatment. EVERY INSTRUMENT YOU WANT! And both albums are as beautiful as eachother dispite the difference.
Been a JV fan for more than a decade and love this song - only now heard the feint hand claps. Great technical breakdown of a beautiful song.
Would love some more bon iver
justin vernon is the greatest vocalist to ever walk on this earth
More in this vein?
Fleet Foxes or Damien Jurado...
Fleet Foxes for sure!
Talk less bro. Amazing fucking song
Please tell me the album I should start with to get in to Mastodon.
I would start with Leviathan or Blood Mountain.
Way to butcher the song. Next time maybe try to just enjoy the song instead of dissecting it with pause and comment. 🤷♂️
Wish you had watched the better video.
Right... The kid video kicks ass
