Actually the Merc W124 was offered with rear hydropnuematic on estates as standard and saloons as an option, it had good suspension but not a patch on a Citroen. Shame Citroen engineering’s so basic in the suspension department these days, even VW realise to make a decent riding car you need independent rear suspension.

And to realise that even small Citroëns like 2CV and all successors up to and including the likes of Visa and AX used to have fully independent front _and rear_ suspension makes it even more sad 😕 Those weren't exactly expensive cars, so costs alone clearly don't justify inferior rear suspension constructions! Really hate the wobbly rear-end behaviour on (asymmetrically) uneven roads of these 'semi-independent' torsion axis rear suspensions so many (not just small) cars have these days 😭

Yeah but today it is like this. Mercedes is one of if not the safest and comfortable cars. Also good handling. But porsche got the best handling in the world for normal street cars
The new 508 is however an awesome car (very last model) and can compete with E class / 5 series anytime. But Mercedes and BMW have an edge in crazy high hp with the amg range and the bmw Motorsport vehicles.

It seems that you don't know well Citroen. Citroen DS was a luxurious innovative car. They don't have anything like that today. Actually to be clear, the last 2 years of PSA group were very good, they started becoming higher quality and innovative again.
I had a BX, 1.4l; my 1st car, dad gave it to me. It was fantastic, best thing ever; Top #1 suspension super comfy and nothing up to today matched it. Fantastic stuff
Fully expected the Citroen do do well in these situations, but the surprise to ❤me was the Fiat Croma which showed more competence than the German executives.

The title is CarShit. If this site is on top of car technology it would know that German car engineering has always been superior to anything else on this planet. Even with regards to car suspension. This however does not invalidate that the hydro-pneumatic suspension of Citroen was a marvel although too complex to economically maintain in mass production.

Mercedes Benz sells car in far greater volume than Citroen does. There are good reasons for this: build quality and reliability. I remember when Citroen launched the C6 back in 2005. I even said if I bought one I hand it to BMW or Benz and pay 'em to take it to bits and put it back together properly.
Merc w124 isn't much worse than citroen, and you can't call this video poor german engierring because there is fiat and mercedes in those tests was good
I see mercedes did better also if oversteer itv took a sharper path, the citroen got very near the cones. I wont say "poor german engineering" these were european cars and still today we havent roads this large except autobahn and high speed roads where 130kph is the speed limit... This vid just shows failures including the citroen
@@dumpit3583 they did the Same test with a Citroen CX wich weight about 1.4-1.5 tons, the Audi was between about 1.1 and 1.5 Tons, the Mercedes e124 between 1.3 and 1.6 Tons, and the CX still handled better.
fuck right off is the german engineering poor. Helps on the counter steering test that the citroen is FWD and the Mercedes is RWD, still didn't spin out. The w124 is a phenomenal machine that will never be beaten. and as for someone saying that the Mercedes had hydropneumatics suspension, you're wrong, saloons very rarely got Mercedes' SLS system, however it was standard on estate models.
In reality the Merc 124 is an excellently engineered car except for rust, and for a steel sprung car it did well, but it has to bow down to the Citroen's far better suspension system and other French quirk. Lets not talk about the Audi embarrassment, they were badly made cars that only sold due to Made in Germany tag.

Not necessarily, it depends what you are comparing. Also pretty much all new VW/Skoda cars are bang average and using cheap materials or crappy engines. Even their high-end models like the arteon lack comfort or style.
Combining many factors, French cars provide better materials but sell at a more affordable price, while German cars are sold to customers at a high price.
