They actually mentioned in an interview, the song was created "to make a hard topic easy to digest & fun to listen to”, and "develop this into a song that would not be depressing". I think they nailed their goal to be honest 😄 plus, this song is getting a lot of attention from the lgbt community, especially Gen Z vegans . Plus, the members of Citi Zēni are also vegetarians! Honestly would love to see this in the top 10 for Eurovision, in fact they even won first place for both the juries and televotes in Latvia during their national selection, so that is off to a good start!
Side note : Love how you’re just vibing and enjoying the song! 🥰 they’ve received so much hate for their win and it is refreshing to see someone who is not blatantly hating on them.
I love it that you completely missed on all the "hidden" meaning and focused only on veggies 😂 But I get it, this is a censored version so I guess it makes sense, the uncensored version is still silly and makes no sense but it's definitely NOT kid friendly 😂
A bit of background: The song is 100% satirical and ironic (though Citi Zeni do stand by the message of going green). According to the lead singer Janis, the notorious first line (which has been censored along with some other lines) was inspired by a vegan friend of his who wore a shirt saying "Instead of meat, I eat [I've censored this for purposes of being family friendly]". He made a note of it for later as he thought it was hilarious. Nothing came of the note until later when Janis participated in a cooking show with a hardcore vegan who would try and convice others to stop eating meat. The idea was then pitched to the rest of the band members who thought that the idea was hilarious and now here we are
Btw the guy in the end didn't protect himself as he did the split. During the semi final his pants actually split so he was just making sure in the end he's not exposed once again 😂
The splits guy isn't actually protecting his.. sausage. His pants broke in the semifinal, so he's covering that area just in case😅
It's absolutely not a winner but honestly it's such a brilliant vibe, it's so happy and up beat and sometimes we need that in a competition with ballads about depressing love. Also they sing 'sexy as fu**' not fur they can't swear on stage obviously so they just made the fuh sound.
This song is not about veggies
It's more healthy than a cake to bake
I don't know if this is going to make it to the final but I kind of hope it does, Eurovision needs an entry like this sometimes, that's just fun 😂 however no one will ever replace Epic Sax Guy!

By the way, instruments in Eurovision have to be prerecorded, so I think they were prerecorded in the National final already! Also the guy doing the splits at the end was making sure his pants wouldn’t rip and show some stuff (happened in the semi, LOL)

Being green is such a big topic, I like the lyrics theres so much truth in the song and look at those cool guys. Great commercial for our planet, nothing to complain! And by the way much nicer than all those love songs, also the wolf with the banana, something different is nice and it makes me think that the people of the countries with these songs are cool and brave. I'm german and we are none of that 🤣

It's a great subject (go green, go vegan/vegetarian) but they could have written better words.
Honestly, this is the only way it works. Being serious while advocating veganism in a song sounds pretentious as hell. This way it's more fun, and meat eaters (like me) won't be mad because it can also be interpreted as a joke.

People both underrate and misinterpret this. I deem this has got even winner potential. The lyrics is written so that the song doesn't really sound so serious as the topic truly is, this is TV show after all, and why she would think of him when she eats her veggies? Myb because he is vegan/eco-friendly, so he wants his partner to follow the same and if she might not like veggies that much, thinking of him would make her like it more because she loves him and by loving him she could indirectly help stay environment safe. And the song isn't only about literally just veggies, it's allegory for living generally eco-friendly lifestyle. It doesn't have to work so in reality of course, but the concept that they use in the song is funny and I don't really understand how this gets so much hate while Iceland 2020 with quite basic lyrics got such a praise. 🙄

There are many people who do not understand how serious this global problem is through dramatic films or dramatic articles and I am absolutely convinced , that this kind of message , with humor, will reach many people, that living green can be just stylish, not vital important. We also have to think about how to reach an audience of these people, and I think that Citi zēni done it just - fantastic.
Sometimes you have to get out of box to make same good things.

The lyrics sound like they asked a 10-year-old to write about how cool it is to have a green diet. 😅 I'm a veggie myself and have been for a very long time, so I approve the message of the song, but the lyrics, IMO, are just a tad too literal and not imaginative enough. But hey - it is what it is!
The guy making the splits covered, because in the semi final when he made the splits, his jeans ripped and underwear could be seen, the fail is still on youtube hahaha. But he got the jeans patched up, so he didn't rip them this time. Also, the song is not about veggies actually. If you read the lyrics, you'll get it. But I love how you vibe to this song.

First, maybe you should have focused on things that they could improve in performance rather than constantly dissing lyrics (can’t really improve that).
Second, Latvia previously has had entries with songs about pirates and cakes.
Eurovision is just a big party and, in my opinion, lots of people vote based on emotions rather than deep techical analysis of the song, but I could be wrong😄

Better Salad than old love stories and history or politic war stories all the time ... We gotta start to think positive otherwise world is dying of serious and depressed people !!!! latvia, or really any eurovision song probably didn't go with the intent to win eurovision. Some novelty songs have been made, which are songs that go to eurovision not to win but to make it fun for the listeners.
