I love the close-ups you do of the watches and the fact you point out when the second hand does or doesn't hit the mark is just good to know imo. Solid review man.
ALL regular Quartz movements misses some indices if not equipped with some sort of correction. It could be a break, like in Grand Seiko 9f, or it could be a magnet in the seconds wheel like in the Omega 1538B (based on ETA255.461). Other quartz calibers with separate engines for the hands will have less of a play (like many cheap Casios). With knowledge comes understanding I like to think :)
if you know even a little about watchmaking youll understand that it’s quite difficult especially if you’re mass producing for affordability. There are ways to mitigate bounce but then you still have to regulate every watch that goes out and whoever cases the movement has to again align the movement. You then have to hope it doesn’t get jostled around in shipping bc a lot of parts are friction fitted. In a way that’s why mechanical watches are satisfying, because you don’t see that second hand is missing marks. I’d say if seconds not hitting bugs you, get a mechanical watch.
Thanks for a good review as always Ben. I actually had one of the original ones in mint condition, bracelet (afaik MUCH worse than this reissue) and all. Not easy to forget this dial and case. If my mind serves me well, the crystal was faceted. Wouldnt run after a battery change and got junked... was about 15 years ago when Timex wasnt expected to rise again, and the watch itself was worthless. The in house Timex movements were rather low end. If I had known what I know now, I probably would have done some more work to make it running...
Great review. Totally agree on quartz ticking second hands missing markers - so frustrating... I struggle to buy three-hand quartzes for this reason. Disagree on acrylic crystals though: prefer these to domed mineral crystals as you can just polish out the scratches - sapphire obviously better but won't give the same look.
Fully agree in the mentioned "issues" . A not matching second hand for example is annoying, or the disparate marker(s). Thanks for your review! However I ordered one today because of Cybermonday -30% ... so I paid 125 € at the end of the day, well knowing - from other reviews where they talked about their wrist size ;) - the watch will fit my wrist and even with the small issues it looks great. btw: The lume plays no role for me.
That is an amazingly attractive watch. If they offered it In a 40/42mm I'd own one for sure. It's nice to see more Watch channels and reviewers shining some love on Timex. They're trying to get back into the game but they need to step it up just slightly. I for one am re-discovering my love for Quartz movements, again. Great review 👍
When in need for a funky retro vibe, I simply put a Vostok Amphibia (420 or 710) on my wrist. A trustful automatic watch, with much beter quality control then the Falcon eye.
I believe the lug design is referred to as _hooded_ And was fairly popular in the late 60 through the 70s. I have a few seikos with a similar lug. The timex has a hooded lugs but also a similar profile as the king seiko 45 where a cylindrical body is held by sculptural rails. This watch additionally reminds me of the seiko advan and ks specials which had a flamboyant styling, usually a colorful dial but also I believe the original movement was _ElectroMechanical_ . This meant it had a battery powered balance wheel and ticked more like a mechanical watch. Judging by Seiko Elnix and EL330/370 which we also electromechanical the original timex would have set you back many more hundreds, i’m guessing. Also pressed clasps were standard back then with even rolex having press, folded hollow bracelets. I think the timex falcon is prob the coolest and unique looking watch for the price. too back electromechanical isn’t done anymore.
I was surprised to see that yours came in a basic box. When I bought mine it came in the regular q series box, but with a style on the inside that was unique to that specific watch itself.
Those lugs manage to stop a beautiful dial from being on a desireable watch. I would genuinely be tempted, had it conventional lugs and accurate alignment.
Agreed, it's beautiful in pictures but when you see it on a wrist it's pretty awkward looking. They should create a variant with traditional lugs or the same case style as the Tissot prx.
Bought this watch after your review , bought it so cheap in sale , and this looks so freaking good on wrist and when the sun hits it , it shine like crazy , i have got compliments on this watch , people asking me what watch is that lol 😂🤣😂 .
Alignment is a continuous issue with Timex watches - I had to send two Waterbury watches back because of this and it's made me wary of buying from Timex ever again. This video has confirmed why I won't be a returning customer. Their bracelets are impossible to remove links from too.
I thought this watch was that cool that I bought one. I’ve not actually worn it yet, so I can’t comment on the the QC issues yours had Ben. My packaging was different though. Mine came in the higher end long thin box which my Marlin came in which is a bit nicer than the budget box you got. Bought this one definitely for the stunning blue dial and got it just under £110 in the 11.11 sale on the Timex website. I like the looks so much I also bought a vintage example too which I’m refurbishing.
I don't normally gripe about misaligned second hands on quartz watches because it's fairly common with quartz movements. However, for a $100+ watch, I'd expect that second hand to line up with those marks.
One of the first watches I ever owned as a child was a Timex Quartz, though not this model. Anyhow, I might consider it for around $100 but probably not at full list price of $179. I am actually fine with the watch being Quartz, and I really like how easy battery changes will be. I also like the acrylic crystal for a vintage vibe. However, I remember how much those cheap bracelets sucked, and would prefer something a little nicer. But at the right price, I could see myself changing out the bracelet for a nice leather strap, or even maybe a mesh bracelet.
I have a Waterbury and a expedition, on both, seconds hand are really annoying to look at and really loud, but both are extremly accurate. Those reissues are kinda overpriced for what it offers, but they look nice, if Timex could improve the watch or over charge a bit less. I got the Q with coke bezel this black friday, closer to a "fair price".
I've purchased this watch straight from Timex, for much more money. But for me, at least, it did come in a much more 'retro' box. Long flat box that had some plush satin lining, it was pretty nice.
Bangin video Ben. Was itching to pull the trigger on this. I don't have anything against quartz, but when the second hand misses the indicators this much...I just can't. Spot on video. I love that dial, though. Would be nice to see one with a miyota or seagull automatic/manual. But, it doesn't look like that will happen. It's a shame. I got a great deal on a 34mm Marlin on Amazon. Keep up the great work. Cheers.
Interesting that, at approximately the 8:47 mark in this video, when pointing out the misalignment of the second hand? You showed a side-by-side comparison with a Seiko equipped with no markers, neither hour nor minutes. I’m aware that you were apparently underwhelmed with this particular piece, but a comparable quartz (anything by Casio) might’ve been a bit more apropos. Great review, all points both positive and not so positive, well covered. Thanks!
I agree with the no marker dial makes any comparison shaky at best, though I would note the Timex Qs have Seiko movements. Best comparison would probably be a Lorus
The only Timex I have liked is the Timex Marlin reissue with a Seagull St6 handwound mechanical movement. Beautiful, but at 34mm too small for me. It would suit you Ben.
Spot on. The dial is attractive in a ridiculous way... but the poor seconds hand alignment, tinny bracelet (which will not work unless your wrist is at least 7"), and acrylic crystal makes it feel more like a novelty than a keeper for the asking price. I ended up selling mine. It's a fun look, but it wasn't quite able to justify a lasting spot in the watch box. A more enjoyable retro-cheap trio: Casio A168WA-1, Luch one hand (ZN version), and Armitron Griffy LED. All three for less than a Falcon, with enough left for lunch and a brew.
As I was just commenting on another channel, this watch looks awsome. And it may very well be worth the price... But I have difficulty paying $100+ usd for a *Timex* (even a nice-looking 'retro' design) when, for a little less to a little more money, I can have a Seiko, Citizen, Pulsar, Bertucci, etc. with better features (like Eco Drive) and reputation. I think Timex has forgotten what made them a successful watch company in the first place: INEXPENSIVE, reliable watches!
I want to love Timex, I really do. I’ve had my fair share of Timex watches in the past and with all of them there is always a few constants, 1. They’re loud 2. That was a good review. I like your attention to detail. The Timex brand reminds me of my childhood when I bought my first Timex watch. Timex needs to work on getting their quality up a little. I just bought a Casio Edifice watch for 100 dollars that I like much better than the watch in this review. My edifice model has analop and digital with no second hand which I actually prefer.
Beautiful watch. Since it's so cheap, and, everybody should own a Timex, I may get it. Problem is, the dial is very similar to my Yema Superman Heritage blue, and, frankly, I'm personally not a big fan of this thing's case design, though I appreciate what Timex tried to do here.

Looks fine on your wrist on the outdoor shots. I love the look of this watch, but the price point is a bit too steep for my liking. $100 is where I draw the line for quartz, and Timex offers great watches at that mark.

Why don't you try the Orient Neo 70's ( UG1U004V )? It's basically Orient's version of the Q-Timex idea. Would love to see a video comparing this Falcon Eye with the Orient Neo 70's (purple dial) because both of them are new vintage quartz watches at around 100usd, with very similar looks.
I feel like they will go down in price with time, or at least I hope so. The Mk1 line also started off in the $90-100 range. Now they’re going for $28.
I agree, I just bought the LCA. Its a beautiful watch but I think I can justify its price (maybe at like 100 instead of 149) because it’s the only one on the market other than that Casio LF20W that has that LCA display.
This watch would be an instant buy at about half the price point. Alternatively, give it a sapphire crystal and a smooth-sweeping movement and I'd gladly pay full price.
Sapphire crystal, yes, but the movement should be quartz with the beat quartz is famous for. The Timex Q line was created specifically for that back when quartz technology was a new, luxurious thing after all.
I got a "Henry of London" from Amazon for less than 80 € with a beautiful blue dial. Of course it's chinese, but I really like the blue dial with the golden elements. And it even has a real moonphase window, that tells me, that today is full moon :-)
Nice watch, but Timex seems to fall "just short" when it comes to their retro and quartz watches. I'd like to see sapphire crystals, better bracelets/leather straps, and 100 meter water resistance. That would increase the price, but these features would make the watches more competitive and appealing to consumers. Long live the Timex Ironman.✌🏽👍🏽
Hi there Ben, it's not your OCD kicking in. I hate it as well when markers don't get it properly! Did you got my email regarding the review of a Brunmontagne watch? It's a up and coming Dutch brand. Let me know!
I have actual OCD and I do not worry about minute details and pricision in watches as much as Ben does, I value artistic direction and overal look over tiny details. But I'm used to people misusing my diagnosis.
Timex Falcon Eye (affiliate link): fave.co/3LmyGqW

Super that Timex and Tissot starts produsing vintage quartz models - I like it!
It would be super if Seiko will make 70s King Quartz and Grand Quartz

Hi there Ben, it's not your OCD kicking in. I hate it as well when markers don't get it properly! Did you got my email regarding the review of a Brunmontagne watch? It's a up and coming Dutch brand. Let me know!
I would totally buy it if it was mechanical (with adequate pricing)
Shame about all the other things because that dial is beautiful
Is there a watch guy that isn’t OCD? Why else would you be obsessed with precision time instruments?
I have actual OCD and I do not worry about minute details and pricision in watches as much as Ben does, I value artistic direction and overal look over tiny details. But I'm used to people misusing my diagnosis.
You can't go wrong with a Beautiful Blue Dial...
