  • What does the Lamb of God mean in the Bible and in the Mass?
Jesus is the Lamb of God
    - John the Baptist called Jesus the "Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world."
    - John encountered Jesus as a lamb in his vision of heaven in the Book of Revelation.
    - Peter and Paul both refer to Jesus as the sacrificial paschal Lamb of God.
What is the significance of the Lamb of God in the Bible?
In the Passover story, the Israelite slaughtered an unblemished lamb and spread the blood upon their doors so that the Spirt of the Lord would pass over them.
When Jesus celebrated the Passover with his disciples at the Last Supper, he was making the connection between himself and the Paschal Lamb of the Old Testament. His body would be the bread and his blood would be the wine.
This is why we proclaim before receiving communion, "Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. ...have mercy on us. ...grant us peace." (Or in Latin, "Agnus Dei, miserere nobis...dona nobis pacem.")
The sacrifice Jesus made of himself is the sacrifice of the lamb to take away our sins once and for all. Jesus is the unblemished lamb, the perfect person, who died so that we might live.
Just as the Israelites passed over from slavery in Egypt to freedom in the Promised Land, so too do we pass over from slavery to sin to freedom of everlasting life.

The reason Jesus is called the Lamb of God is because the shed blood of Jesus cover's our sins and his death paid the penalty for our sin.

Jared, do you know if there’s been any discussions on how to receive the blood of Christ at Eucharist? My church stopped serving at the beginning of COVID and doesn’t seem to have any plan moving forward. I envision each person bringing their own cup and the server having an eye dropper to disperse to each parishioner. I think it’s time we consider such plans. Even pre-COVID, I would opt out during flu season. Anyway, thanks for all of your great lessons.

Who is the 'Lamb of God' the Father or the Son? The bible says its the Son who came to earth and died for our sins. The Father is the one who sent him, sustained & blessed him and even resurrected him! Thus REV 15:3 records how the 'Lamb' feels " Great and marvelous are your deeds, oh Lord God SOVEREIGN over all". Yes John saw this and recorded it as the 'song of the lamb ( as well as Moses who also extolled God for saving Israel from the red sea". All praise to the "God & Father OF our Lord Jesus Christ" ( Eph 1:3, 2 cor 1:3) He it was who gave us His dear Son to die for Us! Praise the Father!

Phew I thought you were going to say he free us from the Ten Commandments! That would have been false doctrine!,

Why does the Bible say the son of man came as a drunkard and a glutton of Jesus never sinned????

Matthew says that people said that, he does not say that it is correct, actually he clearly implies that they are incorrect. Jesus hung around with drunkards and sinners to show them the way and to lead by example. If you actually read the book of Matthew (which is the book you are referring to), then you would know that. Also the bible does not say not to drink, God says that wine is to be enjoyed but Jesus teaches that moderation is important.
More often than not, you people who question what the bible says have never actually read it and simply get poorly informed arguments from over the internet.

Revelation chapter 5 shows clearly that the 'lamb' is NOT Almighty God! Firstly he is called the lamb OF God, thus he BELONGS to the Father. Secondly due to his faithful course on earth including his suffering and death for us he is counted "worth to receive poer, & riches & wisdom & strength & glory" ( Rev 5: 12 ) Thus He cannot be God Himself since God CANNOT RECEIVE anything! Acts17:25.
