So Im playing this right now....and I have to say....this 'mod' is pretty much better than any billion dollar gaming company would do...its the remake people want...and it isnt even a remake...well done to the creator...well done indeed.
Well thank you, sadly I (as the main dev) and the Project Leader have never recieved any donations unfortunatly, so basicly we even did this for free.
@@daxx2756I'm having stuttering issues, seems like a caching issue, I've got a pretty high end system, so it's not the hardware. Any advice?
@@Mazut0 there is an option that says "precache textures" you should use that, the readme also states that.
Gzdoom was nevet meant for high end graphics and even what I did there is something it's not easily capable of, so precaching stuff is important.
@@daxx2756 what about a crowfunding? This project is awesome, this is the remake we waited for, I'm sure you will obtain funds to maintain, update and finish the project.
@@RomainSACCO it actually is finished, the only thing are a few effects that weren't changed but that's no problem, about crowdfunding, we tried that and we didn't recieve anything.
This is phenomenal, it looks just how I imagined it back then...I hope it gets finished.

The problem with these "remaster" versions is that they are not uniformly beautiful. The backgrounds, the weapons are beautiful, and the pick-up objects are also very good. But. Monsters really don't fit into the picture. And so little light shines on them that they do not prevail at all.
Man, the reflections on the gem in the staff is mesmerizing
That's almost perfect. Maybe a little too dark. But outstanding textures !!!
Damn man, I remember almost every sound effect in this game. One that I really loved was the Serpent Staff when you're absorbing your enemies health at close combat.
Fascinating, the lighting looks really good. Captures the moody atmosphere.
Andrew, can we please have this mod soon? Love this and the Blood mod as well. Please don't deprive us of your talents! I know I'm not alone in this!

reminds me of when i first saw quake darkplaces with all the ultra textures rygels pks nd stuff.....BEAUTIFUL I JUST PLAYED THRU THIS AND DUKE NUKEM 3d and trying to beat BLOOD but jesus its hard one.I had to read a walkthru to get thru some of hexen

Hi, Andrew, i am very happy to watch this video. HEXEN was my favorite doom-like game in childhood. I even buy this game form steam. How do i use this mod ? Thank you.
The mod is called Rebirth of Cronos. link in description. The scene from the video is my attempt to remake the levels for this mod with dark lighting and adding details. Unfortunately, I have abandoned development for now. Maybe I'll come back to this later))

This matches how I rembered it seemed back in 1996.
This is how it's done. Looks and feels just like the old game but with modern graphics. Finish this and then do the same with the original Doom and Heretic and I'd pay for all 3 of them.
I've seen a couple of videos and lightning was definitely wrong or not full, and it looked like ass. With proper relighting all these high-quality models and textures looks amazing as it should be 👍👍

Looks great I'm just a sucker for pixel art and the HD texture pack just looks really good in comparison IMO.
The weapon shines with a mirror effect like in Doomsday, how did you achieve it? (don't say everything, just a little). Please zip this map ( and more ) and upload it to a link , people want to play it.
love to know how to extract those 3d models properly so they can be used for VR
Graphically it looks stunning, but I don't like wand hit texture, it looks childish and cartoonish a bit. Overall brilliant medievall settings, parallax, lighting and so on. Hexen is definately worth checking out !
It's not parallax but normal mapping, it works well with light effect beside. Parallax is not good for the sides of the textures.
Dev here, to explain it a bit better, Parallax is a Texture Depth technique which also shifts the textures around with the view, on edge's it'll look like textures are moving over the edges, which doesn't look good, and that's why I decided to go with normal maps only
@@EmmanuelEXEf06 I mean bump mapping but I don't know why I wrote parallax. Remember good old 3D Mark bencharks? I think bump mapping was first supported on rendition verite and the matroc g200/400 afair

How do you get the lighting to look like this? When I run it in GZDoom, dynamic lights seem minimal and ambient/sector lighting is still there

@@jackoneill45 it's true, I just installed the mod and the lightning doesn't seems the same as this video. I noticed the fire pedestals in the very beginning is also not present for me. In this video, there's more details on the trees and leafs flying around, but nothing of this is present in my game.
@@Zafarion I just did some testing myself and it looks like hes using a modified version of the Hexen 2020 HD wad file. When you stack rebirth with that you get a very similar effect.

I am sorry for a lame question, but how can I run the mod? I tried to run it with the latest GZDoom, but it does not seem to be working for me. It just does not "see" the WAD I downloaded from the site.

The ettins in this mod kinda look like the PS1 cutscene cinematic of the game.

I have to be honest that I follow your channel regularly hoping for the Blood remaster as well and it is frustrating to see your beautiful videos and then not be able to have the same. Very nice although, it does seem to have all the same problems that modern 3D engine like this always seem to have. The main one being that the dark bits are WAY too dark.

I like everything but the monsters. Don't get me wrong, they're very faithfull and well done, but Doom engine monsters just don't translate well to 3D. Their proportions look off, and the game's code doesn't work well with smooth animations. I'd rather have voxel monsters like what was done for Doom.
Still, I'm very glad someone made this mod, it's an obvious work of passion and love towards the game.

I used to beleive this game and then play, then when I got stuck I cheated and teleport random to Dark Highness Korax, then win, with Minotaur Dark Servant!

Yeah this is not running on the doom engine. Looks more like unity or unreal.

Hi. I'm trying to remake levels with full dynamic lighting and lots of models. But there is one problem. Brightness in the original game is not enough. Need to gain brightness and contrast, or use a shader.

Textures are amazing, but lighting... a bit off for me. Too dark, it's a Hexen, not Doom 3 after all.

The mod RoC is not so god . In this video the lights are better ; i think here is aswell your mod hexen-hd-2020 .
Please ¿ how do you charge hexen-hd-2020 with Rebirth of Cronos ?
I have tryed it making a new launcher.bat with the two mods, but the models 3D of the enemis go to sprites 2D ( object decoratives go well in 3D , and arms aswell ) .
I have proved to put the files in the bat in all combinations , but the enemies go to 2D ; i can´t solve de bat-puzzle .
I would like play "hexen-hd-2020" like in the video , with the models RoC ; but making a bat with the two mods, the models3D of enemis don´t go .
¿ the solution is only in the .bat , or you have change any more in the pk3 ?
