I too am a lifelong gamer. Games in the 90s would very often release at £70. We've had super cheap gaming for a long time now. If games had followed inflation over the years we'd be at almost £200 for a game. Games today are cheaper to manufacture, but the time and effort and man hours that go into making some very big titles these days are phenomenal. £70 is too expensive for some games, but not all. And there's always a sale just around the corner.

Moment discs happend games dropped by 15 easily.
Then in the age of digital and games now selling multi millions in a month the price either should drop or remain the same.
Especially in the age of them trying to chase F2P game profits

Gaming isn't in crisis.... But it could be.
More and more games are releasing broken, buggy, unfinished...... A lot of games are made to milk YOU for money even after the initial purchase.
Games range from standard version £54.99 up too stupid amounts for deluxe versions that can go in too the £100 point.
AAA games seems to charge more and put in less effort, and when you couple this with many poor sods can't afford to live, people are just choosing NOT to buy games as much.
I mean look at this new tripe that is Concord..... Sony went out and ACTIVELY purchased the developers of that game, thinking it was what PS owners want??????
Then they charge £40, for yet ANOTHER game that is an Overwatch/Destiny rip off crappy title, that cost absolute MILLIONS too make.
It's dumb moves like this, that companies/Devs are making more and more, which damage gaming and people lose any trust in a game actually being worthwhile and worthy of your money in 2024 and beyond.

Part of the problem these days is games are in development far too long and i often cant see the extra quality of them warranting it over generations like the Xbox 360. I do wish we got a few more smaller / shorter / arcade games that don’t require leaving up or going though million of menus and just get you to the action. like where this generation need for speed, ssx, motorstorm, titanfall, etc.

With the current cost of living crisis most adults can’t afford many luxuries. Speaking for myself I don’t have The spare money now to buy 2 or 3 games a month like I did before and just try a game. Now I’m only really buying one or two games a year and playing the rest in Gamepass on Xbox. The pricing of games now is basically £70 upwards. And the last physical game I bought was about two years ago. Games are just two expensive now and let’s be honest most are not worth the full RRP and are heavily slashed in price within a couple months

Likewise, my PS5 has 9TB of PS4 and PS5 games. Having all the games ready makes it a good enough generation for me.

I'm also tired of buggy games with constant patches (WWE 2K24 fans will definitely understand. Don't even get me started that I paid for the top edition yet am expected to pay even more for some damn outfits).
I find myself less and less willing to take a chance on games when they are first released.
I have a backlog of games I've not played or hardly played so I don't mind waiting on price drops.
Physical copies feel kind of pointless as most of the game seems to install via download anyway. The disc seems literally to just be a key to the door.
Plus for me the only option for Physical copies on the highstreet is CEX and newer games basically cost as much as a digital download so why bother?
I'd prefer Physical but at the same time it as I said before seems pointless.

The main reason why Physical and Digital Sales is in Crisis is because of services like Nintendo Switch Online and XBOX Game Pass. These Companies are on track to outright kill the Physical and Digital marketplace and very soon we will not own anything and These Companies can just take games away and delist them whenever they want since we will all be tied down to a Annual Subscription model. Also XBOX can charge whatever they want for the Digital Game as they know that Game Pass will be the cheaper alternative option that their players will choose and we have all been conditioned to believe we are all getting a far better deal when in reality we are not. Simply put a game that has been launched on Game Pass will have an expiration date and we will still have to pay full price for the game if we wish to continue playing it so what even is the whole point in Game Pass anyway when it only serves as a Blockbusters style rental video game service. Modern Day Gaming is getting worse each day and I would gladly start playing older games that I own over what is coming out now..

If people want to see an increase in the regularity of ‘big’ releases, then there probably needs to be a reframing of expectations over what a ‘big release’ actually entails - by which I mean not rubbishing a game immediately just because it doesn’t have the graphical fidelity or technical polish of a Rockstar or Naughty Dog game. Similarly, the idea that every game should be a massive open world that takes 200 hours to complete, all because of a reductive idea that game length inherently equals value to the consumer. All these things do is lead to longer development times, spiralling budgets, crunch, and ultimately studio closures if the thing they poured years into doesn’t take with an audience.

There are so many games I've never heard of on the ps5 that i run into online all the time. Just most of these don't make it into the shops that stock new stuff, which has a knock of effect that they don't get to cex either, as the only people buying them in the first place are the collectors who were just going to keep them. Also your average gamer just buys the digital version so thats another reason the stock in cex seems so low.

Apart from Covid messing everyone up, game sales are following the usual cadence. A new console used to arrive every 5 years, but 5 years is a bit too long. Towards the end of the gen everyone gets a bit meh as apathy sets in and stops buying games. New console hardware cures that by sparking new interest to buy games. The PS4 gen was 6 years with a mid gen fresh arriving at year 3. This worked well to motivate games sale. Due to Covid the PS5 gen has had a slow start, so the gen is looking like 8 years now with the mid gen refresh at year 4. Mark Cerny totally understands the cadence of generations using new hardware to keep gamers engaged. Phil Spencer clearly did not get the memo and Xbox is going belly up.
Once PS5 Pro arrives, PlayStation game sales will surge. Xbox will just keep sinking into the abyss.

Game production takes way too long. I bought a Series X on the trailer launch of Fable 4. That was over a year ago. Still no release date.
The other issue is the quality. FFVII Rebirth was awful.
Square took the risk to aim it at younger players, not the OG base. And it backfired.
Now they want to abandon exclusives to expand the audience. It wont work. Xbox players think it sucks too.

I didn’t even want a PS4 OR Xbox One in the first place! The PS4 I skipped completely, the only reason I even got an Xbox One was because my Mom INSISTED I get one after my Jasper 360 RRODed in 2016! I should’ve been more assertive in my refusal to upgrade, with both the Xbone and PS4 forcing all those updates and shit on their users!
I’ll mainly use my PS5 for 4K Blu Rays, playing the PS4 games I missed and a good few PS5 games!
What we need to see more of in stores is Evercade products! Evercade is a GREAT gaming ecosystem, physical cartridges, the ability to play straight away and although you can update your system, you don’t need to!
If I were to open a game store, I’d stock PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Evercade and Chromatic! No Xbox stuff in my store!

6th gen has to be my favourite, granted i was born into it so my nostalgia bias is a little strong but 3 incredbile systems, teh ps2 had one of the greatest libraries of any system, the gc was poorly marketed but had classics in the large majority of major nintendo ips and xbox gave us halo. it was also the last generation in which major publishers focus was primarily on making good games to make a lot of money not cash sapping husks to make all the money. companies like ubisoft were bringing us games like beyond good and evil, splinter cell, cold fear, real ghost reacon games not just this year's new open world and another ac game. the shift deffo happened in the 7th gen and so it's not like the 360 and ps3 immediately brought on the end times but the 6th was the last mostly safe gem

Games are now shit, but shit and expensive. Back in the day you had loads of releases some were bad but they were also cheap. Repeats of games today remasters remakes we've seen it all before. Also jump from ps1 to PS2 and then to PS3 was massive, today I don't see a huge difference between PS4 and 5. There's no hype anymore.

It's a money grab nowadays. There's no passion in the games anymore compared to the previous generations. Just look at what's released in recent years since the pandemic and how shit they are compared to the 360 and ps3 generation. Just look at the showcases this year xbox one was decent and fairly stacked the PlayStation one a lot of the games was on the xbox showcase. Sony and xbox to a degree, are just sticking to what they know will bring in the money. Xbox will branch out to try new things once in a while. Personally the 360 generation was the best you had decent games released on both consoles and those that were gambles but were genuinely good. The passion was in the games back then now not so much or they are far and few in between. It boils down to corporate greed ultimately

Unfinished, DEI infected games are being released that are not fun to play. The production cycle of games has hugely increased and therefore the variety of games are reduced, because no one is willing to take a risk. More companies are investing in lifeservice games to become the next Fortnite and less in quality games. So yes, gaming industry is in trouble right now. I am having more fun playing on the 360 right now than on this newer generation of consoles and I am not feeling that I am missing out on something…

New games are boring and lack luster they're few and far between as far as quality is concerned. Older games are so much better and fun. New games cost a mint and for the most part dont live up to the price. I've been playing so much ps3 recently this is my favourite generation of gaming and the peak of gaming.
