    Kandi America hired me to film a video driving the new Kandi K23, which they claim will be the least expensive all-electric vehicle sold in North America. The K23 is set to be released in late 2020.
    Update: Kandi never released the K23, but instead released a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle version called the NEV-K23 that is limited to 25 mph.

      @@TheGentlemanRacer thanks for the clarification. This brings a follow-up question: you mention that the range can let you do a trip to Austin or Houston, charge, then come back. If you're limited to level 2 charging, you're probably only getting 25-30 miles an hour back on the battery. So I gotta ask: how much would that trip be for you in distance and how much time would you anticipate you would be charging at the destination?

    • @TheGentlemanRacer
      @TheGentlemanRacer  4 роки тому +2

      @@Necrotron So it will fully recharge in around 7 hours, on Level II charging, so you would need to plan to spend a day in Austin. But it is doable, unlike say the original Fiat 500e which would only go 84 miles fully charged, it wouldn't even give you the option of driving to Austin or Houston from where I live.

    Kandi’s web-site states that the Kandi K23 is a neighborhood car with only a 25-35 mph speed & an 80 mile range. ???????? It does not match what he is saying in this video. ?????

      Ok so now the K23 is only being offered as a NEV, but originally it was going to be offered as a full electric car that could go on the highway. After they had some issues, they switched to the NEV model and don't sell this one in the US. If you read the updated description I say "Kandi never released the K23, but instead released a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle version called the NEV-K23 that is limited to 25 mph."

    Unless you are going to owe the government $7500 then it's not worth it. Honestly I would buy one if say the K23 was around the $20,000 price tag. 4 year 50,000 mile warranty and then 62,000 8 year battery seems like the car will last around 3-6 years before it/the battery dies out if you don't live in a city scene. Which again is okay if the batteries are an easy swap out and affordable. The K27 looks like it could be a great car and is a little more realistic on the price and would only need to be around the $15,000. I would drive the K23 for GrubHub hitting around 80-100 miles a day and between $.75-$1.25 a mile is pretty dang good ROI . You're a lucky man to be able to test drive one. I highly doubt they would let me test drive and make a review of one. Cheers though and great review.

The car they dropped off for me to test was a pre-production car and honestly, for a first car, it was put together pretty well. But shortly after the launch, all the stuff came out and they switched it to a NEV. It would have been a good cheap city car, the other model which was a copy of a Dahatisu was better looking in my opinion, and I got to drive one of those as well at their location near Dallas. I'd rock it if I win the contest, but these things are going to be dead on arrival once they actually go to market. At $20K - $30K in a market that shuns small (ugly) (Chinese) cars, enough people are not going to buy these to make them relevant. It's all nice and well touting tax credits, but what many people do not understand is that the credit is not magically taken off of the sticker price at purchase (which I think it should like many foreign countries do) and not everyone is entitled to them. If you have no tax liability at the end of the tax year, you won't see a dime of the credit - they simply negate your tax liability. Even if you did get a check for $7500, unless you pay that towards the principle balance of the car, you still paid full price which is why I hate it when companies try to make you think you are getting an EV for such a "low" price. You also have to look at what else is available in the marketplace for that price range. You can get a base Tesla Model 3 for $39K and many other EVs currently available hover in that range as well.Then you have the used market - that kind of money buys you a lot of EV. I'm seeing late model Bolts, i3, Leaf, and even Tesla Model S cars for $20K - $35K on the secondary market. I own and drive an EV and they are awesome, but this is the wrong car at the wrong price at the wrong time in the U.S.
