Bacau , 2008
Composed in 1941 for the movie " Dangerous Moonlight " , also known as " Suicide Squadron" . The main theme is a folk song " World Outside" . The producers wanted to use the second concert of Rachmaninov , but then , they changed their minds and prefered to have an original soundtrack for their movie , but they requested that it has to be written in Rachmaninov's spirit . So they choosed Addinsell , known also as the "fake Rachmaninov" and asked him to write the music for this movie that stories the love between a beautiful concert pianist and a pilot . The action takes place in Poland during the Second World War .
The Warsaw Concerto has haunted me also for more than 50 years! Such a welling-up of emotion fills my eyes with tears and sorrow for hapless mankind. ( in reply to Harriet Swanson ) God Bless !
Ahhh. The best Ive heard recorded. This music is to die for!

I can listen to it over and over and over and over........
Ioana, you have the orchestra and the audience in complete awe of your musical talent. You have few equals in your field. Wonderful piano piece of one of my most favorite concertos!
simply lovely. beautiful, so beautiful.
This is the best version I've heard yet.
Perfect performance otf the
Warsaw Concerto.,
David Esparza Aguirre
Playing this piece at such a hurried rate really does it an injustice. It takes away from the feeling that it should evoke in the listener (me).
A powerful emotional beautiful piece of music…..always a favourite.
c'est absolument superbe!
extraordinaire et magnifique..
Christiane Rovelli
The piano does sound very mechanically executed. Listen to the beautiful harmony and move with the music.
Extraordinary, amazing! the great performance by Ioana Maria Lapascu, the magnificent conduction by Ovidiu Balan and the exceptional composition by Richard Addinsell for the romantic movie, dangerous moonlight
to listen to..... once, twice...over and over again
thx to sdfjklri for posting such a masterwork
The best rendition I have found on this media. They are all in it.
Utterly lovely, superb melody. Magnificent performance of a symphonic orchestra. Bravissimo.
So dramatic! I love this concerto!!
far too hurried. Is it at the right speed?
@@MrDaiseymay it isn.t the right speed maybe.. but in the 5.th gear comes out the spirit of both man and woman !
me too. So beautiful. I can't get enough of this performance.
She does it better than anybody I've seen!
i remember sèing the film upon its realease . this brings back so many memories.
FANTASTIC!!!
Magică interpretare!
Cât de frumos este totul armonizat!
Mulțumesc din suflet pentru acest magnific moment!
Awesome performance of this concerto. Love it.....
Thank you for this exquisite piece...brings back memories of my childhood early cinema excursions
I don't care about haphazard or anything else. All I hear and feel are waves of beauty washing over the aether. Divine!
Fantastic piece of music and what a great pianist.
Well done..I really enjoyed watching and listening to your excellent rendition of this MASTERPIECE...she is indeed a virtuoso - a genius piano player.
WOW!!!! Fantastic!!!! Romantic, Passionate and an indulgence for the ears.... I loved this. Thank you for putting this up. Great version... 415 likes and 14 dislikes???? It makes you wonder what those people were listening to.
oooh!! this simphony are very but very beautiful and to be gold for me :(
Best and most dramatic rendition I have heard. I like it fast as it is too ponderous otherwise.
This is a piece of beautiful classical music. It belongs amongthe classics. considering the time it was written it reflects the Europe of WWII with all its hopes and fears.
I cannot get enough of this performance. I find myself listening to it constantly. And wish I could find a recording of tis exact performance.
Gorgeous performance!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Acho espetacular!
Excellent
Warsaw Concerto from the film Dangerous Moonlight. It was a classic then and remains so.
Thank you for this my friend
Genial composición de Addinsell. Magistral interpretación de María Lupescu.
Breathtaking!
out 'rachmaninoff's' rachmaninoff--esp at 4 min.--ravishing, tender theme....love the piece--ultra romantic and lush---
@tacsandamps Nice. My mother used to play this too when I was a child. I remember lying in my bed listening to her playing it....I am sure i should have been asleep !
A beautiful piece, fully in the spirit of Rachmaninov.
i love this concerto in any rendition but the lupascu one is so beautiful i only wish i had only part of her talent, probably one of the most beautiful pieces ever written i could listen to it all day thank you
Wonderful !
Brava!
I agree it's a little fast but the conductor is calling for it
Fantastic!
Very nice great performance
My friend won a concerto competition with this!
takes my breath away i remember this as a little girl it is just marvelous
Sencillamente maravilloso
My parents talked about this film frequently, but I wasn't old enough to see it, and have never had the opportunity to see not even an old footage - too bad. I loved this concert through them. Thank you.
If you've already played it, I hope it went well. If you have not yet played it, good luck!
@Tashmere Sweet! Thanks for sharing!
merci magnifique
I much prefer it fast like this as so many including Liberace made it slow ,ponderous and boring. This is the best version around and is full of vibrant life.I find it remarkable how she can play it so fast.
If only I hadn't quit many years ago, I wonder where I would be today in terms of piano!
The playing might be just a trifle too fast but it is still exquisite.
tres beau morceau
diabolic... divine!
SIMPLEMENTE EXTRAORDINARIO...
Yes, it was skillfully played, but I too felt that the soloist and the orchestra were in a hurry to get to the finish. They got through the whole composition in less than eight minutes, whereas it usually takes at least nine. Enjoyable, however.
@sdfjklri: Actually the movie, "Dangerous Moonlight," only partially takes place in Warsaw, where the concert pianist/composer, who is also a Polish pilot, meets an American newswoman covering the war there. They meet again in NYC and get married, and she tries to prevent him from returning to the air force. He attempts a kamikaze attack on a Nazi war plane and barely survives but has lost his memory. Eventually his estranged wife, who has come looking for him, helps him regain it...
merci
I am throwing 100000 flowers on your stage!!!
BEAUTIFUUUUUUUL, WONDERFUUUUUUL :(
des frissons!
WOW!
Es magnifico.
I think she did as well as anyone could with this peice. Her piano playing gave some substance to this otherwise haphazardly composed peice. Don't get me wrong, the harmonies are gorgeous and have influenced my own compositions, but the lack of real thematic development is a weakness in this peice. It's more of a collection of simple, straight forward melodies with great chord extensions.
Thanks a million for this fantastic and excellent rendition of this masterpiece. Wonderful piece of music. BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!!
The song "World Outside" was written and recorded in 1959 and was based on the film theme. The Warsaw Concerto was composed in 1940. You have your facts the wrong way around. See the Wikipedia article for details.
Very moving yes a slower pace maybe - Russ Conway who l had the great pleasure of working with played with the same style and yes a little hasty sometimes which loses the 'romance'
Hermoso!!!!
Bravissima !
Andre Preview conducting? Probably not but the hair reminds me of him.
I know that Bacau is in Romenia. What Orchestra is this?
Can I get a cd of this recording somewhere?

Sencillamente maravilloso
horopu
I wanted to write about this piece in music school but I was not allowed because it does not have "4 movements"
Bravissima
me too..interesting !!!
Wonderful.,and MELONCHOLY (sp) for me, as this was so very popular during my growing up days in Cleveland ohio. Who is the pianist? What orchestra?
coś pięknego
Conmomedor, biennial ejecutado, con maestria.
The performance is so wonderful and the performer herself is so HOT!
Great piece of music: so mysterious and historical for when it was composed. Love it.
I prefer she played it in a more romantic way. Too fast. I still like the version by Valentina Lisitsa.
THE BEST OF ADDINSELL : THE DANGEROUS MOONLIGHT

THE FILM WAS CALLED DANGEROUS MOONLIGHT X
For your information, this movie was shown in the United States as, "Suicide Squadron."
Dr. Joseph Adan, Ph.D.
The Warsaw Concerto was the incidental music to the British film, "Dangerous Moonlight." The film was made during the second- world- war years. It was shown in the United States as, "Suicide Squadron."
THEY would wouldn't they ?--far snappier eh? ever commercial. They probably thought John Wayne was starring.
I loved everything about it, including the faster than usual tempo...except for the cough from somewhere in the audience, around the middle of the concerto! It sounded like it was maybe the camera-handler who coughed?... Oh, well, when you've gotta cough, you've gotta cough...
Anyway, this was a beautiful and energetic rendition. Wonderful main performer, wonderful orchestra.
Thanks for posting the video!
Bravo!! You did great!! This is a difficult Piano Concerto and you mastered it like few!! I recently recorded it anf god knows what i`ve strugled to pull it off!! Congratulations!!
