Bailey is the Bill Nye of history. They need to show her videos in high schools 😂 I learn more from her than I did from my textbooks and teachers combined back in school lol
Her saying "when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's a werewolf" I literally squealed. I loved that so much. You're amazing Bailey!! ❤😂
Please do a dark history on voodoo! I would love to learn more about the history behind it and how it's still thriving in the US (and other places if you have time)
If you're truly interested in voodoo history, look up a woman named Lilith Dorsey. She's a priestess here in New Orleans, and is such a nice and very knowledgeable person. She's really a gem. She was apart of a documentary special about witches that aired in conjuction with Anne Rice's The Mayfair Witches on AMC. She's also a published author and does public speaking engagements throughout the year at different events and conventions.
There's already lots of content creators that make content about voodoo. I feel like that's something you'd want to learn about from someone who actually practices it. ❤
When Bailey said "Transylvania, by the way, which exists" I literally lost it because I live here and the thought of people thinking we live in a forgotten vampires land is WILD 😭🤣
Lol. So is there like a big culture of that there or are most people there like ugh ...vampires..I wish people would just let it go lol. As in...tired of people associating the two and there is not much mention of vampires there other than just movies or book folklore?
@@krystalsnavely9042 well, ethnographically speaking there are different versions of vampires that were mentioned historically and they were part of village folklore especially. With urbanisation things started to be forgotten and not passed to the new generations. However, there are some village nuclei that still keep more or less the 'old traditions'. For example, when I was a kid visiting my grandparents and the countryside I remember vividly when the villagers exhumed a recently deceased man in order to stake him (and I am just in my 20s currently so that wasn't too long ago) This being said, this type of superstitions do not belong solely to a certain area or a country. In the Balkans/ Eastern Europe they were traditionally frequent everywhere, with every people putting their own spin on it
As someone who is Romanian, I can tell you the reason why we still refer to Vlad as our hero is because he unified the regions together that are now Romania. Our country would not exist without him. Additionally, our history tells us that Vlad tortured and impaled people who were criminals not innocent people. There were also other members of his line that were also named Vlad so sometimes the acts of one Vlad and the other get confused because they have the same name.
Actually he did not unify anything, the first who actually unified the regions is Mihai Viteazul in 1600, but the Romanian national identity wasn't a thing back then, so it wasn't what you'd call an unification. The first official unification of two Romanian provinces/regions happened in 1859.
One man can literally not do all that in which she described, he had to have followers and men who did his deed for him. Many of them probably came up with a lot of it. Some of the torture devices were also older than him, so he took what already was. Many people were behind these things, not one man. He could never have done that I'd people didn't follow him. So
Now that the E U has forced Europe to allow refugees to enter your country, Europe could use another Vlad The Impaler. If the muslims invading south eatern europe, see other "refugees" Impaled on a pike, they may change their mind, and turn around and go back to Asia.
Vlad the Impaler is a very controversial ruler, some people condemn him for his cruelty, but others praise his reign. His reign was said to be one of the most prosperous and safe reigns from medieval Romania (Wallachia then) because people (and enemies) feared him soo much. There is a folk rumor that says no one dared to steal anything during the time when he was the ruler just because they were afraid of him and because of this, the wells from villages had silver cups that you could drink from that no one dared to steal. Thank you for this episode, Bailey! xoxo from Romania 🧛♂
Thank you for sharing , I loved the side story. I always try to find someone from the area where Bailey's topics/situations/stories occur then or now. ❤ So interesting about the silver cup at the wells.
I have heard similar things from multiple sources, and also that he protected women which unusual in those days. He is especially praised by the Romani Gypsies, some of whom claim to be related to him in some way which was never fully explained to me.
Vlad the Impaler aka Vlad Dracul and the association with vampires was first coined by Bram Stroker (situating the origin of Dracula in Transylvania). Mostly because Eastern Europe was believed to be a land of primitive superstitions. Initially, it was meant to be situated in Austria, but I believe it felt too “western” and “new world” and Transylvania is seen as a border between worlds…this choice led to a lot of misunderstandings and slowly but surely evolved in creating Transylvania as a breeding ground for all sorts of monsters, mostly vamps tho. So the historical basis and connection is pretty random I believe, mostly he would have been inspired by “his thirst for blood” but other than that Vlad was a great (sometimes gruesome) ruler, no vampire tho..
So now i need to know more though! 80,000 dead, was that the number she quoted? So this Vlad, was he personally supposed to have impaled all those people (who has that much time though while ruling a country?) Or were these mostly enemy deaths like during wars? Not his own people, or he just impaled the ones who made him mad? So many questions!
Yeah and the seals, called the selkie known as the seal people from the Irish isles. They were beautiful dark haired usually depicted as women but occasionally as males. When they're in the water they're seals and when on land they shed they're skin becoming women. Luring sailors, pirates etc
Bailey (name of my daughter) you have gotten me through so much this year. I've been battling cancer and youve been such an amazing source of happiness and distraction for me. I really appreciate as an disabled albino who has indigenous blood running through me, I appreciate that you bring to light all of the things that have been hidden far too long. You deserve a huge reward for enlightening so many
Awe... So sorry to hear of your struggles😢 But it is so true, she has a certain way of telling the story with add-libs that slap us all into reality of how much ignorance there is still amongst us in society.
I would love a whole episode about Vlad the Impaler, it‘s much more interesting the way you tell the story than what we learned in school. Btw, I live in Transylvania. 😂❤️ Greetings from Romania ❤️
I wouldn’t have skipped school so much if Bailey had been my history teacher. The holocaust was the only interesting thing I remember from my history classes
Romanian girl here from the land of Vlad 😂 I have visited his castle and it's awesome but nothing rly spooky there. Would looove if you would do an episode on him! Love your videos Bailey, you're my favorite youtuber 🥰
Actually, Dracul means the devil in Romanian. But due to Latin (and probably lack of knowledge at the time) dragon was associated with the word for devil. The castle you showed of Vlad the Impaler is Poienari Citadel. It's actually older than Vlad's rule, but he most likely either developed it or at least used it. It has a bit of a scandalous love story associated between Vlad (married) and Katherina. Traditionally, Bran Castle is considered Dracula's Castle. Both are stunning in their own right. Romanians are quite fond of him actually because yes, he was cruel, but only to invaders, thieves etc. He's remembered as a fair leader. Back in the day we had a scorched earth policy when it came to invaders, poison wells, torch fields etc. Love your content, bye❤
Best comment ever. We used to turn out the lights light candles and kerosene lamps and tell ghost stories some of my best memories, they are m I mostly all passed on now. It was so fun this reminds me of that 🧡🖤💜
So coincidental how she drops this story about monsters. Its so relevant to todays times. Almost like history keeps repeating itself. I genuinely wonder if humans will forever be monsters or will we ever find our humanity again.
Seriously... Here I am, writing my PhD thesis on monsters in literature, losing my inspiration ... And then Bailey shows up, talking about monsters. Inspiration comes back immediately 😄😄😄
Accusations were also land grabs; if someone could prove their neighbor was a witch or other “demonic” entity, they had a chance of being rewarded with the accused’s land.
In the novel Dracula could go out during the day, he just wasn't as powerful. Stoker got the name Dracula and maybe some historical information from the history of Vlad the Impaler but Stoker was also inspired by prior vampire stories like The Mysterious Stranger (Stoker ripped off a lot from this short story) and Carmilla.
You should do an episode on the late Queen Elizabeth's hidden cousins. There were many of them that had difficulties as a result of keeping that blood line pure. And so they were institutionalised their whole life and kept hidden from the public.
I would like to see a part 2 to monsters. There are more interesting ones! the headless horseman, Frankenstein's monster. I guess some are myths or books too. What is it about monsters? Thanks for talking, Bailey. I enjoy our chats!
Hey. Greeting from Romania, luv what you do. So nice to hear you talk about something from our country. Btw, Dracul does not mean dragon in romanian, but devil. So his names were Vlad Țepeș (Vlad the Impaler) or Vlad Dracul (Vlad the Devil) 😁 He was my favorite history figure to write papers on :))) He was something
Hi Bailey! Love your show ❤️ been watching for years. I’m a proud Romanian-American who’s parents are both from Transylvania. He is considered a hero even though his ways were horrific… he kept Romania going and kept them safe from the the Turks who terrorized Romania for generations. OOOHHH MMYYY GOSH! So excited for this one, literally stopped in the middle of another video to watch this! Also, i saw it happened to a lot of people but youtube recommended a few videos of you from like 10 years ago and GIRL! SO PROUD OF YOU! Thank you for all of the amazing content.
Hey Bailey, I know you usually do your dark history videos based on what inspires you in the moment but I was curious if you would ever consider doing a dark history episode about the Titanic! Love your content, keep it going! 💕
I've actually made myself read the original Dracula by Bram Stoker. It's awesome. But Ol' Vlad was one insane, disturbed, dude. I would love for you to do a M,M,M episode on him. 🖤 You rock, Bailey. Thanks for all the Dark History! 🖤
A hot and fresh dark history with a shout-out to my beloved (as a kid) 90s book series. Yes. Just yes. Bruh, please tell me you had a weird phase where you thought you would be able to turn into an animal after reading those books! I totally did.
16:14 Immediately thought of Shakira’s “She Wolf” 🐺song: 🎶 A domesticated girl, that’s all you ask of me Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy The moon’s awake now, with eyes wide open My body’s craving, so feed the hungry 🎶
Bailey, love you so much! I listen to you while I’m working in my shop! You literally helped me through the worst time in my life! I’ll be forever grateful.
I LOVED animorphs!! And in the book at the top of the page I believe if you flipped the pages fast it would be the transformation of the person to animal within the flipping
Excuse me? YOU’VE NEVER SEEN INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE!?!?!? My jaw actually dropped. You must watch it immediately 😭😭😭 this is me COMING FOR YOU BAILEY.
Bram Stroker's "Dracula" was also made into a movie. It starred Gary Oldman as the Count, Keanu Reevs, Winona Ryder and Anthony Hopkins. It sticks really close to the book. A movie, if you like vampires, "Dracula" is a movie for you to watch. Love your take on monsters Bailey. If you haven't seen "Dracula" check it out.
Ohhh my boyfriend and I are such huge Halloween lovers and the fact that you talk about this topic makes me soooo happy 😍 I love it how you said that this is the only acceptable time of year to have those decorations, meanwhile our apartments look like it's Halloween every day 😂 You look gorgeous, girl! 🧚♀️✨️💜
We love more dark history episodes on this channel. We adore just how much effort has been invested into tho whole venture. We also appreciate the fact that Bailey delivers all the way through.
These dark history videos would genuinely be so perfect to show in a history class. I would have LOVED that when I was in school. Very educational without being boring. Kid would looooove it
When someone says that during the witch trials, they "confessed to.."anything - I never really believed that it happened. They were tortured until they said it, in the most brutal ways one can imagine. I too would have just said yes if they asked me "did you...?" just to make it stop.
I run my own painting business and I’m always so excited for your weekly videos! I listen to them when I paint 😁😁 my fave has been the BANANAS episode. It was BANANAS 🍌
Smooches, Bailey! Thank you for doing what you do and making the day of thousands of people so much better! ✨ Edit: you must must must watch "The Serpent And The Rainbow".
I just want to share: i watch/listen to your videos as I go to bed. My cat Molly curls up next to me and cannot take her eyes off you! And the smoke in this video totally shook her! Thank you for entertaining us both!
Bailey, you Always make my Thursdays better! I just got home from physical therapy, and there, your new episode is waiting for me! Thank you for being you! As always, sending love ❤️
Ooooh 2 things, whats this lip combo? Love it. Second, Dark History of studies and trials! Y’already did Tuskegee, but look at Zimbardo, Milgram, the prison flu study!
I always wondered where "werewolves" came from...thanks Ms.Bailey! I learned something new today!! 📝....that man, Peter, What a sicko 😢...... Love this class!!.. have a Happy HaLlOwEen Ms.Bailey!! 🎃

No, she really isn t. Unless you accept Nye's input as junk science.
Her saying "when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's a werewolf" I literally squealed. I loved that so much. You're amazing Bailey!! ❤😂
I'm Sicilian, and grew up on Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra etcetera. When I heard that I laughed so hard! 😅

I would love to visit eastern Europe

There is nothing new in this world
It all just cycles
“returning” to humanity? then we would’ve had to have it to begin with…
When did we have it?
When did the tyranny ever ease up?
What humanity? Humans have always been monsters it's just that they're more open about it now.
Seriously... Here I am, writing my PhD thesis on monsters in literature, losing my inspiration ... And then Bailey shows up, talking about monsters. Inspiration comes back immediately 😄😄😄
Hope you graduate your doctorate with flying colours!
👏👏👏👏👏👍

"If you've got a hole, she's gonna tongue it" I literally cackled😂
I choked on my lemonade 😂
I was doing my makeup and almost poked my eye 😂
Same! I laughed so loud!
Bailey Sarian 5 days before Halloween is the best!!!
You should do an episode on the late Queen Elizabeth's hidden cousins. There were many of them that had difficulties as a result of keeping that blood line pure. And so they were institutionalised their whole life and kept hidden from the public.
I think when people are tortured for days and weeks at a time, they will admit to anything.
PLEASE DO DARK HISTORY ON HALLOWEEN!!! I want to know the origin of All Hallows’ eve.
I would like to see a part 2 to monsters. There are more interesting ones! the headless horseman, Frankenstein's monster. I guess some are myths or books too. What is it about monsters? Thanks for talking, Bailey. I enjoy our chats!

Hi Bailey! Love your show ❤️ been watching for years. I’m a proud Romanian-American who’s parents are both from Transylvania. Just a little note… Vlad tepes (the impailer) may be looked at by others as a very scary figure but he is very culturally important to us! He is considered a hero even though his ways were horrific… he kept Romania going and kept them safe from the the Turks who terrorized Romania for generations. His tactics were retaliation from the even more horrifying things the Turks would do to Romanian children…🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴 thank you for digging into part of my culture I feel very honored ❤️ keep going girl I love you! 😘

Hey Bailey, I know you usually do your dark history videos based on what inspires you in the moment but I was curious if you would ever consider doing a dark history episode about the Titanic! Love your content, keep it going! 💕
I’m from the Philippines, Everything Bailey said about manananggal is true 😂😂
I remember reading about it, it's so creepy. I even read that they have a weird crazy smile, that isn't natural. Stuff of nightmares.
I loved Animorphs books and recently got my son in to them too! Ugh wanted to turn in to an animal so bad..
It makes me so happy that you talked about Vlad the Impaler! I have read so much about him!
Hei eu sunt din România. Sincer acum România are nevoie de un Vlad Țepeș . România este condusă de idioți
I've actually made myself read the original Dracula by Bram Stoker. It's awesome. But Ol' Vlad was one insane, disturbed, dude. I would love for you to do a M,M,M episode on him. 🖤 You rock, Bailey. Thanks for all the Dark History! 🖤
Thank you so much for including a Halloween theme for your Dark History episodes. I love it 🎃 👻 !

I see you, fellow Gen X-er!!!
Billy Wirth. I could gaze at him all day.

A hot and fresh dark history with a shout-out to my beloved (as a kid) 90s book series. Yes. Just yes.
Bruh, please tell me you had a weird phase where you thought you would be able to turn into an animal after reading those books! I totally did.
My son did, definitely 😁

PRESENT to Miss. Bailey's class!! ❤ we love and appreciate you!!
Ok please can you cover the lost colony of Roanoke
The full moon effecting the werewolf is Hollywood mythology. It was completely invented by the director of the first Wolfman movie.
^ werewolf detected!
16:14 Immediately thought of Shakira’s “She Wolf” 🐺song:
🎶 A domesticated girl, that’s all you ask of me
Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy
The moon’s awake now, with eyes wide open
My body’s craving, so feed the hungry 🎶
Bailey, love you so much! I listen to you while I’m working in my shop! You literally helped me through the worst time in my life! I’ll be forever grateful.
I LOVED animorphs!! And in the book at the top of the page I believe if you flipped the pages fast it would be the transformation of the person to animal within the flipping
I literally got credits in college for a history of zombies class. I learned a TON.
I took a zombie literature course!!!!
OK… But why wasn’t this offered at my college?
What class?
Excuse me? YOU’VE NEVER SEEN INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE!?!?!? My jaw actually dropped. You must watch it immediately 😭😭😭 this is me COMING FOR YOU BAILEY.

My favorite Francis Ford Coppola movie !! Best movie from 1992.
there was a dracula movie released this year, too. i just looked it up and it's based on just one of the chapters from the book.
Ohhh my boyfriend and I are such huge Halloween lovers and the fact that you talk about this topic makes me soooo happy 😍 I love it how you said that this is the only acceptable time of year to have those decorations, meanwhile our apartments look like it's Halloween every day 😂
You look gorgeous, girl! 🧚♀️✨️💜
you should do a dark history of cancer/cancer research
I hoped you’d mention Elizabet Bathory too. She’d fit in between the Egyptians and Vlad, since she was bathing in blood to keep herself young.
I’m so down to hear the history of paper 🙌🏽📜🙌🏽
My family doesn’t need supper….I’m watching BAILEY 😝
52:40 - 53:12 Was super amazing and would make a great short. ❤
Kid would looooove it
About to dye my hair, looking for something to watch and this pops up, perfect timing! ❤❤
I love Bailey even more now that she brought up Animorphs! I loved those books and never missed the show when I was little! She's just so relatable.
Oo im early!! Im so excited for this one!! Perfect for spooky season 🧡
When someone says that during the witch trials, they "confessed to.."anything - I never really believed that it happened. They were tortured until they said it, in the most brutal ways one can imagine. I too would have just said yes if they asked me "did you...?" just to make it stop.
I didn’t waste a second after seeing the notification! I needed my dose of dark history.
We love Vlady here in Romania !❤
Okay! YES!!! Loving this Already~!! I love when you do creepy history stuff!! yay monsters hahah
This is my favorite dark history so far ! I love knowing there was werewolf trials too. Wish that would be mentioned just as much as the witch trials.
Bailey, you have the best narrative style. Your show never disappoints. 💜
I run my own painting business and I’m always so excited for your weekly videos! I listen to them when I paint 😁😁 my fave has been the BANANAS episode. It was BANANAS 🍌
