In spite of COVID kicking your butts, you were able to move on one pedal stroke after another until you were able to start enjoying the spectacular fall color along the Northern Rail Trail. STUNNING!
Hi Roland & Julianna, I discovered your channel yesterday and was very impressed by your content and cinematography. My wife Jan and I will be watching all your adventures in the coming weeks. Thank you and have a wonderful day, Steve
Absolutely one of the best things about Bike Touring, being able to pull into a little roadside deli. Have fresh soup, coffee, and a sweet treat. You have truly exposed us to some great treasures out there in Vermont. I sure have enjoyed this adventure. So sorry about the Covid.
My wife and I have enjoyed all your videos of this incredible journey. We are so impressed with your outstanding filming and editing that makes it so much fun to view. This chapter 34 is one of our favorites. So sorry that you faced so many hardships on this adventure. You overcame each and every one of them. Beautiful scenery with each section of your trip. We admire both of you for hanging in there to the end.
Vermont, New-Hampshire, New England, looks like home to me if somewhere in your country ever looked as beautiful as our own in fall. Glad you guys could make it. We all benefited from your trials and tribulations. Thanks!
Fantastic video! Just made me want to jump into my computer screen and enjoy the amazing scenery. Looking forward to a spectacular ending to your adventure.
What a wonderful experience. I live in New England and take that Rte 4 ride from Rutland across Vermont through Killington and Woodstock to Quechee Gorge on the NH border every year. Just about to do it next week in peak foliage season. Your video and your narrative are extraordinary. It makes one love life and be thankful for the blessing of being here and being able to do that.Thank you so much for sharing your experiences . You make every viewer feel as is they are your friend . Best wishes. Enjoy the holidays. You are wonderful folks enjoying life and sharing it all.
Yes... you are absolutely right... there is something about these videos that make us feel like we are their friends! By far the best bike touring videos that I have found.
These are such kind words! We do want to share this, these experiences, these incredible feelings we get as we tour. So glad they’re coming through! Thanks so much for sharing that!
@@TheBicycleTourists it’s been our pleasure to view the videos. It’s like catching up with old friends for 20 minutes every day! Thanks again. If you ever venture back to Cape Cod area give me a heads up and I’ll show you our great trails … many rail trails and ocean view trails and I will treat you folks to all of the lobster, clams and oysters you can handle!
Yay! Now you're in our neighborhood! A whole roller coaster of emotions in this segment. Disappointment that you might need to end your trip, happy your spirits and the weather lifted and you were able to push on despite not feeling great, and absolutely thrilled that you hopped on the Northern Rail Trail! It sure is a gem! When I turned 60 I rode from the east end to the west end for 60 miles to celebrate with friends and family. The NRT got me back in the saddle. If you ever make a trip back this way we'd love to share a ride and a meal! :)
What a beautiful video and I am so glad that you were able to push on. Nothing like a crisp morning fall ride to make for a better day. Mother Nature is really a true healer for the soul. Leaves are past up here. Take care, Al
Here I sit in day 6 of my Covid bout thinking how will I ever ride again. (just a bad day) . So your intro had me close to tears for you guys, so close not to be able to finish. But you kept going and by the end of the film we were all feeling more positive. Your care and love for each other shines through and you have offered us so much. Thank you - ride on, my friends, ride on!!!
Thanks so much, Bonepicker. And yeah, remember the light at the end of the tunnel. We didn’t show the depressing feeling of being stuck, the feeling of limbo. Hell, I get a cold and I get down. This was a full on bummer. So depressing!!! But. Everything gets better! Thanks for the kind words!
So, hope to see more videos coming from you two. Great filming, great camera, great narration, greatest content! Your videos are literally on a professional level. Hoping to see more videos from you two talented cyclists! SO worth watching! Thank you for sharing!
Hello from Fargo, This chapter had some of the best footage of your trip so far. I am so happy to see that you were able to continue and enjoy all the beauty these trails had to offer. I will look forward to final miles of your great adventure! Carmen
What an awesome trip, even though Covid took some wind out of your sails, you guys stuck with it! Covid stinks we’ve had it a couple time also, it’s a force to be reckoned with! We love your videos and narration, can’t wait until next week Friday🚴🏼♂️💗
I’ve been moving/working on my new place so I was a couple of weeks behind! Tonight I caught up. Wow, did I miss a lot! Such a bummer that Covid caught up with you. Glad for the ways you were able to push through. So inspiring to me. The autumn beauty was breathtaking at every turn. I can only imagine how much more beautiful it was to see it firsthand. Anxious to see the next episode.
As I look back on this one year later I wish I could relive it again. The Covid sucked for sure, but getting through the last stretch was a life high I will never forget. We were both so overcome by the beauty of it all.
The first lake you encountered on the Northern Rail Trail is Mascoma Lake (has a pretty good campground on it sNW shore). Did you see (was there) a rope swing on the trail edge just before you reached the big part of the lake? It was there this summer and I & several other cyclists took the plunge… Also, the Meeting House that was being worked and was on jacks when you went through was in pretty much the same condition in June 2022 😁.
Hey Roland, so many segments of your trip were so idyllic (except for having covid!) that I have been rewatching each segment trying to identify the details of your path. But... not with complete success. Do you think that when you finish this massive video project, you could provide the details of the route that you took (maybe color coded as Wonderful / Good / Not-So-Good and Forget-It!). I am hoping to be able to make a full coast-to-coast ride in 2025 so I have lots of time to plan and dream. I'll be having a hip replacement in a few days and then I must create the control system for a new chemical plant... and then... hopefully... the ride of a lifetime!
Well. I plan to share a video that shows the Route. I do not have a GPX or Komoot to refer to, but it should give you a better idea. However, every inch is rated as Wonderful, except for the parts in Montana, or the parts we missed. I know you’ll have a great ride, I feel like stumbling through it all is part of the fun.
I'm a year late to comment on your video, but I completed the Northern Rail Trail last year in 30 mile round trip out and back segments. The images brought back some enjoyable moments in my mind. Going to do the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail in VT this year with the same strategy.
Hi I really have enjoyed many of your videos. My wife and I have been promoting fitness and health to Canadians for 35 years but only recently started bike touring and we love it. Doing the Gap and C&O last August was wonderful. We are planning several trips next year. My question to you is what are your mental tips for trail riding? I find the riding to be much more mentally demanding than physical. One thing we do is stop every 10km to drink have a bite and soak in the cites. Keep Fit and Have Fun Hal
Thank you Hal. Interesting question. Julianna says it can be extremely difficult mentally, day after day, because you have committed to pushing your body through to the end of a big goal, and sometimes that can feel overwhelming. It's not just about being honest about your own mental and physical fatigue, but you also have to be aware of your partner's state of fatigue or stress, and you need to take care of each other, with good communication. Stay realistic about your abilities and goals. You don't have to do 60 miles a day, if 30 works for you, just do 30. Don't overdo it. give yourself plenty of time to recoup and recover.
@@TheBicycleTourists Thank you, wise words. I have producing our tv show for 35 years Body Break with my wife, we have recently retired but I think I will do some UA-cam videos on our cycling adventures, thanks again for the inspiration! I am a Buffalo, class of 81. Go Buffs!
Good luck with the videos. I used to be in advertising, and wrote and art directed a lot of TV spots in my day, doing this in retirement scratches my creative itch. Very time-consuming, however. It's a real commitment!
@@TheBicycleTourists yes I realize that it will be a big commitment and that is why I am somewhat reluctant to do it. I want to enjoy the rides and be present and not worrying about, Is it backlit do I need a two shot etc. But on the upside, I think it might, slow me down and enjoy the scenery and take it at a slower pace. I realize that it is a balance. I am sure others have commented, but you’ve got a great VO voice. Happy trails.
Thanks again for the kind words. For me, filming really helps me focus, to see the beauty in details and just be more mindful of the world around me. I never worry about the quality, I'll deal with all that when I get home and I have time to putz with it. I felt the same way when I was traveling and taking pictures. the need for perfection in each shot was not helpful and I gave it up. Video seems much more spontaneous. Happy trails!
Remarkable perseverance. Inspiring to watch. Can't wait to see how this ends.
Thank you Steve!

Wow…another great vid….sure going to miss my Friday “Bike Tourin FIX”…thanks for all of your efforts….

Thank you Steven! Some days are meant to be remembered for a lifetime!
I'm so pleased you could both continue. The colors on the ride looked incredible. Also, some beautiful trails and roads to ride on. Well done guys
I absolutely loved this part of the ride, Covid fatigue and all!

We’re finishing up a long ride through France now. Autumn is coming slowly here, even as we head toward Switzerland. Kinda miss the American autumns.

Yes, last year. It took a while to edit. (Obviously!)

Hi. What size of tire do you recommend to use for the northern rail trail? Thx
Ours were like 38 and43, As I recall you could easily ride typical gravel tires but road bikes might struggle.
It’s a crow.
yeah.
