    Stretching exercises before a workout, practice or especially before competitions are not recommenced because they tend to shut down the nervous system and quiet the muscles versus using specific strength training exercises getting the nervous system and muscles excited, activated and ready to perform with explosiveness, power & speed. We would even suggest that performing stretches before competition may actually increase the risk of injuries for everyone concerned about injury prevention.
    While different types of stretches are commonly taught in physical therapy (physiotherapy) they are best used to increase the mobility of a joint or the flexibility of a muscle in rehabilitation but not prior to performance training when we want the athlete to be ready to move their hips explosively to perform the athlete's sport movements.
