@@monsterrr1999 Try approaching local acting clubs if you're near ant towns and ask if they'd like to take part in a video or if there are any individuals interested. If you'd like as well say they can use the video as a promo. You get a little experience and they get a promo out of it. It's worth a shot at least
I somehow got into nyu film by just submitting some of my best writing; its really all about knowing where your strengths lie and showcasing that. I knew I had minimal experience with video editing so I showed them what I could do and somehow... it worked! To anyone thinking of applying next year, remember: dont compare yourself to others! Admissions officers want to see you, so show them what only YOU can do! Good luck!

I never knew I needed this video, but I did. I love it and everything about it. I’m going to be a high school senior this upcoming fall and USC is my dream school. I need more practice with film, of course, and I need to do academically better. I decided that I want to transfer from CC to USC, so I can financially and academically prepare myself in the mean time. Thank you for making this video, it makes me way more hopeful. Alexandra Miracle I'm looking by the side of the screen writing where my imagination is more confident. You can be alone in writing the fantasy and explain your world. But for making the movie you have to be a leader and inspire people to realize your concept/idea. Life is unique creation... Everytime you have to learn, practice, communicate...
And I don't mean to bring bad news, but just keep your minds open to other avenues that may not be filmmaking. Be open to live event, be open to corporate, be open to mograph work, be open to working long hot days out on a soccer field. A pretty small percentage of graduates make it to the film side of the industry (big budget film in LA). Most of us take jobs at businesses creating social media, mographs, edits, and interviews for our jobs now. I personally don't mind. I'll keep making my 0 budget short films for years to come, and I love what I do for my job, but just keep your mind open and be avaliable.
I get what you’re saying and tbh I can’t disagree sometimes your hobby shouldn’t become your job which in this case and my case is filmmaking. Of course I’d love to write films but the percentage chance of that ever happening is extremely low 😂 even with ‘degrees’ so yeah no point setting myself up for disappointment if I don’t get in industry

dude, its rough man. I applied to UCLA, USC, LMU... all these top schools in LA. And I had only ever made ONE SHORT FILM in my entire life, during my junior year. and it sucked. so I submitted everything not knowing what I was getting into. Looking back, I shouldn't have had so much hope because I wasn't truly a filmmaker yet. My passion found me late, and now I'm apparently behind the curve. I didn't have a chance dude, of course, I got rejected from everywhere. But I know that I have the ability to make something great. I just have to learn to utilize my creative side better. idk, let's seem what happens everyone.
Don't worry man! Film schools aren't looking for fully formed filmmakers and many times I've seen freshmen and incoming students come in with that attitude and they're often in for a rude awakening. I'm glad you realize this and I think you're ahead of the curve in this way: attitude is what I believe is what gets you farther than technical skill, especially in this industry. Keep on creating and gaining experience, but also keep that humble and curious attitude you got and I'm positive you'll achieve your goals! Hope to work with you someday!

Thank you so much for this transparent video. Im super stressed out about my decisions, I really went all out on applying, but I just still think my work could not be good enough for some of these schools. In my school everyone, practically everyone would not be productive in our film classes, I felt like an outcast browsing youtube because everyone’s applications seemed so much better. Luckily, we have a good selection of equipment at our school for film, and I was allowed to make a Documentary! That is ultimately what saved me from not having a solid portfolio. I have gone 5/5 on decisions from Unis./Colleges atm. im waiting for about 9 other decisions.. (UCLA & LMU being the more nerve racking ones😣) but im hoping for the best, I really needed this video tho, so again thanks so much :)

Congrats on getting into those schools and congrats on attending Chapman! I get what you were going through. I'm becoming insane every second. I just got accepted into Columbia for Creative Producing and Chapman for the MBA/MFA. I don't know what to do, both programs, schools and cities are so different. It seems like an impossible decision. Besides after kind of crunching the numbers in an excel, the costs are about the same. I hope I can make a good decision soon. Congrats again! Seeing this just helped me, I'm a little bit anxious now.

I really resonated with the part of this video where you're talking about showing them what's going on in our heads, I kinda almost starting tearing up. I'm so scared about my future, and that I might not be able to pursue my passion, but for some reason, I know that I will. It just seems impossible for me to do anything but tell stories. I'm getting to the point of my Junior year where I need to start researching college, and I know I want to go to film school, and this video really pointed me in the right direction. Don't go to film school, there is nothing they can teach you that you can't teach yourself online. I wouldn't be surprised if they go obsolete in the next decade. By the end of our second semester our profs were just showing us UA-cam videos that we already have been watching on our own time. You'll be able to use good cameras, you'll have access to a studio, but you will be learning outdated techniques that they used in their past careers. And remember, if you can't make it, you teach it. So you will be learning from the people who have failed in their careers to begin with. The biggest scam I have witnessed in my life, and it was from Canada's supposed number 1 film school. You are already a filmmaker. Practice your craft constantly as if it were a second job, and you will see yourself improve immensely over time.

Don't go to film school, there is nothing they can teach you that you can't teach yourself online. I wouldn't be surprised if they go obsolete in the next decade. By the end of our second semester our profs were just showing us UA-cam videos that we already have been watching on our own time.
You'll be able to use good cameras, you'll have access to a studio, but you will be learning outdated techniques that they used in their past careers. And remember, if you can't make it, you teach it. So you will be learning from the people who have failed in their careers to begin with. The biggest scam I have witnessed in my life, and it was from Canada's supposed number 1 film school.
You are already a filmmaker. Practice your craft constantly as if it were a second job, and you will see yourself improve immensely over time.
