- UPDATE 5/1/18: Committed to Chapman!
What's up class of 2018! Right now's the time where we wait on edge for our film school application results to roll in, and if you're anything like me, you're probably really nervous. Second semester of our senior year just started and results seem so close yet so far away. I know the struggle's been hard for all of us and that we, as fellow student filmmakers, put our passions in every project we made (even our film school application videos). But hey, don't let that nervousness get a hold of you: the important thing's that we keep on creating rad stuff. So here's to us! Best of luck everyone!

"Feel like trash immediately after watching one made by some kid with a 4K camera and a budget." - exactly my life for the past four months
Claire Guevarra righhhhht!
Claire Guevarra that was exactly how i felt!! i finished my first ever short film and then u looked at others online and i wanted to delete my whole project. luckily i posted it and stayed true to my work and my journey
me right now
My degree course is full of those. Though it's the idea and execution of it with the equipment that you have available that counts.
i literally have no experience with film making, but i know it's what I want to do. I have no idea how to start, but i really needed to hear this, thank you lol.
I am on your level
Use your phone, get 2 friends and record stuff. That easy and lots of UA-cam to learn how to do different things
Jacob Decobba i literally don’t have friends or family supporters so I feel so lost. Count your blessings, tbh.
@@monsterrr1999 Try approaching local acting clubs if you're near ant towns and ask if they'd like to take part in a video or if there are any individuals interested. If you'd like as well say they can use the video as a promo. You get a little experience and they get a promo out of it. It's worth a shot at least
Sameeee
I somehow got into nyu film by just submitting some of my best writing; its really all about knowing where your strengths lie and showcasing that. I knew I had minimal experience with video editing so I showed them what I could do and somehow... it worked! To anyone thinking of applying next year, remember: dont compare yourself to others! Admissions officers want to see you, so show them what only YOU can do! Good luck!
how’s it going?
Omfg almost cried while watching this...I’m going to community college and hopefully transferring to USC since it’s like my dream school and film has been my passion for a long time, but this video hits close to home with how I’ve been feeling lately 😭😭😭
Cara thanks so much! I recently committed to Chapman for their amazing film production flprogram and I'm hype to see what the future holds! Best of luck on your transfer to USC and keep on making awesome films!
Wow that’s great! One of my best friends is going to Chapman too! Best of luck to you my dude !
Best of luck to you too! I hope I get to meet your friend at Chapman!
So uhhh did you get in?
Hey Cara, I am planning to get into Community college and later transfer to UCLA hope so. I saw your comment after 3years and by this time you must have graduated from community college. Would you like to share in which community college you were and how is film and television production program there?
I am planning to get into Pasadena City College and know nothing about their program except what they have uploaded.
"Feel like trash immediately after watching one made by some kid with a 4K camera and a budget." you've got additional sub \m/ haha
This is what I needed, NYU fall 2019 get ready for me
hows it goin?
how’s it going ??
*the world enters it's first pandemic* ala k sad
I really enjoyed this. With college portfolios, scholarship videos, and every other reason to make a video, I really appreciate you creating this simply for yourself and others. Keep creating!
Sam Clegg thanks so much dude! I'm so stoked that this video helped in any way ahaha
I never knew I needed this video, but I did. I love it and everything about it. I’m going to be a high school senior this upcoming fall and USC is my dream school. I need more practice with film, of course, and I need to do academically better. I decided that I want to transfer from CC to USC, so I can financially and academically prepare myself in the mean time. Thank you for making this video, it makes me way more hopeful. All I’ve been doing lately is binge watching application videos
Thanks so much! Its awesome to see that my work is helping people haha I know this college stuff is rough but hang in there cuz I know great things are bound to happen!
How'd it go
This video is so incredibly powerful and moving. Seeing as I'm applying to be a Film and Television major, this hit home (i.e.:seeing other submission videos on UA-cam and thinking to myself "oh no.") but also helped center me and remind me why I love what I do so much-how truly lucky I am to be a storyteller. Thank you.
i've literally been dreaming to be a film student all my life. and well the people around me think that im never gonna make it or never gonna make money, so i started doubting myself but then i watched this video and quickly got up and said to myself the only thing that matters is that my dream must come true. thank you.
Same situation.
This almost made me cry, I am unsure if I want to be a film major but i know I want to be something in that category. And this rlly inspired me
What r u doing now
@@gwsubin I am actually transferring from an agricultural school 💀 to an art school now
Stressing and making my art portfolio lol
This reply comment was coincidentally very perfect timing
so, so good! good luck on all the other decisions (especially USC) and congrats on Chapman!
i'm literally looking up what past people have done for their chapman applications and this came up. This is something I really needed to see. Thank you :)
First off, this video was so completely well edited I loved the fast cuts and the syncing with your voice it was amazing... secondly thank you. Defintley saving this video to come back to once I apply to all the film schools I want to get into.
Hi dude. I always get so nervous thinking about my future in Film. This video made me feel so safe and calm about the uncertainties of this journey. Although this is not an application guide/ tips, this is probably one of the most useful and impactful videos for aspiring film students. Thank you so much for this.
damn. i needed this. After 20 years of appreciating films, I've only realized recently that it's what i want to do with my life. I have a loooot to catch up on. thanks for this!
This was so inspirational! I love this!
This is such an encouraging video and the early decision results of your friends was all too relatable. Thank you for making this!
"Feel like trash immediately after watching one made by some kid with a 4K camera and a budget." me watching this video rn LMAO
this video is all the motivation and inspiration I needed, thank you so much.
ok im crying like a child i really needed this
Awesome video man!
I don't even plan on going to film school, but thank you. As a fellow creative, this video definitely gave me some much-needed encouragement as I wait for college decisions to come out. Keep doing your thing!
I'm still working on my application and portfolio. Hell still gonna make some more films while I'm add it to add to that list. So I'm saving this video for when I need it this upcoming senior year. Thank you for making this!
Thanks for taking the time to make this, it really helps :)

I'm looking by the side of the screen writing where my imagination is more confident. You can be alone in writing the fantasy and explain your world. But for making the movie you have to be a leader and inspire people to realize your concept/idea. Life is unique creation... Everytime you have to learn, practice, communicate...
you're an amazing talented fearless person! Keep doing what you're doing! I believe in you!
currently working on my application videos & really needed this. you're awesome.
i love this so much.thank you
So happy I found this video! I really needed this as an upcoming film student next year. Hope to pass universities! MANIFESTING IT!
3 years ago you made this and im starting to form my portfolio to go to Ringling or at least attempt to go. This video really helped me out and even gave me a little bit of inspiration as to what i want to create. thank you so much
Thank you so much for this transparent video. Im super stressed out about my decisions, I really went all out on applying, but I just still think my work could not be good enough for some of these schools. In my school everyone, practically everyone would not be productive in our film classes, I felt like an outcast browsing youtube because everyone’s applications seemed so much better. Luckily, we have a good selection of equipment at our school for film, and I was allowed to make a Documentary! That is ultimately what saved me from not having a solid portfolio. I have gone 5/5 on decisions from Unis./Colleges atm. im waiting for about 9 other decisions.. (UCLA & LMU being the more nerve racking ones😣) but im hoping for the best, I really needed this video tho, so again thanks so much :)
I’m 3 years late... but THIS. This is what I needed. THANK YOU!
Thank you, I am applying to the usc cinema summer program this year and plan to apply there for college in a few years as well. I have felt everything you have said in your video and it really spoke to me. Keep up the fantastic work
Thanks so much dude! Best of luck on your career and keep on working towards your goals. And dont ever forget to never stop creating!
Even though am not a film student...this video got me tear down from me,
great job bro,love it.
Wish I saw this my senior year. Great video man!
This is one of my favorite film app videos so far!!!
JordanKleinVisuals thank you!! Though I didnt use this video as an application film for colleges, I'm glad you enjoyed!
What a message, Thank you.
Dope video, dude! Well done, I loved the script. Keep up the good work and best of luck in your other application decisions.
Carson Philbin thanks for the support my dude!
I love this video. I’m a senior rn and just applied to film school so I relate so much. This made me really love being a film maker. I’ll hopefully see you at Chapman
Thanks! Best of luck on your applications and always keep on creating!
Woah this was so relatable haha! Love the message and where your heart's at. I'm hoping for film schools too :) Good luck!
joshleongstudios thanks so much man! Good luck on your decisions too, they're coming out soon!
Thank you, this helped boost my confidence a little
this is everything i needed and more.
Me feeling tired and uninspired
Finds this
I needed that, thanks
Damn, I've never thought there would be a motivation video for us(film student), that was so good
This was literally just so inspirational 👏
i really needed that
This motivated the heck out of me
This gel like a valedictorian speech! This was great thank you!
Okay, I'm insanely passionate about filmmaking, and I know that it's all I want to do with my life. I really resonated with the part of this video where you're talking about showing them what's going on in our heads, I kinda almost starting tearing up. I'm so scared about my future, and that I might not be able to pursue my passion, but for some reason, I know that I will. It just seems impossible for me to do anything but tell stories. I'm getting to the point of my Junior year where I need to start researching college, and I know I want to go to film school, and this video really pointed me in the right direction. This was super inspiring and a great time to watch. Keep creating dude, and I'm super excited to see what you'll make.
Man I needed this 🙏🙏🙏 thank you
Thanks for watching!
thank you, thank you so much
Thank you, you really have cheered me up
dude, its rough man. I applied to UCLA, USC, LMU... all these top schools in LA. And I had only ever made ONE SHORT FILM in my entire life, during my junior year. and it sucked. so I submitted everything not knowing what I was getting into. Looking back, I shouldn't have had so much hope because I wasn't truly a filmmaker yet. My passion found me late, and now I'm apparently behind the curve. I didn't have a chance dude, of course, I got rejected from everywhere. But I know that I have the ability to make something great. I just have to learn to utilize my creative side better. idk, let's seem what happens everyone.
Don't worry man! Film schools aren't looking for fully formed filmmakers and many times I've seen freshmen and incoming students come in with that attitude and they're often in for a rude awakening. I'm glad you realize this and I think you're ahead of the curve in this way: attitude is what I believe is what gets you farther than technical skill, especially in this industry. Keep on creating and gaining experience, but also keep that humble and curious attitude you got and I'm positive you'll achieve your goals! Hope to work with you someday!
@@KimFilm ay, thanks man I dig your spirit. your comment made me smile, thank you. you also seem like a pleasant person to work with, maybe someday our paths will cross.
Thanks for making me feel a little less stressed and relieved about College
Thank you for this ❤️
Congrats on getting into those schools and congrats on attending Chapman! I get what you were going through. I'm becoming insane every second.
I just got accepted into Columbia for Creative Producing and Chapman for the MBA/MFA. I don't know what to do, both programs, schools and cities are so different. It seems like an impossible decision. Besides after kind of crunching the numbers in an excel, the costs are about the same.
I hope I can make a good decision soon. Congrats again! Seeing this just helped me, I'm a little bit anxious now.
Thanks so much for watching man! And congrats on your acceptances! I'm finishing up my first year at Chapman's Dodge college for film production, and I gotta say the grad programs here are great! As far as I know, Columbia's grad program is top tier so that one is an awesome choice too! Best of luck in your decision my dude!
This is the best, this really helped me. You earned a sub, currently waiting months to get a response if I got in while watching other people’s applications. Appreciate it! 🙌🏼
this is so beautiful
:27 to :46 is literally what I'm doing right now. It's good this video popped up to put an end to that
I am excited.
I'm not even applying for film school, but even so, this motivated me to be calm about my inexistant applications for school
"Damn, this looked better when I was writing it." is too relatable I had to rewatch it 4 times
Good luck!
Jack Barrie thanks bro!
Needed this
And I don't mean to bring bad news, but just keep your minds open to other avenues that may not be filmmaking. Be open to live event, be open to corporate, be open to mograph work, be open to working long hot days out on a soccer field. A pretty small percentage of graduates make it to the film side of the industry (big budget film in LA). Most of us take jobs at businesses creating social media, mographs, edits, and interviews for our jobs now.
I personally don't mind. I'll keep making my 0 budget short films for years to come, and I love what I do for my job, but just keep your mind open and be avaliable.
I get what you’re saying and tbh I can’t disagree sometimes your hobby shouldn’t become your job which in this case and my case is filmmaking. Of course I’d love to write films but the percentage chance of that ever happening is extremely low 😂 even with ‘degrees’ so yeah no point setting myself up for disappointment if I don’t get in industry
Bruh. This is exact;y what I need to hear.
So cute! Love this positivity!
Hey man I really hope you do amazing out there and I meet you in the industry one day. I was on the same boat with USC being the dream school
thanks kim

Congrats man! Hopefully I'll see you around next year! And ofc my folks were stoked when I got in, chapman's the bomb when it comes to film!
I love this
Although I only graduate high school next year, I keep thinking to myself "What do I want to do in life after" I really have no clue but after a lot of thinking I think I've chosen film/writing ( so i'm thinking maybe screen writing ). Thing is I really have no skills in filming and writing, I know nothing about cameras or famous directors. I am completely lost.
i really needed to hear this, thank you. by the way I also attended VidCon and immediately recognized that footage! awesome :))
Not going to lie hit the nail right on the head with the first few mins. I'm sitting here thinking yup thats exactly what I'm doing.
This rlly hit the spotz😭
wow im so inspired
let's Showww themmmm!!!
Emm what?? A motivational video about film making that is ACTUALLY good?
*N O I C E*
I can heavily relate to this as someone who isn't studying film nor applied to film schools or did anything related to art/film in high school... 10/10
Damn you have character AND you can express that in your videos. Thats not easy. Should have been accepted to everywhere you applied.
Couldnt have said it better 👏🏻👏🏻
