I have been struggling in this topic. Very helpful and much more relatable examples than others have tried to explain. Thanks!!

Labeling cooperate as the side that stays quiet is very confusing in my brain. If you say someone is cooperating in a situation like this that means they're 'cooperating' with the interrogation/police, not staying quiet. Great video though

While I understand what you are saying, this situation involves two individuals whose integrity is in serious doubt. What if you flipped around where two people will be rewarded for altruistic behavior?

I’m not trying to be rude, rather just informative.
The game works out in a very interesting manner, especially over multiple iterations. Actually, altruism is rewarded and this game theory has been used to show how cooperation naturally evolves (likely a better name is interactive theory) - on the popular level see veritasium’s video on the prisoners dilemma and on the academic see “Forgiveness” edited by McCullough, Paragament, & Thorensen

people who describe all human behavior as inherently self-interested are the worst kinds of people. also your haircut makes you look 12 years old.. is your boyfriend into that kind of thing?
