One of the sexiest songs of all time with no vulgar lyrics and no one humping anything in the video
Hall & Oates are the top selling duo of all time. Such great harmonies and musicianship.
Pretty sure they are 2nd, but Simon & Garfunkel are definitely the #1 selling duo by Billboard.
@@mokumboi19 Looks like we're dealing in semantics. Simon and Garfunkel are listed as the top selling folk-rock duo. Hall and Oates are listed as the top selling rock duo of all time.
@@thomasgill2358 Most recent tallies I could find:
S&G = 61M records sold
H&O = 45M records sold
I always thought it was Brooks & Dunn that number one knocking Hall and oats to number two.
@@davidellis7786 Best I can tell, they are around 30 million albums worldwide. Obviously, almost all of that is in the US. From what I can find, The Carpenters are the #3 selling duo, Brooks & Dunn #4.
The "musicians" of today could learn a thing or two from Hall and Oates; a beautiful message of sensuality without the use of one vulgarity.
Daryl Hall is easily one of the greatest, yet most underrated voices of the late 70s/early 80s.
I agree!
I hope your 2023 has had a great start so far
Daryl Hall has got such a great voice. And you can always hear those classic soul influences coming through.
Criminally underrated vocalist.
Hall & Oates are terribly under appreciated.
Daryl Hall's voice floats from note to note like a hummingbird darts from flower to flower. In the high register, he is spontaneous, but never random.
*Joanne/Asia* Yeah,I Think they Loosely Call it his "False"
Ok....poetic lady
Daryl's voice is at times, almost ethereal. It floats, he's got soul.
Hall had the best hair in the 80's in Rock and Roll, and Oates had the best moustache!
One of the best groups of the 80's. Great time to grow up.
Hamish from the original Average White Band line up may have a better falsetto range than Daryl Hall. Check out the AWB's song Cloudy, from their live Person to Person album. Hamish shows his amazing range!! Terrific live song too!
Daryl Hall has the kind of voice that makes a good girl wanna go bad.
🎯 🎯🎯
And a bad girl wanna stay bad….
Daryl's Voice Description..........Nothing short of SOULFUL!! He even describes their music as Rock 'N Soul!!
His voice is crystal clear.
I think I would describe Daryl Hall's voice as "soulfully mellow", "jazzy-smooth", or "tempered funk", it depends on the nature of the song arrangement that he is singing over. Whatever a particular track requires of his voice, Hall has a knack for supplying exactly what the song needs to take it to that next level in the stratosphere. He and his bandmates were a perfect fit, that's why their music was always so darn good! :)
Yes!❤
They dominated the 80s
I love Hall & Oates! Private Eyes and Maneater are some of my favorites from my childhood!
Here’s your smile for today! 😊
I grew up in the 80s and 90s and both were MONSTER decades for music. Hall and Oates were AMAZING
Imo this is one of the sexiest songs ever written. Hall n Oates are definitely in my top five all time fav groups. There’s really nothing like them. Soooo much talent on every end. And Hall is just a born song writer
His voice is a legit unique instrument. His voice is a gift. If you want to see a revealing vid watch the “Live at Daryl’s house” clip with Smokey Robinson/Daryl Hall singing “Sara Smile” and then morphing into “Ooh baby baby”. The soul is seamless between those two legendary soul singers and those two legendary songs.
His voice is smooth as butter....absolutely love Hall & Oats!
❤Hard to overstate how huge these guys were…absolutely ruled the charts in the early eighties. Live at Daryl’s House also a great show if you want to explore all kinds of great artists. Yes Amber…both of ya’ll were blushing. 🎉 Your genuine smiles there were priceless.
Live at Daryl's house is fantastic. Here he is with the O'Jays . ua-cam.com/video/iqQ32O7pnKg/v-deo.html
It's Live at Daryl's House and, yes, it's fantastic!
Those 70s greats are still hanging in there! Kep it going, guys and galls!
Oh that was awesome
They are such great live performers
I love Daryl Hall's voice so much! John Oates compliments him so perfectly.
Blue eyed soul at it's best. Their version of 'you've lost that loving feeling' is my favourite one. Peace out.
Hall & Oats we’re my favorite songsters in the 70s and 80s! They certainly were the blue eyed soul brothers! Every song had rhyme and soul a definite what do you say VIBE!
Just an FYI, Darryl Hall despises the term "blue eyed soul". There is an in-depth interview with him about that and his explanation is quite eloquent.
@@TritoneChris ….send me a link to that… actually it’s a complement!
Somebody, somewhere, is not going to like something some people say. As long as it's not said with malice, that's cool. Peace out.
@@christopherbarnett6098 …thanks for that .. makes sense to me😃
Daryl Hall wrote this song for their 11th studio album H20 In 1983. The beautiful drum beat, saxophone, along with synthesizer and blended harmonies make for a sure hit.
The lyrics incorporate various sport metaphors to describe seduction. So clever. Vocals over the moons, standard for Hall and Oates. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
I didn't realize this song had sports metaphors in it. Learn something new every day; thanks! :)
HaHa! I was going to say his hair looks just like 1983!
The bassline is my favorite.
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT Yes, he sure was.
@@NoName-fx9zi Maybe you should listen to your imagination Daryl Holmes John Oates doesn't good but there's a version from daryl's house hes got some good looking blonde and d*** nice sounds good doing it your imagination at Darrell's house
Darryl has a sultry quality to his voice. and the harmony with John is sublime. Every song they had was a hit. And the variety of their music, never-ending. I don't think they ever had a bad song. "Adult Education" is gr8 and "Maneater".
Sultry and sensual Amber 😊
Daryl Hall's voice on this song is smooth as silk. Incredible song, so glad you liked it!
This is definitely one of the most R&B tunes delivered by Hall & Oates. I think you’d love their rendition of You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling. And now that you are appreciating Hall & Oates, you should really revisit She’s Gone … I think you’ll enjoy it much more now.
Maybe one of the best voices ever. He can sing anything
Mentioned before, but Daryl Hall still is very active in the music scene. He invites artist to his house and they jam out. It's called live at Daryl's House.
Thinking brings back a lot of good memories! His vocals on this is crazy!!
My favorite Hall and Oates song. There is nothing better than slow dancing to this!
My favorite song also. I was fortunate to see them years ago in Germany when I was in the Air Force.
They were H U G E
.. back in the day..
Don't hear nearly enough of them today. Mega hits
My favorite Hall and Oates song, hands down. Way too smooth with such a nasty groove!
Great song that gets overlooked ❤
Way too often. Watching Daryl do this song live on that tour was awesome! He took that song to another level in conceert!
His voice sounds so effortless.
So silky smooth....he goes off on amazing vocal riffs and makes it look like it's no big deal.
Sensual.
John Oates's vocals shouldn't be discounted either! I always tell people to check out their cover of "You Lost That Lovin' Feeling", he sounds so smooth!
The higher registers that Daryl Hall is singing at in this song is called FALSETTO, boys & girls. And he has always had an amazing ability to slide into it easily from lower octaves.
I gotta create a Hall & Oates playlist on my Spotify now. Thanks, y’all!
Made it look like the most natural thing in the world to make the changes so smoooothly, too. His vocal riffs are legendary, IMHO.
No shit sherlock 😄
yeah he is a rare artist that can use falsetto without really sounding falsetto because he hits it so sharp. Just crazy good.
One on One has always been my favorite song of theirs. 😊
another group who ruled the charts in the late 70s but especially in the early 80s...love this song
Daryl Hall has one of the most sultry voices in popular music. It is so distinctive and sultry. I think his and John Oates' voices blend so well. Check out their hit Possession Obsession, one of those rare hits led by John. I love them, they are the best of "blue-eyed soul"! ❤❤
Yes, great call. That’s such a good song and Oates did his thing on that one.
One of their best slow jams, for sure. Hall & Oates' voices always blended so beautifully. I hope you'll react to their single 'Wait For Me' or maybe 'Go Solo'. Thanks for the video.
Hall and Oats original version of EVERY TIME YOU GO AWAY As Soon As Possible!!!
Halls voice in one word: Mellifluous!
THE most successful duo of ALL time. 🎼🎵
Saw their live performance a few times. If you can believe it they are even better in person. They add some extra spice to their music. Great duo! Ultra-talented.
I agree. Saw them at Budokan in the 80's. Wonderful show!
Agree - saw them in a nice small theater, blown away. Oates' voice shockingly good.
agreed. my parents took me to see them in person as a kid
I've been a huge Hall & Oates fan from their beginning. So good live. In addition to their vocals, the musicianship is off the charts! You could do a lot of videos on Hall & Oates!
Aren't you so much happier after hearing a H&O song??? That's what I like from them. They are so good that make you happier anytime 🙂
Same thing with Huey Lewis & the News, in a complete different style. I really love these 80's bands, so much.
Regards from Chile!!
🙂 Happy New Year!!!
J & Amber, you;ll love their "Adult Education" and "Maneater" !!!!
“Am I blushing” best line ever!
I am STILL a huge fan of Hall & Oates ❤ did you ever react to their song “Maneater” or “Family Man”? Two more for the list 😂
Hope they do, great songs
Yay, so glad you guys did this one! J, I saw you start for that pause button but then you waited a minute, good for you! And Amber, I could see you melting (just like I do when I hear this....great video too, eh?)
It's called Natural...his upper octave bis no nasal, first note is not jarring or loud, he doesn't have to be loud to maintain it either. Totally smooth, it's as natural as his speaking voice!
I LOVE everything Hall and Oates made, but Sara Smile, and One on One are my favorites. Smooth as Silk. I just love them!
"Everytime You Go Away", with powerful lead vocals by Hall, who wrote it. British singer Paul Young had a Billboard Number 1 hit with a cover of the song in 1985. Though the Hall and Oates original (recorded in a Memphis-soul style) was never released as a single, it remains a fan favorite on the duo's greatest hits albums, and was featured on their Apollo Theater album in 1985, and is frequently featured in their live set to this day.
Heard this song hundreds of times. Never knew it was called “One on One”. Always thought he was just saying “want I want I wanna play that game tonight”
I karaoke'd this a few years back. A mother-beautiful song. The sax solo is the most beautiful in rock.
Hall and Oats is a songwriting powerhouse! They have so many Top 10 hits it's crazy! Finally saw them in Chicago a few years back, with Tears For Fears as the opening act. It was just an amazing and great double bill!
When I was a young lady back in the day, I loved old school funk, R&B, Disco and absolutely loved Daryl Hall & John Oates. I wasn't too into rock or anything else so I didn't understand why they stood out to me. Of course after I began working in radio I finally understood why I loved them so much. Finally understood what genres meant. They were my kind of music. Still love them to this day.
One of my favorite duos of the 80s. The H20 album was brilliant!!!
One of Daryl Hall’s most beautiful vocals, puts it over like he’s just talking to you, perfect! Great harmonies from John too!
If you wanna hear them rock out, check out "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid." Very underrated tune.
There's a song, I don't know if you know it called "Romeo Is Bleeding", it's very underrated too, and it's great!
Wow I haven't heard that song in a minute. I forgot how much I really liked it. So many hits and just great songs by them.
The bass guitar is the unsung hero in this song.
The choices the bass player is making are gorgeous especially in the chorus.
My favorite part to listen to in this song.
This and Sara Smile are my faves. I Can't Go For That is a certified party anthem 🙌🏾
I was just waiting for Jordan's reaction to that first falsetto note😃. His joy of hearing those notes is like the joy Amber has hearing the horn section in songs.😄
I know you love the song "Me and Mrs. Jones", and they have an awesome cover of that song you might want to check out.
Number one all time duo. Their string of hits is amazeballs! Pay close attention to the background harmonies,,, Not too mention ball the songs they wrote for others. Every Time U Go, by Paul Young, as an example...
“And when you move in close a little bit means so much”
One of my favourites lyrics in a love song!
Smiling! And we all need more sax. Thanks for keeping great music alive!
Hall's voice can turn dumpster fire to smooth honey
Daryl Hall has one of the best voices of the 80's, hands down! SUCH SOUL!!!! As a 70's & 80's music junkie, you know all of their music is good when I own their greatest hits album.
😊❤ Both their voices can make you melt or blush !
There is a 12inch single extended mix of this, that makes the song even better, the drum machine has a lot more bass groove and the mix allows the song more space to breathe
I have that version and you're absolutely right about the drum and bass groove - great call! Truthfully, H20 is a criminally underrated album of theirs, especially some of the non-hits like "Guessing Games" and "At Tension."
It's here on YT
My favorite song of theirs. His voice, the beat… ❤❤
Still gives me goosebumps. 🔥 Baby makin’’ music.
BOTH ABSOLUTE Classics,, Hall & Oates "Las Vegas Turnaround" (The Stewardess Song) & "When The Morning Comes"
This band is EXCELLENT. You just don't get how exceptionally talented every single band member is, especially Daryl Hall. The best way to describe his voice is simply this... the perfect blue-eyed soul voice just like you said, Amber. There are so many great blue-eyed soul singers, but my top 3 are: 1)Daryl Hall 2) Michael McDonald and 3) Michael Bolton.
I would describe it as sultry, airy, effortless, sexy. Darryl makes such interesting vocal choices, and I really can’t think of another artist, especially a male, that can effortlessly do what he does. He’s feeling that music, and it sells the song.
Many may have forgotten, but this was the theme of the NBA season that year.
Hall & Oates had so much respect in the hood growing up. So naturally soulful!
Checkout "Method Of Love"
Love Hall and Oates
Hall is one of the greatest lyricist of the 20th century. There is a hidden quality to his writing. Note that the words he uses, the end and beginning syllables slide together. You don't need to rearrange your lips to get to the next sound: "One on One I wanna" and "I'll pay the devil to replace her, she's gone, she's gone" and countless other combinations smoothly transition the lips and tongue from word to word. Pure poetry and genius from a syllabic point of view..
Ooo why you try to put up a front for me (Private Eyes)
Hall & Oates are amazing. You need to listen to "Sara Smile" again! You will appreciate Darryl Hall`s voice even more.
One on One and Sara Smile are 2 of my favorite pop songs, beautifully written sentiments sung by one of top few singers.
Blue- eyed Soul at its best!!! They were great!!!
This is quintessential eighties hard to believe this song is about to be 40 years old it's aged gracefully ,& beautiful It was a top 10 pop hit, R&B & adult. Contemporary
One of my favorites of Hall and Oates. Smooth!!!
Daryle Hall, Blue Eyed Soul brother #1! One of my favorite Hall & Oats tracks and one of my favorite from THE 80’s!
So darn good. It makes me appreciate it even more now that 40 years have gone. It's a soothing reminder of my youth.😮💨
I was fortunate to see Hall & Oates in concert in 1984...dating myself. But it was one of the best concert I've ever seen! Daryl Hall's falsetto runs at the end are elite!
One of my faves!!
Maybe my favorite of theirs.. You just can't go wrong with any of their stuff.
One of the sexiest songs of the 80s. Some memories right there. And, yes, I did have Daryl Hall's haircut -- which makes me smile... and laugh! The things you could do with mousse back then!
Daryl Halls mom was a vocal coach…I wonder if she helped polish his great voice! Such great 80’s hs memories with watching them on OG MTV!
Personally Sarah Smile is my fav of theirs.
Absolute classic! Takes me all the way back to middle school!
Darryl is a genius and his vocals are tecnically perfect.
Yeah. He makes me blush too Amber. ☺️. A few years back I saw Hall & Oates and Tears For Fears together in concert. Yeah. ❤️
My father used to refer to them as the Philly Crooners. Dad was from Philadelphia and so were Hall and Oates. They went to Temple, the same as dad, but many years later. Love these guys.
Along with Sara smile this is probably my favorite Hall and Oates song.
Another incredible song I need to mention is Elvis Costello's Beyond Belief. He is all over the scale. Fantastic. It's a trip trying to keep up with his vocal gymnastics. A must hear.
It's smooth timeless felt an sang with such soul an heart an with this effortless control of his voice
“Go Solo” is one of my favorites by Hall & Oates but they just have so many good ones that it’s hard to even pick favorites
Blue-eyed soul brothers at their best!
