@@rahmadgerpolnot really, they used a peugeot 908 in 2010, like pescarolo did in 2009. You know...french teams getting a shot with a french diesel car
Immediately took a liking to them because of their cool liveries and a cool team name and the fact they had the balls to challenge Toyota with essentially just a super buffed lmp2 and be competitive is a respectable effort.
We're still a motorsport team just once a year we run the Dakar Rally now using 2 Toyota Hilux rally trucks. Also forgot to mention that Rebellion won back to back Petit Le Mans races in 2012-2013. Also a lot of people seem to forget that Rebellion ran a Spyker GT2 car
Thank you for the corrections! I wasn’t aware at the time that Rebellion raced in Dakar past 2021, as multiple sites claimed 2021 was the only year of Dakar participation. Noted for future videos though. As for Petit Le Mans, I was aware of their wins but focused more on the subject of Le Mans and WEC for this video. Possibly for next Rebellion video, I will mention the wins as it is an interesting fact.
The R13 is probably my favourite LMP1 car ever (including the hybrids). Big aero, lightweight, relatively simple & a high-revving NA engine. Might've not been the most successful but tht doesn't change my opinion on it. Also the Le Mans art car liveries are bomb af imo.
I always found the Rebellion team an interesting brand of a racing team, especially since they have that British badge of TVR on their race car! Not to mention that their racing team logo looked like one of those fidget spinners that kids played a lot back then. 😅 I also loved how you mentioned that the Rebellion “rebelled against the all conquering Japanese manufacturer” because it was true! They may not have defeated Toyota, but they certainly tried giving them a fight that’s for sure.
I’ve always loved this team since I first laid eyes on them, they took the racing to heart and never backed down from any motorsport giant. They kept fighting when others broke down and pulled out. This team was the definition of an underdog story, always fighting and pushing on no matter what. It’s unfortunate that they won’t compete in the Hypercar class (for now) but their impact and legacy in the LMP1 class will always be carried through generations of teams and people to come. Hope they come back at some point as they still post about their LMP1 and Dakar adventures. No matter what happens, this team will always live in my heart as the best LMP1 privateer team that came through the WEC. Long Live Rebellion.
Been a fan of Rebellion since 2009. Coolest team out there for sure. I almost got into the garage at le mans when Guy Smith was still driving in the team. Unfortunately he was dropped or he left a couple months before the race...
Man I miss Rebellion. So good looking, good sounding car. And the only... well... rebellion against the Toyota titan. The 2018 car was the most beautiful LMP car ive seen in a long time.
I was always a fan of Jordan in F1 so when I got into sports cars Rebellion seemed like a great team to support. Love an anarchic underdog! Miss these guys
Awesome video. Only know Rebellion as a watch manufacturer and sponsor in Dakar. Nice to see them in other events having a team. Awesome liveries. Keep up the good work.
I'm curious as to how the 2018 Le Mans 24 would've gone had it have Audi and Porsche. There could've been a fantastic battle between the LMP1-H cars and the LMP1-L cars(considering Rebellion, while good, had competition against SMP, DragonSpeed, ByKolles, and TRSM Racing). I do wish that Rebellion was able to get some sort of support in Hypercar with a manufacturer joining on so they could compete, they always had good drivers like Bruno Senna, Thomas Laurent, Andre Lotterer, Gustavo Menezes, and Neel Jani.
Great presentation FJ. I always liked Rebellion and often thought they punched above their weight. My favourite Rebellion moment was Gustavo Menezes qualifying lap at Le Mans in 2020. He clocked in the 3:15s which is one of the fastest laps ever at circuit de la sarthe. I don’t think enough was made of that. And although it pains me to say this, Andre Lotterer, my favourite driver, has won 3 Le Mans, not 4. Let’s hope he can rectify that next month🙏
Great Video I would love to see Rebellion Racing again in Endurance Racing there Liveries were Fantastic. And some storries about Le Mans Teams and there History is a very good idia. What Iam interestet in why Ginetta is no more Racing at Le Mans There G60-LT-P1 was a very beautiful car in my opinion maybe the most beautiful LMP1 ever build
Great story, great content :) I was looking live at the rebellion 2nd place, it was a pleasure to see a toyota beaten :D Also I did not know that the Alpine in Hypercar 2022 was a Rebellion underneath !!
Thank you for making this video, i been waiting a long time for this video and it was worth the wait Great Job! And my favorite one is defenetly the 2020 Le Mans aero R13
My top memory? A chance event in Austin, TX, that cost very little to attend. Entranced by that R13 livery and being in attendance for their last overall win (even with EoT in effect). I will never not love hearing more about this group.
Just the fact that the car itself got 4 victories over toyota with 2 different teams says how fast the car really was. On the plus side, the age of the car didn't seem to matter as much as it was able to take the fight to toyota during the first 2 years of hypercar. With Alpine returning to the top class next year I can't wait to see what their new car is going to look like
Very nice video. 🙂 I've always been a fan of Rebellion Racing. Couple of things.... You should have mentioned the engine that power the 2010 cars. The glorious and simply awesome sounding 6l V12 from the Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 car. Also they won the Petit Le Mans ALMS race twice in 2012 & 2013 And at last: omg i completely forgot about the Lotus LMP1 car 😅
2:48: This was somewhat a harbinger of things to come a few years later. The car qualified and finished behind diesel turbocharged Audis and Peugeots, at a deficit of 7 seconds lap. This was the first hybrid but normally aspirated so that it was hopelessly uncompetitive for even a podium finish at LeMans.
What was really behind the decision to leave motorsports was the decision by the parent company, Rebellion Corporation to go in other directions. This was probably because the costs to run a factory operation will be many times than running a "privateer" operation. Rebellion is a Swiss maker of watches and time pieces. Rebellion Racing was a subsidiary which I suspect the company bought from Speedy and Sabah in 2009 or 2010. It was intended to be a marketing tool for the company's watches. I suspect that in the ten plus years the company owned the team, it produced a lot of positive publicity and sales. I don't think any of us would have ever known there is a Rebellion watch if not for this endeavor.
Rebellion was one of my favourite teams while they were racing (especially after Audi left), mainly for their liveries and how they went up against the big brands. Their 2011 red and gold livery was my favourite livery of their's and also their art car livery just was so different for an LMP1, with most art cars being GTs like the BMW in 2010, the Aston in 2015 or the Corvette in 2017. Even though they aren't a partner anymore but I would like to think the Peugeot 9X8 Le Mans livery is a slight homage to the Rebellion art car.
U forgetting 1 critical point and the reason they left WEC. Theyre collab with TVR failed. If it would had succeed we would have a TVR Rebellion hypercar now.
Didn't Rebellion run at least one or two races in the American le Mans Series? I'm pretty sure that's where I first found out about them. Maybe it was the Unified Sports Car Series?
i hope come back to WEC and Le Mans and join in hypercar claas and also partnership with ferrari and indonesian idol group, JKT48 to become JKT48 X Rebellion Racing. For Drviers Line Up, I Hope Rio Haryanto, Sean Gelalel, Mick Schumacher/Nicholas Latifi
Rebellion was to Toyota what Pescarolo was to Audi. They fought against giants with valiance, and that's why people respect and love them.
get me some real big buckets, im gonna get really emotional after reading that
Or Oreca Matmut was to Peugeot???

They did for a brief time, taking wins at Road Atlanta in 2012 and 2013. But it wasn’t long since it later turned into IMSA.
You got it incorrectly about the Oreca build Rebellion. The design was paid for by Rebellion and later used on the 05.
I think the way I stated it probably should’ve been elaborated more. But the Rebellion chassis does share the same monocoque as the 05 Oreca.
