Reminds me of when I worked with a dismantler in the mid 70s. We had in a Morris 1100 with a bit of a corrosion problem - when I let out the clutch the front moved two inches before the back started moving. It was only the roof and exhaust pipe holding the front and back together, but it still had 6 months valid MoT!
Basket case if ever I saw one, I know there seems to be an irrational fondness for old Fords but this one should be allowed to rust in peace! Great that you managed to haul it out, and I love Claire's commentary
After the famous Bangers & Cash Surf Blue 1965 Austin Cooper S that looked in similar condtion ended up in mint condtion and repaired rather than re-shelled , keep tabs on whoever considers worthwhile taking this Escort Sport on ! .Great video as usual .
They managed to save more of that cooper s than they thought they would but it was a Mk 1 cooper s worth £60.000 when finished, This Escort concours would only be worth 20 grand it would cost more than that to do it so economically not worth it.
Great video, Claire and Elton, with all of the panels being remade and the demand. It looks like it can be restored or even reshelled. The fact that it's a 1300 sport should help it ❤
Good night Claire and Eltoni ,love watching your you tube videos on your you tube channel I hope both of you are well and enjoying your adventures finding UK barn finds I had a 2 door mafk 1 eacort I drove it around with out passing my driving test then a neighbours tree fell on it but a friend of dads need it for a kit car please keep safe and warm please keep up your good work up on your you tube channel
As an old git who was a teenager when this car was new, I find it incredible that someone would consider this salvageable. I have literally scraped cars that were a thousand times more solid than this. How times change.
Great play by play announcing by Claire! Good bramble removing by Elton! That deserves a 9 points out of 10. I was wondering you were going to go back and get anymore of those cars. Thanks for sharing. Always great to have a Friday night video from the two of you. Cheers
Couldn't quite believe it when the P/S rear wheel was turning, but also couldn't believe that the front stayed attached for the entire maneuver! Whoever takes that on has very deep pockets!
'Nothing dodgy about that at all' says Elton. Well the video was good for comedy effect if nothing else. Maybe If I were young I might have saved this on the other hand when i was young these were everywhere though granted not so many of the 'Sport' versions. I hope for Elton's sake someone does decide to save this car or should that be a greenhouse? Thanks for the video and for the running commentary from Claire. Elton did a great job too even if he sounded a bit grumpy at times! 👍👍
One of them may be salvageable. Unfortunately, some of the cars had scrap markers on them, so we can’t sell them at auction and we don’t break cars. I fear they may have to go to scrap.
I had the exact same car as my first car same Seabring red, massive job there restoring it, would outstrip the value of the car, when I got mine I was learning how to paint and gave it a full respray, turned out nice
There was lots of potential for customisation I bought my 1300GT back in the 80's it was all in red oxide primer but later resprayed Roman Bronze. It burned well some years later when it caught fire. I was driving a way from a scrap yard after buying another better grille for it. Puff of smoke and it was gone.🙄
@@sugaryawroc I had a small engine fire on a MK2 Estate, luckily I was going back to the workshop when it happened, perishes fuel line caused it, was luck when I popped the bonnet up, grabbed the hose and put it out, worst damage was a bit of paint and HT leads and the distributor cap
Wow I am amazed it didn't snap in two. Well done Elton, I wonder if concidering the rarity if it would be worth saving but my heart feels it would be a donor.
@@UKBarnFinds Yes us Fordies are a breed apart lol. Good luck to whomever takes it on. Sadly I will not attend the NEC again. In March 23 I took TeeCee to the MK3 Cortina stand and took cash with me. I had no food and the food outlets refused to serve me because I only had cash.
I suspect the only original bit of that when it's 'restored' will be the VIN plate. Personally I have no problem with that though, if it puts another classic on the road.
Great commentary. All those brambles being dragged off the car as Elton was winching it reminded me of very spiky and angry versions of the streamers that people used to throw at departing ocean liners. They just didn't want to let go! 😊👍
I see there is a Rover SDI, you should give Tasty Classic's a heads up. I believe he wants to do up one of those in the future. Could be good content for a future production. Unless you have got plans for the Rover.
Amazing to think I owned three of these two were basic Ford Escort Mk1's and one other was My Ford Escort Mk1 1300 GT. Roman Bronze. Lost the GT1300 which caught fire. Excellent motors, with the cross flow engine. Watching this and seeing that Escort gave an odd twinge. 😎
That Renault has been my nemesis. The underneath is so sharp (and the rear end has collapsed) that it chewed through a load of straps when I moved it previously.
I had a k reg 1300GT red .. had chrome window trim etc , sport was a cheaper bare last version , i don't think any had the separate rev counter gauge??? As it had dial dash
first video i have watched, seems interesting i have subbed because your bird has such a sexy voice... [testing the water here] do you fix them, or do you find a good home for them ? top tip from an old recovery lad, always carry a sturdy broom, poke it under the exhaust when winching, as it takes ages for your fingers to grow back..
Save the glass....vin plate and gearbox.....and scrap the rest of it, it would be cheaper and easier to reshell that car.....and then you've got to find all of the other 1300 sport bits.....Good luck to the next owner.
Anyone know the location of Aladdin's lamp? Mind you, that front end hung on - and that was a bit of a miracle in itself! I thought you'd end up with rear end, cockpit and a firewall, with the front wings and suspension waving goodbye from the brambles. Well, if she gets restored, then it's all worth while, isn't it?
I love to see that restored properly, maybe it can with care, I think as long as bulkhead/firewall is intact and transmission tunnel, it’s doable without a reshell? Not an expert though!
MMMMM........I believe the Essie body shells are worth a lot of money, but this one, really? I could be completely wrong, probably am. Who is going to buy it, don't know. Fair play to you for your successful efforts in rescuing it. Oh and well done on the research. Its such a lovely classic vehicle though.
elton and clare, if you think that escort is rusty, watch this video of when me and a mate bought a 1961 moggy that had been sat outside for 35 years! it was only the drivetrain that stopped it snapping in half! but it had a good try at it! ua-cam.com/video/5yx_MGkY1iU/v-deo.htmlsi=1V9VD3FISPJ56DYD
You have to ask yourself this question, if its having new panels, or even a new shell, and then you add a replacement engine and front wheels, isn’t this car going to be a little like Triggers Broom. “Yeah that brooms lasted 10 years, its only ever had 3 new heads, and two handles”. You might just as well have built a new Escort from available parts, rather than arse about with this rust bucket. 😂👍
Really not worth it they were never any good even when new. I have no idea about the obsession with "slow" fords. Some person with to much money and no brains might do something. However with no engine etc it will cot 50 to 60 grand and be worth 20.

That’s frightening!
yep the only thing holding that POS together was the vin and the prop !!!
Friday night, and Elton shows us his rear entry techniques with an old escort! (another fab video 🙂 )
Haha! Someone will have to go some to beat that comment 😂
Basket case if ever I saw one, I know there seems to be an irrational fondness for old Fords but this one should be allowed to rust in peace! Great that you managed to haul it out, and I love Claire's commentary
Sad but true. I think some things are just beyond repair.
Irrational fondness, you have no idea.
A new bulk head and 2 new front inners then simply replace every other panel and your good to go
I like that "Rust In Peace" Haha good one 😝

We’ve removed a few that weren’t filmed, too. Sadly, some of them achieved very little at auction. We’re still hopeful to get some more saved, though.
Couldn't quite believe it when the P/S rear wheel was turning, but also couldn't believe that the front stayed attached for the entire maneuver! Whoever takes that on has very deep pockets!
Aye, a bit more effort and he could have driven it on.😊
Lovely video and commentary 😊 hope you save this gem and get it back on the road for all to enjoy 😊😊😊

Another one saved, these Escorts can be rebuilt with the amount of panelwork available now & you can even buy a new MST Escort now

I won't be surprised if that makes a couple of thousand at auction. Well worth the effort.
Great video & incredibly well done, great decoding of the vin plate
Thank you. Really glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for watching 😁 I love researching cars and their history, it’s one of my favourite parts of doing the videos ~Claire
How mant Eltons can you get in the boot of a MK1 Escort???? Well at least one! Handy thing to remember Claire.
Im very impressed you didn't scratch it getting it on the truck 😂
Love you too 😂😂, you have eltons life sometimes 😂😂, but all good fun 🎉, surprised you got it on the truck, have a great weekend take care and have fun

Great video Clare & Elton, she looks in tough shape, probably bit late for saving? Enjoyed watching 👍🏼
Straight for an MOT with this one 🤭
What is happening with the two MGB GTs? They look kinda complete!
Good work with the Escort - that’ll be a brave resto project! 👍
Definitely a genuine 1300 sport
never mind the escort, i spot a renualt 4 and an SD1 .......

There is an online VIN decoder, I’d also ask in the AVO club
still enough original rust left to restore it back to it's former glory

No,only some
its only the brambles that are stopping the front from segregating from the body
😂😂 more than likely!!
The glass might be useful, the rest of it however.
My first car was a 1300 sport.
Cars and Coffee fast Ford replica with stretched on low profiles and blue engine rubber hoses in the making. Parts car.
It'll be ok, it's MOT exempt 🙂
Mk1 escort fans are insane 😂 I've seen bugatti's in better nick that " are beyond saving " fair play though
A little weekend work needed eh ?
You could say that 😂
😂😂 are you brave enough Ray? ~Claire
Could have taken the vin plate off and put it on another shell?
Should of left it there it will be 90% pattern parts when it is restored
Quick polish, should be good as new
Chassis and firewall damaged at front.
Sorry, but I think this one should’ve gone to the scrappers
Did elton get the boot😂
What are all of them white lines in the sky?
Just vapour trails, nothing sinister- probably main flight path for airliners.
If it was a Mexico it would be worth saving but a 1300 sport??!! Forget it.
As classic cars go mk 1 and 2 escorts are not rare they are common as muck.
The Log book & Body Tag the only real value, Clone another bodyshell. only reason that someone will want it for.. Rest of it scrap.
