In the lounge at my workplace we had a chess set and a go set; the chess set disappeared so sometimes when we wanted to play chess we would try playing with go pieces!
During the game I thought I was doing okay following what was happening. Then when the pieces were revealed I realized I got a lot more wrong than I'd thought
I'm a 1900 rated player and blindfold isn't too terrible. I have also played 2 at a time blindfold without too much trouble, but both opponents were under 1000 elo so your results may vary. It's fun! Try it out!
"Who would be winning if this were go?" @ 2:53 probably you get the sequence Bb4 e5 c5 f5 g4 g5 g6 h4 h3 g2 h4 f4 h6 a4 a5 a3 b3 and white has 28 points, black has 36 points*, so B+8 *for go players: these are Japanese "points" with Chinese style area counting, i.e. this is B+4子 with no komi
As a go player: If there is no Komi and black to move at 2:46 then black is winning. With Komi it depends on how much Komi white gets. Though playing on an 8x8 board and on the fields instead of the intersections does feel weird/wrong. If you ever feel like taking a look at Go again feel free to PM me. I do remember you trying it out on stream like 1-3 years ago with another beginner and both of you had trouble with the rules. If you get a bit of a more advanced player (single digit kyu or maybe even dan) you might get to know a bit more about some basic concepts as well.
Opponent almost flagging while setting up the O-O-O mate made Eric the most anxious I've ever seen him on stream :)
the legendary Queen Side Castles for Checkmate in a real game, while playing without piece identity
The fact that O-O-O was the notation of the mate in this circle game is too good.
A well-rounded game by Eric
Wow. This comment sent me for a loop.
Except at the end when he delayed the castle just to get the funny checkmate. Bit of a circle jerk, but fun to watch.
I see what you dood there
I like it when Eric plays these funky game modes. Kinda reminds me of just how good he is at the real thing.
He’s not that good else he’d be a GM
@@damonashton6630Oh come on! IM is pretty good!😂😂
@@lihapullahevonen no I’m sorry but it’s not enough
Me too the magic chess era was great
@@damonashton6630what's your point? It's as if you're saying that GMs are the only people who are good at chess
The perfect mate in circle chess is noted as circle-circle-circle (0-0-0)
0-0-0#
“I have circle takes circle. And then I use my other circle to attack this circle.” - Now this is a savage quacktic for the untrained listener.
4:31 Oh no! Someone, call a circumference!
You mean someone call Sir Cumference!
Call a circumcision (but not for me)
@@seheytit’s rabbi time.
gives new meaning to O-O-O
Eric was having a ball with this.
I lost it at "Oh no, my circle" xD
Wow, didn’t know this mode existed. Sounds perfect for me since full blindfold is too much concentration and effort for me
May I ask what your elo is? I would like to get an idea at what point one is supposed to get into this stuff.
@@markphilipp224 I don’t have official rating but I’m close to 2000 on Lichess.
@@markphilipp224 Whether you should get into blindfold stuff depends more on memory, board vision and direct calculation skills than just rating.
@@markphilipp224 Hard to say, but pretty much all IMs can play blindfolded chess.
I got lost after a while, but I still found it useful and fun, especially with Eric’s occasional arrows.
This reminds me of that one Magnus Carlson video where he had to name the game from the position where pieces were just discs
In the lounge at my workplace we had a chess set and a go set; the chess set disappeared so sometimes when we wanted to play chess we would try playing with go pieces!
Ever try playing go with chess pieces?
During the game I thought I was doing okay following what was happening. Then when the pieces were revealed I realized I got a lot more wrong than I'd thought
Checkermate
hello. i love you!
🎉🎉🎉
Someone call a radiusologist.
I so much enjoyed this video more than most. This was so awesome that I could follow.
Just opened a Lichess account and I'm playing now! So cool 😎
I was following most of the game! What an epic long castle checkmate 🎉
Same
I am glad I was actually able to follow this game. I wonder how much harder blindfold chess is...

Cool! I might! @@TaylorWeston
"Oh no my circle! Someone call a protractor" 😂😂
A castle mate is a beautiful thing
Was waiting for the double jumps lol. Thanks as always Eric.
When I play this myself I can keep track but watching someone else I get lost so quickly haha
What would you do if you reached an endgame position where you had to triangulate?
Beautiful castle mate!!!
I would say it’s a well thought out game, but it seems Eric was relying on some circular reasoning here
I got a trifle bit lost, but I saw the castle mate a few moves out. Well done.
I lost track at the end knowing which was the knight and the queen but it was really fun watching
Reminds me of Reversi (aka Othello). It's kind of fun to scroll to the middle game and try to figure out what circle is what piece.
That circle was aan absolute beast!
Circle castle mate, glorious.

Even Erics eyes are circles!
👀
That was brilliant, doing an Ed Lasker mate!
Imagine the stream sniper facing this.
2:50 Go is so different that black is winning by several points.

James Acaster would love this. "My eyes are circles?"
Loved this, I am.a newb and have been really studying the London, so I was able to follow pretty well. Great practice.
This is like the Stratego game
I was lost before you even moved a piece.
Missed the chance to say “circle gets the square”
It would've been cool to have a normal board added to the left of the checkers on postprod
such a satisfying ending
I thought you lost your queen when all that exchanging happened
Wow I was actually able to visualise every position. Didn't know I could do that.
Someone call a piggybank, because I’m cashing out on this position
Lost track after the first 6 moves. 😆
What if both sides were the same color?
Sounds like it's time for another Go stream :)
I said protractor and compass too! Great minds!
I play the London, so this was enjoyable.
I’m super proud of myself! I was able to keep track of what was happening the whole time. There were only one or two pieces I got wrong
⚪️⚪️⚫️ mate!
I believe you could take the knight on f8 and then capture on f6 but anyway nice game!
Aren’t the go stones on the intersections and not the squares?
Want to see you try the crazyhouse arena sometime
Wow Checkers got a lot more complicated since the last time I saw it
Yes, looks just like a knight!
02:42 bro really? "nice position"
😂 Its very tough for dumb like me
We need another round of duck chess xD
2:57 black would be winning in Go
If it's black to move and no Komi.
I got lost pretty much right away.
Like it? This is the kind of free entertainment I happily pay for!
0:12 “good luck to my opponent” 😭
That's called checkers
Why not bxf8 then e5 instead of the immediate e5. That just won a piece
The opponent could play dxe4, attacking our queen and not allowing us to play e5
Oh no my Othello!
You should play Lines Of Action.
that was good - thx
goat chess youtuber ❤
now play chess960 but in circle mode 😱
You should play Go eric :D i would love that
shoulda played Oo0 on move 0
Happy to say I followed what was going on. Yay me.
All these squares make a circle, all the squares make a circle...
-Mr. Popo
Eric, so far it’s not o difficult, me, you’re less than 2 min in and I already lost whats what 😅
It looks like othello.
this is fun
Call a geometrist... But not for me
Anyone else lost after move 5?
O-O-O#
I have played like this millions of time in Lichess.
I was at the stream!❤
a
REALLY???
You have dropped down as a person I want to follow.
Damn you must really hate circles
Why?
