I’m sure many have already said this, but yes, Vangelis was already using the CS-80 when he recorded The Friends of Mr. Cairo. And they didn’t spend two years working on the album. They always worked fast, completing a song in a matter of hours. I’m not hearing anything modular on the album. What sounds do people think are modular? All I hear are the usual instruments he was using during that period. I know he experimented a bit with modular in the 70s, but it’s never been a significant part of his workflow. That’s why it’s interesting and kind of exciting to see modular gear in his current setup.
I have the Aerophone AE-30 because my sax playing is less incompetent than my keyboard skills! Great fun using it to control my Behringer Neutron with CV. My #jamuary upload shows it in action. PS: you can also choose clarinet, recorder, brass, etc. fingering. PPS: you can do chords.
I wish they made a Trumpet option. For some reason both Roland and Akai choose to stick to a Saxophone or flute like form. Is it really a good reason for this with today’s midi? Harder to track perhaps.. shouldn’t be too hard to solve in the software.
@@jm6734 they do have a trumpet fingering option but it's a bit complex because although the right hand is familiar, left hand fingering has to control the switching between registers.
According to Wikipedia Vangelis was a Simmons user, and the sounds on State of Independence sounds just like the first Simmons module doesn't it? Could of course also be clever patching on a modular. The song was released 1981 and Simmons made SDS in 1978 already.
Excellent show as always! Really intrigued by electric wind instruments, can't play a standard wind instrument but my other half is a grade eight flautist and I would love to get her on a MIDI flute which could control my synths. :D
Great point on that $30 price point, Gaz. Great gig if your business can afford it (plugin boutique, waves, soundtoys promos etc. I've bought shedloads of discounted and cheap downloads that I'll rarely, if ever, use!. So good to hear that the Spitfire Frozen Strings pack received a favourable review. That said, when you get a bargain - you get a bargain. I'm thinking of these bargains that I've picked up on sale - Sound Toys Little Plate and Microshift ($5 each), Waves CLA classic compressors and Vocal Rider ($29 each). Going "cheap" from the outset is a bold move - as I'm sure the Spitfire library was pricey to produce.
I would love Vangelis to step away from the orchestral stuff and produce a successor to Spiral, Albedo 0.39, and China. Not to go back in time (when I want to listen to 70s music I put on a 70s album!) but like JMJ be looking forward even when acknowledging the past.
Still waiting for someone to make a proper CV/gate wind controller with finger sensors that would work like open finger holes, so one could do glides like on any ethnic wind instrument. We have Akai, Yamaha, Roland and Sylphio, but none of them do what I want :(
Casio have been using AiX Sound Source on their keyboards since about 2018 on their CT-X range of arranger keyboards and included it on their recent CT-S1 portable keyboard. The AiX sound source is good at reproducing authentic sounding acoustic instruments. If I'm honest I hope they bring something to the market which is as popular as their Phase Distortion synths were in the 80s. I bought the CT-X3000 at Xmas because there are some nice synth sounds on it, it's not the most intuitive of keyboards to use, and was only £250. Knowing Casio whatever it is, it will be very affordable.
Time machine + ilok licenses should do the work? Although, I prefer clean installation when getting a new computer, to get rid of old junk. I also have all large sample libraries and sounds logically stored on external SSDs so all of that never needs a new installation.
Hosting OS X is almost non existent in the cloud. Windows & Linux fill you boots. Using a container tool you can create an environment and then deploy as needed. If you have the cash aws and azure support native VMware that allows you to move workloads to and from the cloud. Regarding costs Father Christmas does not live in the cloud. It does become more expensive than on prem hardware over 5 years. So if you like to keep systems for along time then get into the habit of tearing down and rebuilding using the latest deals to keep costs down. Oh and switch cloud resources off when you not using them. We had a BU register a cloud bill for 10Ks/ month because of non curated storage!!
Really bad activation system from spitfire. Purchased frozen strings on my iPad and it’s not visible on my Mac with the same login credentials. In fact spitfire didn’t recognise my login on Mac at all, wtf…
The whole future predictions thing sounds like an advert for the Economic Forum. You will ‘own nothing and be happy’ Orwellen nightmare anyone..Turn off you mind and let AI do for you.
Gentlemen: You did the Aerophone a disservice by focusing on its appearance. You miss the point of what this updated instrument has to offer. Best to stick with square box form factor for your talks.
@Yoad Nevo: Please consider «going to town» with those sweet ol' Waldorf classics in your studio. Sample library - €29 -instabuy with sugar on top! 😊

So happy Yoad mentioned that Jon & Vangelis album, I’ll find my way home is the perfect modern day Hymn.

If Elektron ever comes out with a new flagship you should get stimming on the pod to talk about it

Thanks for the info about Vangelis!
Friends of Mr Cairo 1981 - I thought it was late 70s as well.

The Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra plugin I got for free a little while ago is just wonderful. :)
@@Claidheambmor I agree Spitfire's BBC Orchestra plugin is amazing (and free😊)

You should get prince charles on the show\
New Casio sounds a bit like a hardware Yamaha Vocaloid? Given their strong Japanese heritage and all that..

Is yoad on a green screen? His edges are fuzzy.
He actually lives in a shed. :D
I'm just an edgy-fuzzy kind of guy... ;)

Concerning the Casio : they talk about something "they don't know"... #sterile

Actually, I think I was complimentary about it's functions, and we all recognised how expressive they are
