This was such a big club song in LA during the 80's, places like Florentine Gardens, Circus, The Palace, Mr J's out in Montebello...you'd have 500, sometimes 1000 kids dancing to this all crowded onto the dance floor. Such a wild time. No fights, no guns shots. Just a cool time, everyone trying to hookup. Great memories.
i'm old as shit -- 54. so i remember when this came out. i was 13. and i danced my ass off in my room. "turn that down!" was all i heard over the music when mom was home.
I think it's because the music wasn't compressed to death back then. Until the beginning of the 90s there was still a natural dynamic range, which then fell victim to the loudness war in the early 90s. Unfortunately, these quiet AND loud passages, finely separated, can hardly be found in current pop music anymore. That's why young people also like music from the 70s and 80s. It's the dynamic range...not the length of the song. “Touched by the hand of god” & “Confusion” by New Order also have a good dynamic range.
@@spruce381 Compression is good for convenience like putting thousands of tracks in a portable audio player or on a computer but they lose important sound parts in the process. Most people can't hear the nuances lost but the trained audiophiles ear can . But if you want a file to carry around without losing the sound quality of the original then putting it into a flac format is very good it keeps the original sound . But flac is still a compressed format if you want the purest form of uncompressed sound just like the original then the .wav file is the best .
Actually Kraftwerk were the granddady of techno way before these guys in the 70's . Kraftwerk were the pioneers of electronic music which later became synth-pop , house, club , techno etc .
@@BR81-iv6lt Um ,yes ,Giorgio Moroder was also a pioneer in electronic music ,a master but Kraftwerk came before him. " I Feel Love " was a masterpiece song relesed in 1977, I still listen to it even today it's timeless.
Regret by New Order, next please. IMO, their Best Song. Once you hear the Guitar Riff, it's all over. "I would like a place I could call my own Have a conversation on the telephone Wake up every day that would be a start I would not complain of my wounded heart" That chorus will stay with you forever.
check out A split Second by Rigor Mortis , yazoo don't go, Join in the Chant by nitzer ebb, Never let me down again by Depeche Mode, all from the same time late 80`s
One of the greatest bands ever with a huge catalogue of hits. Try "PERFECT KISS" or "CRYSTAL" great songs - by a band that lead singer cant sing and the lead guitar is replaced by the legendary bass playing of Hook.
Fact: this song was quite an accident. They just wanted a song to let playing while they left the stage after the concerts. And then this happened, the best best selling 12" of history, a song that defines the 80s and an iconic cover art (looking as a floppy disk, no band name, no title and with a colour code hiding the info). The original is from 1983, this is a second version from 1988.
Oh man, danced to this so much back in '83 onwards... If you like this, you'll love Power, Corruption & Lies; the album from the same time. Especially, I suspect, The Village and 586.
May i suggest that after this banger, you should react to Genius Of Love by Tom Tom Club from 1981. It's probably one of the most sampled songs of all time, especially in the hip-hop, rap and r&b genres. It's most well-known sample is probably from Mariah Carey''s No.1 hit, Fantasy from 1995.
Yeah, short music is NOT what we need. the 3 minute idea is from the MONEY MEN, never from creatives. Right now, the money men are back in charge. Lets treat ourselves to some more wonder, not just short sharp shocks!! And Blue Monday was a rebel song to another era of money men short music. Well noticed. Great channel by the way.
Well the very beginning was annoying but it grooved a little. 3:42 in the morning!! Maybe I'll plug my V into the Marshall and add some noise! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🤟🏼🎸
In the 80s you could buy 12 inch singles that had different longer versions of the hit single .... see if uou can find some of the longer versions of Blue Monday
Saw New Order a few times n cabaret style club events, cool vibe, very chilled ... sorry i never got to see Joy Division though .... that is one band i would love to go back in time to see
This song never gets old.
The clubs used to BANG this tune so hard! Got to see New Order live for their SUPERNATURE tour. It was outstanding and the props wow!!
And in the beginning there was New Order "Blue Monday" funnily enough when I first heard this in 1983 I was 18 & my words were "wow" to!
Oh man, this transports me back to the club when I was young. Great tune!

Florentine Gardens was bomb back in the day.
This is the biggest selling 12 inch single of all time. More New Order please , my vote would be "Temptation"
I would vote for "Confusion". Especially the video version with the NYC pizza girl at Fun House. Captures early 80's in NYC.
"New Wave" love the 80's sound.
Blue Monday is the Bohemian Rhapsody of electronic music.

Truth - compression isn’t good - still love valve amps, 808s, and an acoustic mixing deck.
Ah yes confusion a great track.. There's a freestyle remix which is great..
Because people were more intelligent, creative and had soul.

Tune. When you get the chance, maybe you could check out Depeche Mode ‘Enjoy The Silence’
yes, live in Berlin
They were there when techno started. They are the granddaddy of techno.
They were guitar based as Joy Division and New Order were years behind Kraftwerk and didn't form until 1980.🏴

This song has been released about 3 times, on the original one, this song was called, The Beach.
You should see the mini-doc of how this song came about. Fascinating stuff!
You need to blast this in the car with the bass turned up... maybe not now but it was cool in the early 90s..😂😂😂

Great suggestions!
This song changed English 🎵🎶 back in the day!!!!🏴
After Ian died joy division morphed into new order.
I think "True Faith" is their best one.
The band Orgy did a great late 90s-early 2000's rock cover of this song, in my opinion.
Depeche Mode "NEVER LET ME DOWN" Live in Barcelona 2009.
And in the beginning was “ Tomorrow never knows”. Try it..
Nitro deluxe started dance music for England in the 80's.....the goldmine in Essex then onto London
The 12" vinyl of this used to have me needing oxygen by the end,was a long track! 😊
I think that was like 14 min. long !
@gregorygant4242 think you're right, but always got on the floor anyway!
@@BORDERSALAN Yeah insanely long I wouldn't be able to dance that long I'd be out of breath by then .
Played at discos when I was 15. Discovered Joy Division later.
Love your reactions

Top selling 12inch single in history at one time and maybe still is.
Yes, still is. The track has been rereleased/remastered/reissued 217 times in every format available.

Kraftwerk with The Robots may be a good follow-up if you want to dig deeper into the roots of this kind of music
🔥🔥1980s 🔥 🔥

Well ,this is not the Blue Monday by Fats Domino l remember as a kid, reminds me of Kraftwerks , Numbers, it's pretty trippy.
Human League - Love Action, is your next song.
Thanks!
Welcome!
I hate 80's synth pop, but New Order is fantastic.
Nice. I feel the exact same way.
Do voodoo ray, by, A guy called Gerald next.
