Hi, I’m Kitty. (Yep, real name.) I was born and raised in Minnesota and currently live in Minneapolis with my husband, Joel, and our cat, June. Joel and I just got married this past February and a few months before that we bought our first home! It's a fixer upper and we've been working most weekends fixing up the place! Our place is coming along slowly and I love documenting the progress on my UA-cam channel. I'm also a happy vegan and love sharing easy vegan recipes with you guys! I think its awesome and smart that you didn't just demolish the whole kitchen. It looks beautiful. And because you were really smart you could splurge where it matters which is the appliances.
mickey M I agree! I just love when people work with what they already have and are smart with kitchen remodeling. Complete demolition seems so wasteful to me.
Sometimes it's necessary though. We are in the middle of our own kitchen renovation and before any other kitchen would fit the walls needed to be completely straightened and everything. The floor had shifted so much in this place that the bench had a literal crack where it was a full inch or so lower than the rest of the bench. People who have a good foundation and can simply paint and change a few key features are very lucky.

This is amazing. We are buying a 1950s house with a kitchen that is so similar in many ways and this is such a inspiration! We also want to rip up the old yellow linoleum floor and install hardwoods to match the rest of the house and paint the cabinets. I love the mixed metals, the vintage touches, and your awesome diy island 😍 SO well done!

Kitty, this kitchen is amazing! Def Pinterest vibes, but not too "trendy", it feels very classic. I really like the touches of red with the rug and spoon rest. It's all just so lovely!

The before looks like my kitchen. My family & I wanted to remodel it since we moved in but my mom wanted a bigger kitchen since we have little storage. In the end that is a lot more expensive so we haven't done anything.
Anyway, Amazing kitchen! What a complete difference.

We desperately need a re-do We are lucky enough to have solid maple cupboards that we will paint but the rest is not salvageable, its got to go lol. I love your transformation, keeping it simple and clean lines is inspiring.

This is my dream kitchen design!
I saved a picture from Houzz a few weeks ago with the same style rug and dark bottom cupboards with white upper cupboards. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to do exact (thanks budget) and now I know I will be able to knock it out of the park. The hardest park for me is lighting. I do not know what I want! I was thinking a nice, big chandelier or an industrial chic light. So many choices! I hate returning things. I have a few weeks until we close on our house. I'll figure it out once I stare at the ugly fixture for a few weeks when we finally move in! :D

I just love your kitchen! I keep meaning to say, your original kitchen floor had layers and layers of wax built up on it, that's why it was yellow. In the 40's-50's, the type of wax they used did that, and most housewives were religious in their waxing, so oddly enough, the more cleaned and waxed a floor was, the more yellow and yucky it came to look 😉
Augh those paint colors are exactly what I'm planning for my own kitchen reno! So glad to see it in an IRL kitchen and not just a pinterest pin. Are your cabinets wood? Mine are that weird plywood + laminate so the paint might look different.

Wow, amazing! I love everything about your kitchen. Hardwood is def a great choice! We had tile (hardwood everywhere else in the house) and it's soooooo dipping cold, I hate it.
That was our biggest hesitation to going with tile! Minnesota is already cold enough!

Love the new kitchen- I am remodeling now and what scares me the most is and end result I don’t love- how did you decide to do darker bottom cabinets? I would have done all white but I love how the contrast plays out. Could you tell me what brand is your fridge?
Good work, very nice kitchen! Serious question though: how do you run cold water? I'm wanting to have my tap set up the same way, but am thinking that I'll have to shorten the handle so that it doesn't hit the wall when I want to run it cold 😅🙈 did you have another practical solution?

amazing transformation! i love the faucet n island table. random question, where do you put the water n food bowls (and sandbox) for your cat? i have 2 cats and a dog so the cat bowls are always taking up space on my (already tiny) counter top. cheers :)
