Reminds me of my time at an amazon warehouse. They had a projector that would highlight slots on the shelves for various things. IF you were picking items, where the item was. If you were storing items, open spots, etc.
This is a fantastic implementation of a very complex system, but done for the hobbyist level. Any factory that has pickers is going to have a similar system, but for companies that haven't scaled to that level yet, and probably never will, you've provided a fantastic solution for their teams. Bravo.
I saw this on Reddit. Ingenious. I might add an "I'm feeling lucky" button that selects a random microcontroller if there's like 6 of them with similar specs. Dude, imagine making a smartphone app that scans a QR code or AprilTag on the drawer, tap tap tap, bang, inventory for that drawer updated. Hey, you bought the same LED strips I use in my job. You only get a meter of the high density 144/m stuff, but the 60/meter reels are 5 meters long. So that's 300 LEDs vs. 144, and the 5 meter reels cost less per LED. But if you need less than 144 for this project, a meter will be fine. The one thing I don't like about the 144/m strip is that cutting the pads in half increases the odds of shorting a data line to ground during soldering. BTF also sells "LED chips" with the same 5050 NeoPixel LEDs, but in a snappable PCB form which might work really well here (~10mm diameter circle).
I just downloaded the code and tried it, I thought, this must be so complicated, lets have a look at the code.... It is such a beautiful thing, it brought a tear to my eye. Thank you so much. this has so much potential. Well done team!!!!!
This is so cool! Your channel is amazing, so glad I stumbled across your reddit comment. A couple of ideas for things you can add (I know nothing about automations so I dont know how hard to do): - sensors to tell when a draw is open. Then instead of having to type the position when adding a new item (having to manually count), it'd autofill it - similarly when a draw is already filled, opening it can focus on the entry in the UI so you can edit it, in case you move things around - instead of having to fill the link, name and photo, you could probably scrape/autofill the image/item name from the Amazon link
I'm the purely computer type and as such don't have many parts drawers, but this is an awesome project! Makes me half tempted to buy a bunch of components just to have something to put in one of these.
@@Mellow_labs you’re definitely improving! And your ideas are great, and new - no one else has done these type of projects that I’ve seen! Definitely heading over to Patreon! And everyone else should too.
Hey I saw you're having some problems, I'm working on getting the documentation together today. The problem you're having is with the WLED IP addresses, You need to change them for whatever yours are. And I also had to change. The way you pretend position, To support multiple Wled Nodes.
Such an amazing video, like actually so usefull, I will be using this in my shop and once I get more disposable income I will be supporting you on patreon.
Well went out today and bought me one of these storage things, cause I wanted to anyways since a few month but now with this I had to, and will build it myself soonish 👀😅
Well first I need to figure out all the coding stuff since I have no idea of all of it but always wanted to start learning it that’s why I love your channel btw. I know you got everything opened source but I have no idea from the point on after downloading all code. I have to figure out how to put it in visual studio or how to get to this clean looking website/user interface thingy 😅
This is awesome, I wanted to make a general inventory app for my house and think that maybe I could integrate some of these ideas (if I ever get around to it 😅). Thanks for the inspiration!
I have to say: really nice video. I have just a 3X5 organizer but now i know a cool new project for the future. I am also familiar with lots of python libs, so when i saw flask my eyes opened more :D Quick info: if you want, you could integrate it with google home ad saying like "hey google, find the leds" and incorporating it.
Hey, love this! Do you have a link to the small transparent boxes that you have used? I assume they're not printed? Thinking of maybe buying some transparent PETG to print the small draws in...
imagine you have a pick and place machine combine with this system. Then you can just type in the stuff you want, the robot give you the stuff. Or you throw bunch of part, the pick and place machine return the part to the correct container. Effectively a smart container that auto organize your stuff. Which solve a very similar problem in amazon warehouse, for sort and transporting goods between supplier and customer. Although base on their white paper, it turns out because the high amount of item throughput, it's faster to not organize and sort item and just place them randomly. Then when shipping the item out of the warehouse, the robot will remember where it place the item and pick it up and give to the package worker.
Great project, been soldering for the the last couple of hours :) but now is my problem that i did not see comming, my rack has 30 small drawers 5 rows of 6 and then 3 rows of 3 double the size of the small drawers... how i goods name do i configure that in the program ??
I’m afraid I have bad news, there is no way of configuring that in the program. I did it by just having Ethan amount of LEDs all over the back of the drawers.
Mellow_Labs you are a genius bro. So far I been playing around with the web page adding items to list and it is awesome. I do have just one question about the WLED integrations. What do I have to do to set this part, because i don't see anything changing within WLED app. TIA for everything you are doing for this.
Have you added the IP of the W LEDs to the wled_api.py? wled_api.py wled_api.py? If I knew it was going to be this popular I would have delayed it to Polish off the web page
@@Mellow_labs lol, that i didn't do and funny part i seen it and over looked it. Thanks bro and tbh i like the web page. It's straight forward and easy to use even for a noob like myself.
